On April 19, 2025, Beijing's Yizhuang district held the world's first humanoid (人形的) robot half-marathon. Twenty-one teams of robots from big cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong entered the 21.1-kilometre race with the help of human runners, showing how robots can deal with real world tasks like long-distance running.

The winner, Tiangong Ultra from the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, made it in2hours and40 minutes with a top speed of 12 kilometers per hour. Scientists used special materials to lighten the 1.8-meter-tall robot's weight and used cooling systems to avoid overheating. Other teams, such as Whirlwind Kid and Little Giant, caught people's eyes because of AI-powered control on slopes (斜坡) and stone paths.

The race tested if the robots did well in difficult situations. The paths had difficult turns and slopes.

Teams could change batteries(电池) at seven supply stations. If teams changed the whole robot to run, they would lose 10 minutes. Some robots wore special shoes to protect legs, while others used real-time sensors (传感器) to avoid falls.

Except for competition, the event greatly improved real-world robotics. For example, Tsinghua University's Kuafu robot learned to move better with a little training, showing ability for saving people from dangerous situations like an earthquake. It is a milestone, marking future uses such as helping doctors in hospitals or moving products in factories.

Beijing's Yizhuang area, home to over 100 robotics companies, plans to use these technologies widely in healthcare and other fields. As an engineer said, "This marathon shows how robots and humans can work together for a smarter future."

④According to the National Library of China, there are about 30 million ancient paper books in the library, and over 85% of them were made of Xuan paper.

⑤As time went by, Xuan paper became popular among writers and artists. The reason might lie in its origin (起源). An often-told story about the origin of Xuan paper says Kong Dan, a paper making worker during the Eastern Han Dynasty, searched for a kind of paper that would not discolor or grow mold(发霉) to keep the picture of his teacher Cai Lun, the inventor of paper making, and finally created Xuan paper.

⑥With its smooth surface and good quality, Xuan paper can be kept for a long time. If it is preserved well, it can be used for more than 2,0o0 years while ink and color on it remain fresh and bright. The paper, as a result, is named "Paperof Ages".

Qiemo County, once known as the "desert town", is in the Taklimakan Desert. There, Tian Ye and his team have spent many years working tothe desert into green land. 

Tian joined the army at a young age. During his service, he once visited Qiemo. He was shocked by the strong sandstorms there. After he retired (退役), these memories were still clear in his mind. He then decided to do something to change that.

The Chinese Merganser, also known as the Scaly-sided Merganser, is a rare and beautiful duck. It lives in clean rivers and lakes in East Asia, especially in China and Russia. This bird is famous for its colorful feathers (羽毛). The male has a dark green head, a white neck, and black-and-white scaly patterns on its sides. The female is less colorful but still beautiful with a brownish-gray body. 

These ducks breed (繁殖) in Northeast China and the Russian Far East during the summer. They usually build their nests in tree holes near water. The mother duck lays (P) about 8 to 12 eggs and takes care of them alone until they hatch. The baby ducks can swim and find food just one day after birth! And they can fly about 60 days later. When winter comes, they fly south to warmer areas, such as the Yangtze River basin in China. 

Chinese Mergansers mainly eat small fish, insects, and sometimes shrimp. They are good swimmers and divers. They dive underwater to catch their food. They can stay underwater for about 15-20 seconds while hunting. They often work together to drive fish into shallow water, making it easier to catch them. Sadly, there are less than 3, 000 Chinese Mergansers left in the wild. The main reason is that human activities have caused water pollution and loss of their habitat (栖息地). Many people are now working to protect them. In China, some nature reserves have been set up to keep these ducks safe and rebuild their habitat. 

The East Zhejiang Canal (运河), also known as the Zhedong Canal, is part of the Grand Canal of China. Running from the Qiantang River in Hangzhou to the city of Ningbo the Zhedong Canal played an important role in transport (运输) and trade for centuries. Before modern roads and railways, waterways were one of the most important ways to transport goods. 

Built over 2, 0o0 years ago, the canal was used to transport goods like rice, silk, and tea in ancient China. Even today, some parts of the canal are still in use, mostly for tourism (旅游). Along the canal, there are old towns and bridges. Tourists can see traditional houses, walk along the ancient paths, and take boat rides on the canal. 

Today, the Zhejiang government is working to protect the canal. They clean the water and repair old buildings. The scenery along the canal is becoming more and more beautiful, especially in spring and autumn. 

The Zhedong Canal is not just a waterway - it is a symbol of ancient Chinese people's wisdom and smart engineering.

One sunny Saturday, a family went to the park for a picnic. As they enjoyed their food, a small, dirty dog came close to them. 

"He looks hungry, " said the girl. 

"I think he wants to play, " said the boy. 

The children played with the dog all afternoon. They named him Willy. When it was time to leave, they wished to take Willy home.

Seeing this, the dog warden decided to let them take Willy home. From that day on, Willy lived happily with his new family. He was finally in the place he truly belonged. 

When I was in Grade 7, I worked as a volunteer (志愿者) at a hospital during the summer. I 1 most of the time with a man named Mr. Gillespie. He didn't have any visitors, and no one seemed to2 him.
