If you saw a man standing on top of a car, dressed like a monkey, and throwing seven balls in the air in your town, you might be a bit surprised. But during the Edinburgh Festival, it's something completely normal.

The festival takes place in August and is famous for its thousands of unusual and creative shows.You can walk down the street and see all kinds of performances for free, or go into theatres, pubs or rooms to watch live acts. There's just about every form of entertainment（娱乐）you can imagine,including plays, dance, music, and children's theatre.

The Edinburgh Festival is actually several festivals all in one month. The largest is the"Fringe Festival", described as the"biggest arts festival in the world" in the"Guinness（吉尼斯）Book of Records". In 2002, there were 1,491 shows with 20,342 performances. The other festivals are the"Jazz Festival", the"Film Festival", the"Military Tattoo" and mini-rock festivals.

So what kind of shows can you expect at the Edinburgh Festival? If you are interested in dance,Bounce is the show for you. It has all the latest street dancing. The dancers come from New York and the show is full of energy. If you prefer plays, you can watch The Dream Catcher, which shows the workings of the human mind and the fighting between fear and happiness. And if you' re looking for something truly unusual, try Fancy A Lift——a free,10-minute performance in a two-metre square lift,promising to"touch everybody in different ways".

With so many exciting performances, it's no wonder that the Edinburgh Festival has attracted（吸引）people from around the world each year.

The buses at the Uluru Sunset Viewing Area were parked in rows. Guides set up tables with drinks and snacks.

 After the sun went down, we got back on the bus. The guide smiled, "That was a pretty good sunset! But I' ve seen better ones." Behind me, Adam,a student from England, put his earphones back in."Well, that's enough of that rock," he said.

I was tired. We woke up at five in the morning and drove over 100 miles to see the sunset at Uluru.Now,I felt a little empty. Why was this rock so special? Why did we come all this way? Maybe my sons would always remember this moment. But no, they had even missed it! They were busy eating at another tour group's table because they had better chips.

Nowadays, people can buy almost everything. But new things soon become old, and people get bored. So, they start traveling to find"special experiences". Many people buy books like 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and mark the places they have visited.

But famous sights are never the best part of a trip. Sometimes, they feel like a duty, like visiting a boring relative. The more I travel, the more I feel that the real beauty of a place is in small everyday details（细节）, not in famous buildings or scenery. So, throw your book away and forget about the checklist——there are surely more than 1,000 wonders in the world.

Lydia has found an amazing way to make her running more meaningful. She runs and picks up rubbish at the same time. This cool activity  (call)"plogging". It mixes running with collecting rubbish. Last June, she  (one) learned the idea of plogging on the Internet. As soon as she learned it, she wanted to give it a try. 

Lydia runs four or five times  week. Besides, she takes her two cute dogs for a walk every day. Now she always takes several bags (collect) rubbish when she goes out.  the past, she just ran without caring about the litter on the ground. Now, she realizes she  (waste) the last few years of her running life. She feels much  (good) now that she is doing plogging.

Lee grew up in New York. As his family was not  （富裕）, he learned from a young age the importance of avoiding the waste of food. When in college, he （加入）a student group that gave out leftover food to homeless people. This experience made him realize how  （严重）the problem of food wastage actually was. 

After he left university, Lee and a friend set up an organization called Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC).  （它的）purpose is to collect unsold food from restaurants and send it for free to food kitchens. Volunteers pick up the food from restaurants around the  （城市）and hand it out to those in need.

● The first time we read, we usually pay more attention to what happens next, so we hurry to finish the story. On a second read, we can catch more details——the feelings behind the words, the deeper meanings, and the writer's purpose. 

●It makes memory stronger. Revisiting a book helps us review what we know, making it easier to store that knowledge in long-term memory. It's like exercising a muscle（肌肉）. 

●It helps you care for others. Reading, especially fiction, helps us understand people better. When we re-read, we go beyond the storyline and think more about characters, which makes our ability better to connect with others in real life. 

If you' re thinking about revisiting an old favorite, here are some ways to make it even more worthwhile. 

✿Choose a book you love. Don't overthink it——pick something that makes you feel good. 

✿Slow down. It's different from reading a book for the first time.  Take your time and enjoy the experience. 

✿Write down your thoughts. This can be helpful. Write down how the book makes you feel this time, what new ideas you notice, and what you' re learning about yourself. 

Reading a beloved book again is like sitting down with an old friend——one who understands you better than anyone else. So go ahead! Choose a favorite book.  You might be surprised by what you discover this time.

Young Chinese have started new part-time jobs, such as teaching Chinese, helping foreigners choose Chinese names, and working as foreign language tour guides. More tourists are coming to China and lots of foreigners are using Chinese social apps, which is making these jobs popular. 

A niche（小众市场）related to foreigners has developed in China. Services like helping foreign couples plan their honeymoon trips in China or guiding tourists to visit the Great Wall have become especially popular. In the past year until mid-February, the number of these services has gone up by 98% and the number of orders for those products has increased by 275%, according to Xianyu, Alibaba Group's online trading platform（平台）for secondhand goods. 

Wu Pengfei, a college student in Shanghai, has been a part-time tour guide since June last year, and he has received three groups of foreign travelers so far, including those from Singapore, Spain and Kyrgyzstan. 

As a student majoring in Chinese teaching, Wu said he needs to get in touch with more foreigners to prepare for his future job. 

Wu, who has posted his information on Xianyu, also provides tour guide services for Chinese travelers. 

"I make 500 yuan ($68. 7) a day as a tour guide, and I don't mind the travel time or the number of travelers. I have had some good experiences, as the job can help me make my interpersonal communication skills better. " Wu said. 

By making use of their language skills and cultural knowledge, young Chinese connect China and the world. As more tourists flock to China and global interest in Chinese culture grows, there's an increasing need for such jobs. 

It was a cold Sunday. Jimmy went hiking with his nature club to Turtle Lake in the state park. As they hiked, the wind started to blow, and a few snowflakes began to fall. 

"It's snowing, " Jimmy said. "Maybe we should go back. "

"I think we can make it. We should keep going, " Julie said firmly. And they kept walking.

It not only prevents us seeing the stars, but also has a terrible influence on animals. The day to night cycle is an important part of nature, telling animals when to come out to hunt, search food, migrate, and mate. But when we add artificial light, clearly that's going to mess things up——wildlife from bugs to birds, and even plants, are badly influenced. 

Light pollution is getting worse every year, but there are simple solutions to help wildlife and bring back our night sky view, experts say. "If you can turn off lights more often, it saves electricity and it's kind of a win-win. " says Valentina Alaasam, a study author and biologist at the University of Nevada, Reno. "Also, the kind of light we use really matters, " says Alaasam, "For birds, if you use a warmer and yellower one, it will be less harmful. "

Simply closing your curtains can also help prevent the light from shining into the environment. One study in Chicago found that if we make windows less bright by half, it could help cut down the number of birds hitting upon them by 60 percent. 

When a light is troubling you or you think it's a problem, it's worth trying. Often, there are very simple fixes that don't cost very much money and can generally solve the problem. Start small!
