The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature went to the South Korean writer Han Kang.  October 10th, the 53-year-old writer was awarded the prize for her"poetic prose". She is the (one) South Korean writer to win the prize. 

Han  (keep) writing since her first prose came out in the 1990s. One of her  (good) works is The Vegetarian. It tells the story of a woman's decision to stop  (eat) meat and her family's worry about her mental health.  novel was also translated into English later.

Many main characters in Han's books are women.  , readers can find lots of men's opinions, because Han thinks this kind of mix is helpful for readers to discover human nature. 

Her books are among the top 10 in popular online bookshops. " It was  (real) amazing to hear that a Korean Woman writer had won the prize, so I came here to look for her books, " said a reader. 

What did you do during National Day? I visited the Yellow Mountain, a (自然的) wonder in China. I went there by bus and there were a lot of  (乘客) on it. Maybe most of people wanted to take a holiday to relax  (自己) after their hard work. Later, at a bus stop, an old man got on the bus. He  (设法) to find a seat to sit down. A girl beside me got up quickly and picked up her big but  (空的) bag and said, "Please take this seat, Grandpa. " The old man showed his thanks and sat down. It was not  (寂静的) in the bus and not many people  (注意到) this. But I could feel the sign of warmth around us. As soon as I got to the place of interest, I could see some flowers and  (旗帜). It was simply a beautiful place. While I was climbing the mountain, I met a soldier. He told me his life stories and they really moved me. On the top of the mountain, we ate some snacks,  (包括) some fruits, fried chicken and corn. I really had great fun and learned something  (有用的) from others.

The Torch Festival has a long history. It is mainly held in areas where the Yi people live in large numbers, and it is deeply rooted in their culture. It is said that the people in ancient times used fire to drive away bad spirits and wish for a good harvest in the following year. 

Before the festival arrives, people often clean their houses carefully to welcome the Torch Festival. This means getting rid of the old and welcoming the new. During the festival, people light torches and carry them around. There are also different activities such as dancing, singing and sheep fighting. People wear their traditional clothes and enjoy delicious food. 

The Torch Festival holds great meanings. It stands for people's expectation of light, hope, and success. It is also a time for families to be together. What's more, it develops cultural exchanges and understanding in different ethnic groups（族群）。

The festival attracts the attention of people from all over the world. More people are increasingly interested in this festival. However, this also brings some worries. Efforts will be made to reduce the bad influence on the environment while keeping the traditional cultural customs.

Are you shy? If you are, you are not alone. In fact, close to 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness. They have some interesting ideas about why people are shy. 

Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists think that some shyness is genetic. 

Family size might cause people to be shy as well: Scientists at Harvard University studied shy children. They found that 66 percent of them had older brothers and sisters. The scientists said that these children were often bullied (欺侮) by their older brothers and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often play by themselves. They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families. 

You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries, they found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. What explains the difference? One scientist said the Japanese and Israeli s had different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed, they feel bad about themselves. They blame (责备) themselves for their failure. In Israel, the opposite is true. Israeli s often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends, or bad luck. In Israel, freedom of opinion and risk taking are strongly supported. This may be why Israeli s worry less about failure and are less shy. 

For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can get over your shyness. They suggest trying new things and practising conversation. And don't forget— if you are shy, you are not the only one. 

It was 10 p. m. on a Wednesday night. Fourteen-year-old Li Gong sat at his desk and stared at a blank sheet of paper. Li had to write a 600-word book report and the deadline was the next day. The problem? He hadn't read the book. Li opened an AI app on his computer and entered the words"Book report, 600 words, The Old Man and the Sea. "In less than a minute, the boy had his book report. 

Several days later, Li was called into his teacher's office. Unfortunately, his teacher was very familiar with computers and AI apps. One of the apps examined his students' writing to find cheating（作弊）. Li had been caught But his teacher was kind. Instead of punishing the boy, he explained that while AI apps were a helpful shortcut（捷径）for some things, there was no shortcut to learning. Learning how to write well has great value to understanding a subject and expressing your own ideas about it. 

An AI app depends on a collection of information that someone has uploaded onto a computer system. A specially trained algorithm (算法) processes the information to produce the type of writing someone might need. It's useful for writing business emails, legal documents and even news reports, but it's not useful for expressing your personal ideas and thoughts. 

Writing is the most difficult of all the language skills. You need to be good at grammar and have a good vocabulary. Writing also requires you to think clearly. For example, Li Gong was supposed to read Earnest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea and find out what it was about. 

It's a sad story, but what does it all mean? If Li had read the book and written the book report, he would have learned a lot and had the satisfaction of expressing his own ideas about the story. That's something AI cannot do. 

The animated film Ne Zha 2, released on January 29, 2025, has become a huge success in the film industry. Directed by the famous director Jiaozi (Yang Yu), it continues the exciting story of Ne Zha（哪吒）and Ao Bing（敖丙）from the first movie. 

After surviving a terrible disaster called the" Heavenly Tribulation（天劫）, " Ne Zha and Ao Bing lost their physical bodies. Their souls were in great danger until Taiyi Zhenren, a wise immortal from Chinese mythology, saved them using a magical seven - colored lotus. However, peace did not last long. Their souls began to disappear again, forcing Taiyi Zhenren to face a difficult task-rebuilding their bodies with limited materials while solving unexpected problems. 

The film shows remarkable character growth. Ne Zha, once known for his rebellious nature, learns to care deeply for his friends and understand his true self. His friend Ao Bing, who used to struggle with personal troubles, transforms into a brave warrior. In one powerful scene, Ao Bing deolares courageously, " If there's no path, I' ll create one!"

Visually, the movie is a feast for the eyes. It begins with thrilling scenes of flowing lava like wild rivers and terrifying sea monsters jumping out of the water, making viewers feel as if they are part of the action. Beyond the action, Ne Zha 2teaches important life lessons. It encourages people to stay brave when facing difficulties, fight for what is right, and value friendship. These themes resonate with both young and adult audiences. The film has broken box office records, earning an astonishing amount in its first week. Many people praise its perfect mix of cultural elements, exciting storytelling, and positive messages.

Third, it's important to feel safe and relaxed. When people step into new places, some may feel anxious（焦虑的）. However, in familiar places, they already know what to expect. With no worries there, they can enjoy themselves.
