You may say, "I play inside more than outside and I like to play games on the computer." If so, you spent more time inside walls than outside in fresh air.

Kids today spend two fewer hours per week on sports and outdoor activities than kids did 20 years ago. That's according to a study from the University of Michigan. Non-moving activities are more popular now. Besides, the costs are overweight, greater stress, less joy and so on.

Play is important, even for adults. Just getting outdoors to play will bring you surprising results. Here are three reasons.

Outdoor activities better your senses (感觉官能).

Next time you sit down to message your friends, take notes of your senses during and after your texting. Then you do the same experiment after you've done something outside. You will find being outdoors brings the senses to life. "Hiking, exploring and fishing help hone all of your senses." Says Betsy Keller. She does research on exercise and sports sciences. "Smell, hearing...all of your senses are in use when you're outside."

Are you stressed out? Too much indoor time—away from the natural world—is a reason of being much too nervous. Nervousness is a price we pay for being so far away from nature. However, playing outdoors does good to both body and mind.

Spending time outdoors brings you closer to the environment.

When you're out, breathe in fresh air and search for cool birds and plants in the woods. It can help you feel more connected (相连的) to the natural world. No woods nearby? Nature can be found right outside your door or in a nearby park.

Therefore, next time you sit down to spend time on a video game, think about going outdoors to play

"Not bad, Stone, not bad." he said to himself and smiled. Maybe he wasn't ready for Hollywood, but with his dark brown eyes and his thick brown hair, he had the looks that turned girls' heads. He moved closer to the mirror and smiled, checking his teeth.

"Perfect." he thought. "Good enough for a toothpaste ad."

As his eyes moved down to his strong arms, he smiled again. The hours he spent in the gym and doing sit-ups had paid off.

But suddenly, the smile froze. His eyes moved from the upper part of his body down to his legs. His legs were short. Not just short, but far too short for his body. He had the upper body of a six-footer, but because of his legs he was much less than six feet! Six inches less! Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone. Standing, he had to look up at most of the boys and even many of the girls.

Why didn't his legs grow with the rest of his body? He was one of the shortest boys in his class. He was the shortest in his own family. He was even shorter than his "little" sister—by three inches! Where did his legs come from?

He certainly didn't get them from his parents. They were both quite tall. Looking through old family photos, he found the answer. It was his grandfather on his mother's side. His short legs were a gift from Grandpa Tuttle.

Thanks a lot, Grandpa!

Of course, the kids at school all noticed Jay's short legs and they had a nickname (外号) for him: Stubs! Almost no one called him by his real name; they all called him Stubs. Stubs Stone, Jay didn't like his nickname, but he had to accept it. He had no choice.

But Jay couldn't see in the mirror what his legs could do. They were quick and strong. He was the youngest player on the Brewer High football team. He could run faster than anyone else in the team and, like a rabbit, he kept going and going. Even at basketball, where the other players were much taller than him, they were still afraid of him because of his speed.

Jay shook his head. "Stubs, Stubs Stone, the kid with stubby legs. Yeah, that's me." He said to himself with a little smile. Suddenly, he heard his mother's voice.

"Jay, it's breakfast time."

Just when I thought I couldn't2 it anymore, a weak light appeared. At first, I thought I was daydreaming, but then I heard voices. I tried to call out, but my voice was not loud.

To my comfort, the light came closer. Two people came out of the snowstorm, carrying3. "Are you okay? Do you need some help?" one of them asked. His voice was full of4.

"I'm lost." I tried to get my words out. They quickly put a warm blanket around me and told me they were members of a volunteer team. They were5 anyone who might be lost in the snowstorm.

However, as we were heading back, one of the volunteers fell down and broke his right leg. Worry started to come, but the other volunteer kept6. "We need to find a safe place to stay overnight." he said. We tried to help the injured (受伤的) volunteer to a small cave nearby.

When daybreak arrived, the uninjured volunteer set out to find help, while I stayed behind to take care of the injured one.

