The Emperor's New Clothes
Once upon a time, there was an emperor who loved clothes very much. He spent all his money on beautiful clothes and cared little about his country or people.
One day, two brothers came to the city. They lied to the emperor, "We can make wonderful clothes! But only clever people can see them. Foolish people can't see anything." The emperor was very happy. He wanted to have such clothes to show he was clever.
The two brothers pretended to make the clothes. They asked for a lot of gold and silk, but they kept everything for themselves. They just pretended to work day and night.
When the clothes were "finished", the emperor went to see them. He couldn't see anything, but he was afraid to say so. He didn't want others to think he was foolish. So he praised the clothes highly.
The emperor decided to wear the "new clothes" in a parade. People in the street lined up to watch. They all couldn't see the clothes, but no one dared to tell the truth. They didn't want to be called foolish.
Suddenly, a little boy cried out, "Look! The emperor has no clothes on!" Everyone looked at the emperor and started laughing. The emperor felt very embarrassed, but he had to continue the parade.
