When you are planning your UK studies, you might be very excited, but also a little nervous about making friends.

Don't worry, here are a few ideas to help you "break the ice" and make friends:

Many UK students live shared accommodation(住所). To get to know each other, you could suggest cooking a meal together, going out for a coffee or watching a film. Many students live with UK families in home stay accommodation, which is another great way to meet local people.

To help international students settle in, many school, colleges and universities run an international society, hosting parties, pub quizzes, and film nights. Joining is a great way to make friends with students from all around the world.

Remember, the best way to make friends is simply to be friendly. At the end of your class, why not start a conversation with the person next to you? Or in your Students' Union café, why not ask your fellow students for advice about the local area?

Would you like to try mountain climbing, chess or photography? Perhaps you're more into football, painting or dance? Taking up a new hobby is a brilliant way to make new friends who share your interest. Most UK schools run lots of sport and art groups.

    A. Join Your Students Social Groups      B. Take Up a Hobby

    C. Make Friends With Your Housemates   D. Be friendly!

Whom are the passages probably written for?

    A. Parents      B. Teachers       C. Workers       D. Students

Have you and your friends ever argued about what color this dress is? Just wait a minute before you start calling each other "colorblind". According to USA Today, "no one is wrong, no one is right", because there is real science behind why we see it differently, and having eyesight (视力)problems is not part of it.

To make it clear, the dress itself is black and blue. That is said, however, in a survey taken by a social media website Yik Yakon Feb. 26, among tens of thousands of answers, "white and gold" actually beat "black and blue" 53 percent to 47 percent, reported Forbes. Isn't that strange?

Over millions of years, human brains have developed a certain way to always be able to tell an object's true color even if the lighting conditions keep changing. Just imagine looking at your white shirt during a golden sunset or under a purple light. Its color actually changes but you just know that it's white, don't you?

This is because your brain understands how the light is influencing the color of your shirt, and so you can tell it is white.

Scientists call this "color constancy(恒定)". It helped humans continue to live in the past. "You need to know whether an apple is ripe(成熟的) to eat, whether it's sunny or gray," Stefano Soatto, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, told The Wall Street Journal.

Usually this system works just fine, but this situation made it harder. Everyone told the color of the dress after looking at one single image(样子) in which where there were no other objects except the dress itself, giving us little information about the lighting conditions.

And here is where the disagreements began. When they see the image, some brains think that the lighting in the room is very poor, so the dress must have very bright colors, like white and gold. Some, however, think the opposite: The lighting is very strong, so the dress must be in darker colors to look the way it does in the picture.

So, there is no need to question your eyesight if you see the dress as white and gold, and those who see it as blue and black should not be smug(自鸣得意的) either. This is nothing more than an optical illusion(视错觉). And no one gets serious about those, do they?

(1)、From the first three paragraphs we can learn .
A、it's normal for people to see the dress as white and gold B、those who find the dress black and gold are colorblind C、the real colors of the dress are white and gold D、more people say that the dress is black and blue
(2)、Different people see the color of the dress differently because.
A、people keep seeing the dress in different lighting conditions B、there is not enough lighting information around the dress C、the lighting in the room is too poor D、the lighting in the room is too strong
(3)、Which of the following has the similar meaning as the last sentence of the passage?
A、People should know more knowledge about the color. B、No one wants to argue with a friend about the color a lot. C、People don't need to be too serious about the optical illusion. D、People needn't be serious about their eyesight problems.
(4)、The writer wants to explain  in the passage.
A、what color this dress is B、what an optical illusion is C、how to deal with the disagreement about the color of a dress D、the reason why people tell the color of an object differently

After four months of training and rounds of internal selection(内部选拔), seven dogs passed the strict examination of the Ministry of Public Security and joined the mission during the summit, Qi said.

In order to lower the temperature, they installed electric fans and automatic spray devices in kennels and placed ice outside. In addition, they decided to shave off the hair of the northern dogs.

WuXu, a handler with another Labrador, said: "The heavy tasks and uncomfortable conditions will more or less affect the dogs' mood. As their trainers, we pay attention to their daily lives, but it is most important to communicate with them. They like being touched, and we also often talk with them."

A、installed electric fans. B、placed ice outside. C、shaved off the hair of the dogs. D、all of the above.

You can never do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.

    —Ralph Waldo Emerson

How many times have we said, "Oh, I'll do that 1." Sometimes tomorrow never 2 and we find ourselves saying, "Boy, I wish I hadn't put that off."

Our family has been friends with Betty for many years. Over the years we shared phone calls and birthday cards. Betty sent our youngest son Brandon a birthday card with $50 in it until he graduated. We 3 each other quite often when we lived not far away. Then we moved to New York. However, the distance did not cut off the touch we kept in with each other.

This past November, I called Betty to see 4 she was. I was quite 5 when Betty didn't answer the phone, instead her daughter Carol did. Carol told me that her mum had gone downhill fast and she was now in hospice (临终养老院) care. Carol 6 the phone to Betty. I talked briefly to her and let her 7 we loved her.

As soon as I got off the phone, I sent a text to Brandon to let him know Betty wasn't doing 8. Little did I know that Brandon stopped what he was doing and immediately sent flowers to Betty.

You can imagine how 9 I was of Brandon when Carol called the next day letting me know how much Betty loved the flowers Brandon had sent. A few days later, Betty passed away. So, my friends, 10 what Emerson once said, "You can never do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late."
