It was cold last Friday. My brother Gregory and I watched the white through the window. We did it together for more than five years. It was quite funny. Mom some coffee and chocolate for us. They tasted delicious. We liked very much. Mom also made vegetable soup for us because it could help keep us . 

Gregory and I went outside earlySaturday morning. It was cold outside，so we wore our coats，thick socks and shoes. Then we could the afternoon making our first snowman of the year. It took us two and a half hours to make the snowman. Mr Bowman，our neighbour，gave us an old black hat we thanked him a lot. We put it on the snowman. We tried to make the snowman . At last，Mom took some of us with the snowman. it was very cold，we all had great fun. I hoped the snowman could live a happy life like us. 

Today，many young people enjoy a new way of traveling called"special forces travel"（特种兵式旅游）. 

These"special forces"travelers love to see many beautiful places in a very short time. Zhang Mingjie was one of them. He took a two-day weekend trip to Xi'an and Beijing. He visited 8 places in Beijing in just one day. After that，he hurried back to school for morning classes on Monday. 

Zhao Chengnan took a crazy trip during the May Day holiday. She climbed five famous mountains in five days and travelled around Shanghai in 24 hours. She walked 15 kilometers a day to visit as many places as possible. 

Young people say that they want to see beautiful rivers and mountains. So they would like to take such a short trip，but they need to travel in a hurry. For them，these trips are to"go there"and take pictures. They will go to the airport or station after class，get on the train to sleep，get off the train to take photos，and eat delicious food. They feel tired but excited. 

Tom，Jim，and Ted are cousins. They study in the same school. They usually go to the countryside to visit their grandparents at weekends. 

Their grandparents have a farm. Last weekend，Tom，Jim，and Ted went to the farm to see their grandparents by bike. They assembled at Tom's home at 2：00 p. m. after lunch on Saturday and started their trip. It is a long way from Tom's home to the farm. They took a lot of food and drinks such as bread，water，eggs，bananas and so on. 

They got to their grandparents' farm after three hours. Their grandparents were happy. The next day，Tom，Jim，and Ted helped with the farm work in the morning. They fed the chickens and then they watered the vegetables. At noon，their grandmother cooked fish and many vegetables for them. She cooked well. Jim didn't like vegetables at all in the past. But now，those vegetables were so nice and he liked them a lot. In the afternoon，their grandfather helped them to fly kites. Their kites flew high. What a nice country life!They all had a wonderful weekend. 

Long long ago there was a magic mirror（镜子）. When a person looked at it，he could have the look he wanted. The mirror was very 1 and many people came to have a look at it.

 Yuan Longping is a great scientist. He was born in a poor farmer's family in 1930. He  (complete) his university studies in 1953.  that, Yuan began his teaching career at an agricultural school in Anjiang, Hunan Province. In the 1960s, there   (be) a lot of natural disasters(自然灾害) in China. Many people died because  food shortage. So he decided to learn to grow rice and came up with the idea of hybrid rice. 

Since then, he has tried his  (good) to research and develop better rice. In 1964, he found  natural hybrid rice plant that was better than others.  

In 1973, Yuan successfully developed a special type of long-grained hybrid rice. The  (introduce) of this new product made China a leader in rice production. 

Yuan didn't stop  (he) research. He led his team to conduct a  (success) experiment in planting rice in the Dubai Desert. This is the first time that rice has been grown in a desert. It helps the people  live in the desert areas produce more rice. In addition, it improves the environment of desert areas. 

Nelson Mandela (曼德拉) was the former president of South Africa. He was one of the world's greatest  . In 1993, he won the  Peace Prize. 

Mandela was  in a small village in Transkei in South Africa on 18 July, 1918. When he was 9, his father died of . He had a difficult time when he was young. He was in prison (监狱) for 27 years, because he led the anti-apartheid movement (反种族隔离运动). He was  to leave the prison in 1990. Mandela was free. Then in 1994 he became president of South Africa. 

Even in the worst  in prison, Mandela didn't  himself up. He did exercise every day, and planted many vegetables. He loved his country and devoted all his  to it. People chose him  the greatest South African in 2004. He also did a lot for the peace of the world. Mandela  away in Johannesburg last year, at the age of 95. 

Who is the old man? I believe you must know him very well without me saying anything. . Yes, he is Yuan Longping, a famous farmer and scientist. People call him the "Father of Hybrid Rice". But the farmers call him "Rice Bodhisattva(米菩萨)". Some people even think that his achievement is as important as the "Four Great Inventions" in ancient China. Someone said his name was worth more than 100 billion yuan. 

Many people think Chinese people hate the rich, . But a lot of people support Yuan Longping. More and more people hate Wang Shi who only gave out ten yuan at the Sichuan earthquake, but many speak highly of Yuan Longping. No people will hate such a great scientist. He is a real hero to the farmers. When we asked him how he felt that some people on the Internet called him "the scientist of people"， the old man said, "I am not fit for it. I am only a science worker. . " "What is your dream next？" the reporter asked. The old man said, "I want to make rice as tall as sorghum(高粱), ^,each rice as big as a peanut. I want to plant my rice in Taiwan. " . "We must keep our body, spirit, emotions healthy. We must not only have rich knowledge but also have good thoughts，" he said.
