West County Mandarin School was started by Eric Peterson in 2017. To get its  group of students, Peterson personally introduced the school to parents with children at a local shopping center. Because of  efforts(努力), the number of students has climbed to 530 this year. "We' ve seen a growing interest in learning Chinese. More students are expected next fall. We plan to offer two more classes," says Peterson.

To provide students with cultural experiences, Peterson began organizing(组织) trips to China in 2018.He has just returned from taking 50 students on a cultural tour around Beijing. During their visit last month, the students enjoyed  while living with the local Chinese students and their families."The Chinese families are really nice and they treated  so well," some students said.

"These experiences open the students' eyes to modern China's rapid development. And parents find these experiences  for their children's future development. We've worked to keep costs manageable so that more families can afford such journeys," says Peterson."We' re already planning another for this summer."

During a pottery(陶艺) class, the teacher showed us how to make a clay(黏土) flower. Then the teacher asked 1 to have a try. I noticed Adam was still playing with his clay. I told him to follow the teacher's in-structions. Adam looked at 2 without saying a word. I worried that he wouldn't have enough time to finish the work, so I made another flower which was totally different from 3 and let him use it."Do you always tell everyone what to do?" Adam shouted. After hearing this, I realized I had done something wrong.

Later, I reflected on my actions. I shouldn't ignore(忽视) how others feel. Everyone needs space to express 4 . I learned true friendship means respecting their choices, not forcing my ideas on them. I'll ask before helping 5 , because everyone has their own way to solve problems.

尊重与坚持，终见光芒

Jia once loved surfing(冲浪)， but she stopped after losing her father. Several days ago,1 friend Mary encouraged her to try out for the team. Jia agreed.
