Housework is important for our family life. 

Last week I went to Nanjing with my parents. It's the capital of Jiangsu Province, and one of China's Four Great Ancient Capitals. We stayed there  three days.

The weather was sunny on the first day. We went to the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum (中山陵) and the Xuanwu Lake. They were fantastic. At noon, we had lunch in a famous restaurant. We were so hungry  we ate up all the food. Everything was very delicious,  (especial)Nanjing salted duck.

The next day, it was rainy. We felt  (bore) to stay in the hotel. So we went to visit the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. It just took  (we) breath away. There were too many people there. We forgot  (bring) our umbrellas, but luckily, a kind young man gave us three raincoats, so we didn't get wet.

Whether (无论) it's one day off or a week, you don't need to be among people to have a great time. Being alone (独自) can also be relaxing and amazing. You can spend your holiday by yourself doing something you have no time to do in your everyday life.

Eat your favourite food. It can bring you a lot of fun. You can make a healthy dinner at home. Cook something you love but usually don't have time to make. If you don't feel like having dinner at home, you can also go to a restaurant for something special. Eat it there, or bring it home. 

Stay away from technology (科技). You may have a chance (机会) to find the real beauty (美) of life.  Why not create time to do some outdoor activities? In this way, you will have chances to be close to nature.

 You can go shopping, see a movie, or take a class. Take your time to find even something small that you want. Going to see a movie or a show alone can be fun. Use your holiday as a chance to try something new, like dancing or painting.

 Leave your worries behind and try to be yourself, but remember that safety (安全) comes first.

Many kids help out around the house with chores such as cleaning the windows, sweeping the floor, and taking out the rubbish. By doing these chores, some kids get money or other rewards (奖励) such as computer time.

But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. Susie Walton, a parenting educator, thinks that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn't worth (值得) doing if you don't get something back. "A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It's important for kids to see that we all have duties in the house, and that families decide together how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like everyone wants it to look," Susie said.

Other people think that getting money or other rewards encourages kids to do chores, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to make money. There are new apps that give kids points (积分) and digital (电子的) gifts that can be redeemed online or in the real world. For example, with the chore Monster app, kids can use their digital points from chores to get a ticket to the park.

In 2025, a middle school student's article touched (感动) millions online. Zhang Xiaoran, a ninth-grader from Hangzhou, wrote about her trip back to her hometown, Ulanqab (乌兰察布).

In her article, she described traveling on a slow green train with her grandparents. The 25-hour ride was full of warm memories (记忆). She wrote about many sweet moments. On the train, a seller tried to sell things to the old, but few wanted to buy. But a kind grandfather bought snacks just because the seller said, "Kids love these." This reminded her of her grandfather.

After reading her article, Inner Mongolia's tourism department (内蒙古文旅局) gave her special gifts: free tickets to all the landscapes in Inner Mongolia, and boxes of local (当地的) snacks. "Your story shows the love for your hometown," they said. "We hope more people can feel its warmth."

Many people searched Ulanqab online because of the article. Some also shared their own stories and said Zhang's writing made them think of their childhood with grandparents. "I suddenly miss my grandma's cooking," one person wrote. "Her stories are just like mine."

Zhang's article is easy but full of love. It tells us that home is not just a place, but the people and memories. A slow train ride, a kind act, or a grandparent's smile—these small things show how family love stays with us. Her words make us want to go back to our hometowns and hug the ones we love.

During my summer vacation, I visited Pingjiang in Yueyang with my parents. One special place we went to was the Pingjiang Uprising Memorial Hall (平江起义纪念馆). It wasn't just a fun trip, it also taught me a lot about history.

When we walked into the hall, I saw old photos, rusty guns and swords (生锈的枪和剑) and old maps everywhere. A person in our group asked the guide, "Why did this uprising happen?" The guide told us that in 1928, brave soldiers (勇敢的士兵) fought for a better life. We all listened quietly because the story was sad but also very encouraging.

I didn't touch (触碰) anything in the museum, but I took photos of all the interesting things. In one room, there was a video showing how the soldiers worked together. We could all feel how brave they were! My mom said, "We should never forget what they sacrificed (牺牲)." We agreed and thought about how lucky we are to live in peace now. Before we left, I bought a postcard with a picture of the memorial hall. No one wanted to leave quickly. We all stayed for a bit more time to read the stories of the heroes on the walls.

This trip taught me that if we work together, we can make a difference. Now I understand why history is so important—it helps us value the happy life we have today.
