Healthy relationships play an important role in everyone's life.  If you hope to improve your relationships with your family or friends, here are some things you can do.

Spend more time with the people you care about. If you hardly see or talk to each other, it can be difficult to keep a relationship.  For example, you can share a meal, watch a show or go shopping with them.

Actively listen to your family or friends.  People will open up to you and share their true ideas if you listen to them carefully. In this way, you can know them better.

 Making them breakfast, helping them with housework and buying them gifts are great ways to show your care and love. When they feel warm, they will also warm to you. So think of what they enjoy and try to do something for them.

Show others our appreciation and gratitude (欣赏和感激).  It's a great way to bring people closer.

Emma had been counting down the days until the school science fair (展览会). She put a lot of love into making a volcano (火山). She shaped it with paper, glued (粘) it all together, and was ready to see it "explode (爆炸)" like a real one with a cool science trick using baking soda and vinegar (醋).

It was finally the fair day, and Emma was super excited. Holding her volcano so, so carefully, she walked through the halls filled with noise and other kids. Suddenly, her shoe caught on something, and down she went. Her volcano flew from her hands and broke! It was in tiny pieces on the ground. Big tears rolled down Emma's face. How could she show a broken volcano at the fair?

Her classmates saw the whole thing. They raced over, not wanting Emma to be sad. "We can fix it," they said. They ran to get supplies—paper, glue, and even some paint. Kids from other grades joined in too, wanting to help make Emma's volcano better.

Together, they all worked super fast. They laughed and shared ideas. The new volcano was different but still very cool. And when Emma poured the vinegar into the baking soda, it seemed like a real volcano blowing its top! Everyone cheered!

Although Emma didn't win a prize for her project, she felt like she had won something much bigger. She saw that her friends cared about her and were ready to help out. They taught her that being together and helping is way better than just winning alone. Emma smiled, thinking that this was the best science fair ever.

NOT many years ago, there was a world without smartphones. There was a time with no smartphones. It was a simpler time—a time of face-to-face conversations, physical maps and alarm clocks. Let's go back to that pre-smartphone age.

The first stop is communication. Communication was more personal. People wrote letters and sent faxes. Making a phone call meant dialing on a keypad and waiting. Words were the only way to express feelings, because there were no emojis (表情符号).

Next, let's talk about navigation (导航). In the past, people depended on physical maps compasses to find their way. There was a joy in spreading out a large map and using their finger to find their way.

Entertainment was very different as well. People read books, played board games or went outside. There were no online video apps.

In the pre-smartphone age, people also had a different relationship with time. We depended on watches and wall clocks. We had to set our alarm clocks by hand every night before going to bed. And we used calendars to mark important dates and events.

 In short, life before smartphones was different but not necessarily worse. It made us more patient, more focused on the present. Maybe in the future, we'll look back at the pre-AI days like we do now. But for now, we should value the process that has shaped our current lives. It shows us how technology has changed our world, but also makes us remember the simple joys we once had.

Have you ever thought about running a marathon (马拉松)? A friend of mine, Stephen, has started training for one, but the idea of completing 26 miles surprises me a lot because it puts a lot of stress on the body.

First, Stephen went to his doctor to make sure he didn't have heart disease. When he was told he was fit enough to do it, my friend started running every afternoon. He keeps training and makes progress every day. All this training is helping him a lot. 

Experts advised him to warm up just before the race because he might get hurt during the race. The biggest problem during the marathon seems to be the water. Experts say that on a hot and humid (湿热的) day we can lose too much water. Those who don't drink enough may suffer a lot. It means they'll feel very tired because marathon running can lead to a problem in blood pressure.

Judy O'Sullivan, a nurse at the British Heart Foundation, advises, "it's important that you train in a right way. Make sure that you join the event step by step and safely. On the day of your event, remember to warm up, and rest if you feel pain or uncomfortable."

According to experts, a month before the race, a marathon runner should be able to go for 15 miles without feeling too much pressure. Well, Stephen is close to achieving this. 

I'm proud of my friend's effort, but I miss our afternoons drinking beer, eating food and watching football. Stephen said running a marathon is all his dream. He said if he doesn't make it this time, he will keep trying.
