Christmas Day is a very important festival in the USA, Canada, Australia, Britain and many other Western countries.  The day before the festival, people put a tree in their house and in the tree, there are colourful lights and many presents for the family members.  People often have a party around the tree and they have a very good time.  

The most important festival in China is the Spring Festival.  People usually have 7 days off.  Family members get together.  They eat and chat a lot.  There are also lots of wonderful TV programmes (节目) for the festival.  The Mid-Autumn Festival is an important festival too.  On the evening of the festival, people eat moon cakes and look at the beautiful moon in the open air.  Another important festival is the Dragon Boat Festival.  People eat a kind of Chinese food called zongzi(rice dumplings) on that day.  In some places, people can watch the dragon boat races.  

Thanksgiving Day is a special festival for Americans to thank God (上帝).  They eat pumpkins and turkey (火鸡肉) on the day.  

Many countries have their National Days.  Most of them are not on the same day.

Some Festivals Around the World

The 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar (阴历) in China is the Lantern Festival.  It's 1 important festival in China.  Chinese people celebrate it in many ways.  In the evening there 2 some lantern shows in parks and streets.  Lanterns are often red 3 the Chinese think red stands for happiness and good luck.  People 4 different lanterns out of paper and other things.  Some are in the 5 of rabbits, birds and boats.  Some are in the shapes of trees and cartoon stars.  There are 6 lanterns here and there.  In some cities, such as Lianyungang, there is usually a big lantern show 7 night.  

 8 are the special food for the festival.  Families always 9 and enjoy a happy meal.  After that, people go out to 10 .  Sometimes they sing and dance happily until midnight. 

There are many traditional festivals (传统节日) in our country.  The Qingming Festival is on April 4th in 2024.  On Qingming Festival, the most important activity (最重要的活动) is tomb sweeping (扫墓).  It is also time for a spring outing (踏青) because trees turn green and flowers blossom in spring.  We usually go on a picnic, climb mountains and fly kites.  The Spring Festival is on February 10th in 2024.  We usually have a big dinner, eat jiaozi and watch Spring Festival Gala (春节联欢晚会).  We are very happy.  The Dragon Boat Festival is on June 10th in 2024.  We often eat zongzi and watch dragon boat races.  Mid-Autumn Festival is on September 17th in 2024.  We usually enjoy the moon, eat mooncakes and tell stories about Chang'e. 

My name's Joy.  I'm a girl from England.  I love festivals and there are many festivals in my country.  

Easter is always in March or April.  We usually eat chocolate eggs at Easter.  They are sweet.  I don't like sweet food so I don't think this festival is interesting.  

I like Halloween much better than Easter.  It's on the last day of October.  Children wear costumes and play "trick or treat".  We also make a pumpkin lantern (灯).  We have a lot of fun on that day.  I think it is the funniest festival.  

The most important festival in the west is Christmas.  It is on 25th December.  We all have a big dinner together and we eat turkey.  It's the most popular food at Christmas.  And the most exciting thing is getting a lot of presents from my family and friends.  Christmas is my favourite festival.
