5、Sometimes a little self-criticism (自我批评) is not a bad thing. We can learn much from our mistakes. However, too much of it may result in health problems. When self-criticism becomes too much, it can turn into negative self-talk. Negative self-talk is that little voice in your head. It says you are not good enough.
Dr. Hugh, a scientist said that some good students who study hard usually do not do well in a test because of negative self-talk.
Lindsay was one of Hugh's best students. She came to class early, took part in discussions and did all her homework. However, she did poorly in exams. When Hugh asked her how she felt before a test, she told him she was very nervous. She was not sure that she knew the right answers. This is an example of negative self-talk. Dr. Hugh turned Lindsay's negative self-talk into positive (积极的) questions. During a test, he told Lindsay to say to herself: Why do I remember everything I study for an exam? ★ ?
Lindsay took his advice. Two weeks later, she took an exam in another class and scored 15 points higher than she had on an earlier exam. Four weeks later, she earned an "A" on the final exam in Hugh's class.
Dr. Hugh saw students work out fine with his method. And he does not just help his students. He also advises his friends and neighbors to give up negative self-talk in their life. He once said, "We can program ourselves for success in class or in life, or we can program ourselves for failure."

6、The 16th Chinese Bridge—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students was held from Oct.16 to Oct.30, 2023 in Beijing and Yunnan. Danil Pyshnyi, from Russia, won the global championship. Language learning builds the understanding of all over the world.
The 18-year-old began learning Chinese at the age of 10. "My interest in the Chinese language began with the desire (渴望) to learn more about a world of characters so different from my own," Pyshnyi said in Chinese. That's why he came to China to learn Chinese 4 years ago.
Learning about the meanings of the strokes (笔画) of the Chinese characters is like solving puzzles for Pyshnyi. "Take the character ‘fu' (福) for example. Each stroke holds a hidden story," Pyshnyi said. The horizontal (横的) stroke of this character means peace in Chinese culture, while the dot (点) is about fulfillment (满足). "As I studied the character ‘fu', I began to learn the symbolism (象征意义) in it and it was an amazing experience," said Pyshnyi.
Learning Chinese isn't just about learning words for Pyshnyi, but about a deep look into Chinese traditions and life that continue over thousands of years. For example, with Chinese ancient poems, he takes a look at the romanticism (浪漫主义), creativity, and imagination of the Chinese people.
Pyshnyi said his favourite Chinese poem was The Magpie Bridge Rendezvous (《鹊桥仙·纤云弄巧》)". "It tells the story of the Cowherd (牛郎) and the Weaver Girl (织女) and I see the Chinese people's ability to put imaginative and touching stories into their poems."

China and Western countries have something different in cultures about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs, we have the same idea—pigs are ugly (丑陋的), lazy and stupid.
Just look at some Chinese sayings such as "Boiling a dead pig." and "A pig looking in the mirror is still a pig." And in English, there are some sayings like "Eating like a pig." and "Pigs might fly." None of them are complimentary.
However, pigs have some good qualities (品质). They are even as smart as dogs and elephants. They have good memories. And they know whether people treat them well or not.
A UK cartoon, Peppa Pig is a most popular cartoon. The four members in the pig family teach children from all around the world about love, friendship and the value of family, And a Chinese cartoon film, the Adventures of Mcdull, is also very famous. In the cartoon, the little pig, Medull, has a heart of gold and always works hard for his dreams. Most people want quick success, but Mcdull is slow and patient, and not afraid of failing again and again.
Maybe when we talk about pigs next time, we should think of their good qualities.
