More and more people like going bike riding in China these years. Most Chinese people learned to ride a bike when they were young kids. There are more cars than bikes on the roads all over the world, but bikes can take us almost anywhere, and it's green.

Riding a bike is fun. Get on a bike and ride around our neighbourhood. We may feel fun to find something new around us. I usually go to work by bike. Because stopping and getting off a bike is easier than stopping and getting out of my car. And it's also good for our health. A 15-minute bike riding three times a week can make us healthy. It will not pollute (污染) the air. And scientists say exercise like bike riding can make people feel happier and more relaxed.

In Rui'an, Zhejiang, there is a path for bike riding, and people call it "green path". There are lots of green trees on both sides of the road and the air is fresh. On weekends, lots of parents take their kids there. They hope their kids can have a good rest and do some sports after a busy week. It is also a great place for people to get together with their family members or friends.

So let's drive cars less and ride bikes more, and give our children a better world in the future.

For example, what would we do without a community fire station? If a home catches on fire, as the Jackson's place did last week, it might be broken down and people get hurt or worse. We're so lucky to have firemen to come to save people and put out the fire. If the firemen hadn't come so fast, the Jacksons might have lost everything.

And what about our local police? The police have helped so many families, especially saving people and pets after the heavy rains.

Think about all the other service (服务) workers we have in this community. Some people collect waste and rubbish (垃圾) and keep our community clean. Some people repair traffic lights and holes (洞) in the streets for not just us, but our cars! And what would this community be without the teachers in our school, the doctors and nurses in our community hospitals?

Think again about what we eat every day; think again about what we wear every day. We cannot make them, but we use them all the time. We get a lot from all these workers. We need these people in the community. We depend on each other. Let's support and help each other. Only in this way can we make our community a better place.

Chang Le was one of my classmates. He always listened to his mother, but I didn't like listening to my mother. I thought there was no need for her to teach me anything. Sometimes I didn't agree with her and even shouted at her. Chang Le knew all about that, but he said nothing to me.

One weekend, Chang Le invited me to watch a movie. I liked movies very much, so I went to the cinema with him happily. The movie was about the love between a mother and her son. After watching it, I began to know how great mother's love was. I felt sorry that I didn't listen to my mother before. I decided to think more about my mother. I would have a good talk with her when we had different ideas. After I told that to Chang Le, he smiled and said, "It's really helpful for boys to watch such a movie. That's a good choice for both you and me."

Why did Chang Le invite me to watch the movie? Just at that time, I knew a true friend is always helpful.

Reporter: Mike, when did you start cooking?

Mike: When I was four, I became interested in cooking. I started helping my mum in the kitchen when I was five. At the age of six, I could make vegetable salad. One year later, I could make a fruit pie all by myself.

Reporter: What's the best way to get good at cooking?

Mike: I don't go to cooking classes. Sometimes I watch videos on the phone. I often read books about cooking. Actually, I think the best way to improve my cooking is trying it again and again. If it is not good, I'll do it differently next time.

Reporter: What do your parents think of your cooking?

Mike: They're glad because they don't have to make dinner every day, and they enjoy my cooking usually! But, you can't make everyone happy all the time.

Reporter: Finally, what's it like being on TV?

Mike: It's interesting. In fact, I really enjoy myself making the shows. But I still find it strange when people I don't know say hello to me in the street.

Let me share a story with you. Gina was 8-year-old girl. She thought that she was not as pretty as others. She also thought that it was (possible) for her to make friends with her classmates. She just stayed at home alone. How lonely she (feel)!

Li Meng's Diary of Her First Week

September 1 (Monday)
