Laughter can reduce pain. You probably don't want to chuckle (偷笑) when you're hurt, but laughter helps the body make its own medicine. Laughing is also great exercise! Research that laughing 100 times is as good as riding a bike for 15 minutes.

So why don't you try laughing out loud every day? 

One day in a restaurant, the American writer Anne Herbert wrote this phrase on a piece of paper: random(任意的) acts of kindness. Later she repeated it in an interview on a TV show, and the phrase "random acts of kindness" caught people's attention. The phrase made people think about how small "kind" actions could make our daily lives better.

One rainy night a woman was standing at a bus stop waiting for the bus. A man came by on a motorcycle and offered to give her a ride. Of course, the woman said no. It would be crazy to accept a ride from a stranger on a motorcycle. Suddenly the man reached out and put a 50-dollar bill in her hand. He said, "Please take a taxi. It hurts me to see you standing here in the rain like this." Before she could refuse, he sped off on his motorcycle.

Kind acts can be contagious. Once, a woman was going through the toll station(收费站) on a highway. Instead of paying for one ticket, she asked for two. She said to the toll collector, "The second ticket is for the car behind me." She didn't know the person in that car. She just did it without thinking more. So when the next car came up, the toll collector said to the driver, "You don't have to pay. The woman in the blue car just paid for you." The driver was so surprised that he decided to pay for the person behind him. This continued with 14 drivers that day.

So just imagine what the world would be like if we all practised random acts of kindness from time to time?

Whether or not there is life on other planets is one of the great mysteries of our time. Some people are sure that other life forms exist(存在) and say they may have already paid us a visit. Of course there are also many people who believe that other life forms can't exist and that Earth is the only inhabited(有人居住的) planet in the whole universe.

One man who thinks that other forms of life are almost certain to be out there is one of the world's most famous scientists, Stephen Hawking. He has suggested that aliens(外星人) are very likely to exist and they might not be quite as friendly as we imagine.

The universe, Hawking says, has 100 billion galaxies. Each one of them has hundreds of millions of stars. In such a big place, Earth can't be the only planet with life on it. Most life forms, he thinks, will be simple, but with so many different life forms out there, some could be quite clever and some could even be dangerous.

And if they are out there, Hawking believes that contact with them might be the end for us. If they have the technology to travel to reach us, then in his opinion they might only see Earth as a place of valuable resources. They may simply come to Earth, take what they want, destroy the rest and then leave again.

Hawking ever said, "If aliens ever visit us, I think the result will be like when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, and that didn't turn out very well for the Native Americans."

Hawking is not the only one who believes in clever life forms outer space. Lord Rees, another famous scientist, recently said that aliens could be so highly developed that they might exist in forms that are too difficult for us to understand.

So, maybe it's time to forget our ideas of little green men who come in peace, stop sending rockets outside of our solar system, and pretend that we really are alone in the universe.

For the past ten years, my dad and I have attended the same school—he as an officer and I as a student. When I was younger, all that my dad said was right and anything he did I naturally1 . We played games together, and stayed up late reading bedtime stories. I could 2 my dad taking me to school, running into him 3 during the day and riding home with him every afternoon.

Last week I went on a perfect school trip with my classmates. We visited the science museum and I think it was really interesting. We got there so fast by train and we saw some farms and villages along the way. At the museum, I learned a lot about robots and I was quite interested in that. I didn't know they could even play chess with us. It was cool. Then the guide taught us how to make a model robot. I took a lot of photos as well. After that, I went to the gift shop and bought some lovely gifts for my parents. They weren't expensive. All in all, it was an exciting day.
