Children usually like animals, but many zoos are too far away from children's houses. A "small zoo" in Qingdao is special—it is in a welfare home (福利院).

The Qingdao Children's Welfare Home has about 200 children and most of them have health problems. They are lucky because the zoo is near their house. They can see animals out of the windows.

Last year, a big boy there wasn't in good health. The head of the welfare home visited him every day. On one visit, the head asked, "What do you want to do after you get well?" The boy said, "I want to see animals." Then the head said, "I'll take you to the zoo after you get well." But, the next day, the boy left the world.
