In order to help students learn about nature, a lecture about wild animals    this Friday.

The Volunteer Club students loved helping others. Last Sunday, they decided to o help at a community library.

To get r for this activity, the students met and made a plan on Sunday morning. In the afternoon, as soon as they arrived, some organized a story time for kids. They read interesting stories aloud with funny voices. This brought them great j and the kids laughed happily. Some students cleaned dusty bookshelves and some sorted old books carefully.

By now, you've spent years sitting in front of a school desk. You also need to sit while doing homework or using your computer at home.  Here are some tips for you.

◆Start with your shoulders

Our shoulders play an important role in keeping good overall posture. Naturally, our body weight is supported by our spine (脊柱). Our back muscles (肌肉) have to work all the time to help us sit up straight.  That way, the muscles in our back and neck don't have to work as hard.

◆Your arms need a rest

If your arms are not supported, they will sooner or later start to pull on your neck and shoulders. 

◆Keep your screen or book right in front of you

If you keep your screen or book off-center from your chair, you'll have to turn your body and head to see it. This is a common cause of sitting pain.  Raise or lower it slightly so that the top is at eye level.

◆Take breaks

 Consider setting an alarm to check your posture every hour. It can help keep your body in good shape.

If I ask you to picture a school building, what will come to your mind? Maybe bright yellow or blue walls? Or classrooms with big windows? You might change your mind after reading this article about Huizhen High School in Zhejiang.

The school looks like a "floating forest". The classrooms are "hung" in different corners of this "forest". There are also tree houses for students to rest from their busy schoolwork. A ramp (坡道) leads up to a rooftop that is used as both a lecture hall and a park with sports areas. Everything there, from the theater and library to the labs and stores, is connected by a long walkway. Students always walk among trees on this Z-shaped walkway.

Ma is one of the school's designers. He is always trying to create fun buildings. While working on this high school, Ma wanted to design more than just a collection of buildings. By bringing the power of nature into his design, he hopes to reshape how people think about school life. The designers think "blank spaces" are really important in a school. "I want to give students a place to relax, daydream and discover beauty," Ma said. "You know, people are often most creative when they seem to be ‘doing nothing'."

At the 2023 World Architecture Festival, Huizhen High School was named the World Building of the Year. One of the judges said he was impressed by the design because no one would imagine a school could look like this. What surprised him most was how buildings and nature mixed together in a really wonderful way. He hoped to take a lesson from this "forest" school in design.

The lion dance is often seen during festivals and celebrations in China. It is a traditional Chinese art form with a history of thousands of years and shows the spirit and creativity of Chinese people.

In the Han Dynasty, a golden lion was brought to China as a gift. After that, people danced like lions. During the Three Kingdoms period, the state of Wu wore lion costumes to scare enemies and show its power. In the Tang Dynasty, it became a popular activity for the emperor. Since the Song Dynasty, lion dances have spread and become a common show for ordinary people. People loved them and created different styles over time.

There are two main types of lions used in the lion dance: the Northern Lion and the Southern Lion. The Northern Lion looks strong and brave. It has big eyes and lots of fur. The dancers who play the Northern Lion do many cool moves, like jumping and rolling, just like a real lion. The Southern Lion is smaller in size, with more colours but a simpler design. It also has a funny face. Sometimes it looks happy, and sometimes it looks angry.

Performing the lion dance well requires skills and practice. If dancers want to be proficient in it, they need to practise a lot to learn how to move together and make the lion look real. They also need to listen to the music carefully, like drums, because they tell them when to move fast or slow. One of the most exciting parts of it is when the lion tries to get a "green" (usually a vegetable) that is hanging high up. This part is called "cai qing" in Chinese, which means "picking the green". It is a symbol of good luck and wealth. As time goes by, the lion dance stays fresh. It mixes with music, dance, and acrobatics (杂技).

Nowadays, the lion dance remains an important and popular art form in Chinese culture. Chinese people often get together to watch the performance during festivals.

Sarai, a 12-year-old girl, loved horses. She was so happy that she got a horse named Amadore. But Amadore was afraid and would not let her put on his halter (缰绳). Her dad said, "If you can't do it by tomorrow, he must go back to the farm." Sarai tried giving apples and talking softly, but Amadore still hid in the corner.

A boy named Cody watched her. "I know why he's afraid," he said. Sarai looked upset. "Leave me alone!" But after another failed try, she asked Cody, "What's wrong?"

"Your face looks worried," Cody explained. "Horses feel what you feel." He showed her an experiment. They took two pictures of Silvio, a groom (马夫): one smiling, one angry. Cody held the happy picture near his horse, Monty. Monty stayed calm. But when Cody showed the angry picture, Monty breathed loudly and stepped back.

Sarai smiled big and walked into Amadore's stall.

"Let's try again, boy," she said gently, with a soft and kind voice. Amadore smelled her hand, taking in her friendly smell. Slowly, he moved closer, his feet making soft sounds on the ground. Sarai carefully put the halter on him, being very careful not to scare him. Tears filled her eyes. "You did it!" she said to Amadore quietly. Sarai looked at Cody with a grateful look on her face. Cody gave her a thumbs-up. "See? Smiles work!" Cody smiled.

Later, they heard noise in another stall. Two kids were trying to brush a jumpy female horse. "She hates this!" one shouted. Sarai smiled widely, "I know your problem. Smile! Horses like happy faces."