After a few hours, the volunteer7 with a larger team. They helped us back to safety. Thanks to their help, that longest night has also become the most8 night in my life.

Many families live busy lives. Every week, the children have homework, sports, music lessons and club activities. The parents are busy too. They work, do the housework, cook meals and drive their children to take part in activities. Some families do not have time to eat meals together more than once a week. Our community（社区）decided that it was time to take a break.

After three weeks of planning, we took one night off. We called it the"family night". It was a night for families to spend time together. Sports teams stopped their practices, and teachers did not give homework.

On the"family night", we decided to turn off our televisions. "We also decided not to answer the phone," answering machines said. "Please call back tomorrow." Many families ordered hamburgers and other food from stores or restaurants so that they wouldn't need to spend time cooking.

There were lots of activities. Storytelling and card games were the most popular. These activities gave families the chance to spend time together. Children and parents weren't so busy, and children didn't spend so much time playing computer games or watching TV. On the"family night", families relaxed and spent the evening together. We hope to have more"family nights".

Last week, our school had a special project about plants and animals. We had to make some  (poster). I  (attend) it with my classmates.

First, we needed to choose a title. Lucy chose"One of the  (strange) animals in the world".

Not everyone thinks that children should help with housework.  Others feel that they should only think about school and after-school activities and have fun.

For children, learning how to do housework is an important part of growing up. 

For example, they can help clean up their rooms, make the bed, and set the table. In this way, children learn that a family needs everyone's help. As they grow, it feels natural for children to do more housework like washing the dishes.  If they are doing something for the first time, they should learn how to do it first.

 They think that helping with the housework might make children's lives hard when they should just enjoy being young. They think childhood is an important part of children's lives and that they should focus on enjoying it.

If you asked scientists whether monkeys and chimpanzees（黑猩猩）had a sense of right and wrong before they had a deep study on them, they would tell you that it seemed not possible.

It was believed that only humans could imagine the future. Some people said that most monkeys were cleverer than most dogs. What's more, if dogs seemed unhappy when they did something bad, some people believed that dogs learnt such an action to make their owners happy. It doesn't mean that dogs understand why their owners are angry. It doesn't mean that animals can think about the future.

Now, however, it appears that chimpanzees and monkeys may be able to think about the future. Santino is a chimpanzee and he lives at a zoo in Sweden. He is famous for his bad mood. Santino doesn't like being looked at by visitors and he often throws stones at them. Before visitors walk into the zoo, he must have decided if he is prepared for visiting days. He begins collecting stones so that he is fully ready to throw them when people come to see him. The interesting thing is that Santino would only collect stones when he thinks visitors might come. In winter when the zoo is closed, he doesn't collect them.

Santino's action is a clear example of an animal planning for the future. It's also an example to show "scientific" beliefs come from facts rather than opinions. It seems likely that within ten years, we shall have a completely different view of animal intelligence（智慧）。

Do you know about"lying-flat" travel（躺平旅行）? It's a new way to relax by slowing down and enjoying the moment during holidays. Now, many young people choose to travel this way. Cheng Yi is one of them.

Cheng Yi, a36-year-old worker, enjoys travelling. In the past, she and her family were always on the go during holidays. They rushed to busy cities, discovering more places and sightseeing. That always made them tired. Now, their holidays are more about spending meaningful moments together as a family.

"I used to think of such vacations as a waste of time, but now they fit our family perfectly. We choose places with playgrounds and fun activities for kids. We can relax and don't need to worry about too many people or long waiting lines. Just being together with family at hotels can make our holidays delightful," said Cheng.

More people are choosing"lying-flat" travel as a way to get away from busy routines and find inner（内 心的） peace. However, this doesn't mean they will stop exploring wonderful places. They are still open to other travel ideas.

"Travel isn't just about visiting many places. It's about experiencing the place you' re in and learning about the local（当地的）life. The good times we create together really matter," Cheng said.
