Teenage life -- better now, or in the past?

Does this situation sound familiar(熟悉)?

You are complaining to your parents about something. Maybe your computer isn't powerful enough to play the latest games. Then you hear. . . 

When I was your age, there weren't any computers or video games. And I didn't get a bike until I was sixteen. And it was secondhand. 

So, is it really true that life is better for teenagers now? It is certainly true that many teenagers have got more things nowadays.  So parents have got more money to spend on each child. And many things are cheaper than they were when our parents were children. 

 Forty years ago, no one could imagine a world with tiny computers and amazing smartphones. And now these things are necessary -- we can't imagine living without them!

However, technology often means we spend more time at home. And often it's just us, with our computer or television. Teenagers don't do enough exercise.  And, although young people still get on well with their friends, some people think teenagers today don't have so many social activities as they did in the past. What do you think? How is teenage life better these days?

As the saying goes," No man is an island. " No one can live completely without others. Good communication skills are very important in our daily life. Here are some tips for good international communication. 

* Smile. Smiling is universal language -- it can be understood everywhere. Make sure you smile and greet others in a friendly way, especially the first time you meet them. Smiling can be a passport to good communication. 

*" Remember other people's names. Make a great effort to do this when you first meet someone new. Then when you meet again, you will easily make that person feel comfortable if you remember his or her name. 

* Find a proper topic. Talk about weather, sports, news or something else that you are both interested in. 

* Be a good listener. People will be happy to talk to you if you listen carefully. One simple way to show you are a good listener is to make eye contact. 

* Keep your promises. Try not to be late if you set the time to meet others. If you have to change your plan or cancel it, let them know ahead of time. People always trust those who keep promises. 

People who know how to communicate with others well are more likely to succeed in their jobs. They will live more happily than others. 

It's not easy growing up. Growing up can be a real "pain" for some of us. We are always doing things that someone else makes us do and aren't allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we are afraid, and sometimes we just don't understand why we can't stay young forever. But we should take a look back on all the hard periods in life with a positive attitude and learn from them. We should realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!

Throughout our lives we are going to face many challenges and pains, but we should never let these obstacles keep us from following our dreams. We must overcome every obstacle one small step at a time. 

As a young girl, my parents forced me to do so many things that I didn't like. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time, I hated music and I also hated them. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music enriched(丰富)my life in so many ways. I now realize that my parents wanted me to have a better life. 

We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just part of our life. Think about how we would feel if we lived a life with no challenges. It would be really boring and meaningless. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat(汗水) never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps(碰撞)on our road to success, we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!