Once, a father and his son went to a kite flying festival. The son was very excited to see all the colourful1 in the sky and asked his father to buy him one. To make him 2 , the father went to a nearby shop at the park and bought one.

The son started flying his kite 3 . Soon it reached high up in the sky. After some time, the son thought to himself, "It seems like the string is stopping the kite from flying 4 . If I break it, the kite will be free to fly even higher." So he asked his father for a small 5 and cut the string.

"Well, the string wasn't holding the kite down; it was actually helping it stay up when the wind was calm and guiding it in the 8 direction when the wind picked up," the father 9 . "When we cut the string, the kite lost that support and fell down. Similarly, in life, we may feel that limits, like rules or hard tasks, are10 holding us back, but they are actually guiding us in the right direction."

The film continues the 8 story of NeZha and Ao Bing. It shows amazing character growth. Ne Zha, once known for his rebellious (叛逆) nature, learns 9 for his friends and understand his true self. 10 friend Ao Bing, who used to have a hard time with personal troubles, becomes a brave fighter. The film teaches important life lessons, encouraging people to stay brave when facing difficulties, fight for what is right, 11 value friendship and family. Learning these lessons 12 important for both kids and adults. The film 13 includes parts of Chinese culture, like jokes in Sichuan dialect and designs from ancient artifacts, such as Sanxingdui masks and the famous Rui He Tu painting from the Song Dynasty.

So far, Ne Zha2 has been shown in theaters around the world and received high praise 14 many people. It shows China's growing creativity in film-making and storytelling. We believe that we 15 see more great Chinese films in the near future.

Smartphone, poor sight

Look around and you'll see people busy on their smart phones. Smart phones do make our lives easier. But have you ever thought about what they mean to your eyes?

According to a study, half of British people own smart phones and they spend an average of two hours a day using them. There has been a 35% increase in the number of people in the UK who suffer from shortsightedness since smart phones were introduced there in 1997. 

Staring at smart phones for a long time gives you dry eyes. When looking at something in the distance, your eyes automatically blink a certain number of times. However, when you look at things closer to your face, the blinking slows down. This reduces the amount of tears and causes discomfort in your eyes. Another bad habit is using smart phones in dark rooms before going to sleep. If you look at a bright screen while your pupils become larger, too much light enters your eyes. This can do harm to the eyes and cause a disease called glaucoma. 

While you're probably not going to stop using to your smart phone, there are a few things you can do to protect your eyes. Hold your phone at least 30 continues away from your eyes when using it. Take a break every hour and try the following: look at something at least five meters from you and then focus on the tip of your nose. Repeat this several times. It should reduce the discomfort in your eyes.

Do you know about the Dragon Boat Festival? It is1 traditional festival in our country. It is on 2 day of the 5th lunar month. On that day, people in some places celebrate the festival by having dragon boat races. What's more, 3 zongzion that day is another custom (风俗). Then do you know how 4 zongzi? Here is a way.

To make zongzi, you need to have some glutinous rice (糯米), some red dares (枣), some reed leaves (粽叶) and some strings (绳). Of course, you 5 have other things like meat and salted duck eggs. First, put the glutinous rice 6 the water and cook it for two hours. 7 the same time, wash some reed leaves and red dates. If you want to eat zongziwith meat, cut the meat into pieces. Next, shape the reed leaves8 hand. Then, fill them with the glutinous rice and red dates or meat pieces and tie them with strings. Finally, put them in a pot and cook them for about three 9 . When you eat them, you can add some honey or sugar to the bowl. If you make too many, you can keep10 in a fridge. Remember to heat them fully before eating.

As a teacher, I know it's important to teach our children to have healthy habits. Our school changes the menu from Monday to Friday to let the children try different kinds of food.

Our school also rented (租) an area of land near the school for a vegetable garden. Children now plant the seeds (种子) and watch as these turn into healthy vegetables. We plan to make a child-friendly kitchen, so our students will enjoy cooking. I believe all these give the children an understanding of where our food comes from and help them learn how to cook happily. This is very important for life.

To encourage students to do more exercise, our school has done a lot. First, our school makes changes to the amount of physical exercise during the day. We ask students to do physical exercise twice a day. We also plan different play times during the day for the students so the play ground is less crowded. And the children can run around safely. What's more, we buy many sports things such as basketballs, footballs and volleyballs to let the students play sports in their free time.

In fact, just keeping students healthy is not enough. Some of our teachers joined the Frankley Fun Run this summer for the first time and started a training program in order to get fit. We even have some parents show an interest in doing the exercise as well.

An earthquake hit our hometown 12 years ago. The earthquake was so serious  I can still remember it clearly now.

It was a sunny afternoon. My son  himself when he was playing football, and I took him to the hospital. At that time, we were waiting our turn. , I heard a loud noise. Then everything started to shake. People were running and shouting  help. I quickly grabbed (抓紧)  son and then stayed under the front desk.

The shake lasted for about two minutes. After the earth stopped shaking, the noise  down. Everyone was  shocked and could hardly speak. However, we soon realized that we should get out of the building as quickly as possible because we were on  second floor.

We brought everyone together and walked to the first floor in . I noticed large cracks (裂缝) in the walls of the building  we were moving down. It's so scary. Luckily, we made it outside. What a special day! I'll never forget it.
