When you're bored, you might watch short videos. But according to a new study, this will only make you unable to focus attention (注意力) and feel more bored.

A team at the University of Toronto Scarborough in Canada did an experiment (实验) on this with 159 people.

First, they asked people lo watch a 10-minute YouTube video, People had to watch it right to the end. After that, they could choose from,7 short video. Each video was 5 minutes long, and they had to watch for 10 minutes without pause (停顿). They were free to skip (停顿) through the videos or switch (切换) between them.

The scientists asked people how they felt during the experiment. They all enjoyed the first part more than the second.

Why is this? Boredom has something to do with attention, The more we dive into (沉浸) a video, the less bored we will feel. So it is better for us to watch a video carefully and not to skip or switch videos too quickly.

My Favourite Season

Maddie is a 5 - year - old girl. Spring is her favourite season. At this time every year, two wonderful things happen to her. First her grandma comes and then the cranes (鹤).

Early in the morning, Maddie and Grandma go to the lake to watch the cranes. They see the cranes dance, build their homes, and feed their babies insects and fish.

During the hot summer, the baby cranes grow and become strong.

The weather starts getting cool when the season changes and it's time for Grandma to go back home. Maddie thinks, "The cranes will leave too."

If you were 71 years old, how fast could you run a 100 - metre race? Jin Hui, from Qingdao, Shandong Province, gives us his answer - 13.97 seconds (秒)! He is the first Chinese man over the age of 70 to run 100 metres in under 14 seconds.

After Jin retires (退休), he doesn't know what to do with his free time for a while. His son tells him to join a football team for old people in Qingdao. At first, he doesn't play well. He then practises running every day. His teammates (队友) notice how fast he can run, and they encourage him to take part in running races.

With his teammates' encouragement, Jin goes for some running races. To his surprise, he wins many medals(奖章). That  makes him feel really great.

Jin shares his running stories online. He is glad that his stories can make others love sports. He hopes more people, young and old, will join him to exercise and keep fit. He says, "▲ If you have a dream and work hard for it, you can do something amazing even in your old age." As for the future, he will take part in more races and try to break his record (纪录).

Lily is a sunny girl. One morning, she1  her friend Bob sitting by a river, looking sad. Lily wants to make him happy.

"Hi, Bob!" Lily says. "Why the long face?"
