How to be a person with good manners

As the saying goes, "Manners make the man". A person with good manners behaves politely. As teenagers, what should we do to show good manners?

Do you obey the rules in your school? How do you like your scho olrules? A lot of school rules are similar around the world, but some a redifferent. Every school has their own rules. 

There are some rules in Japanese schools. The students are not allowed to dye(染) their hair and should keep the hair black. They are not allowed to wear earrings, either. Almost all schools required students to wearu niforms in the past but now half of the schools require uniforms. The students fe elhappy to wear all kinds of clothes. The students mustn't be late for school. If they are late, they can't get into the school gate because the school gate is closed. InJap an, students are not allowed to have part-time jobs because they may not concentrate on their study. 

American schools have their own rules. For example, in Morton High School, students are not allowed to choose their own clothes. They must get to school and leave school on time. They must wear sports shoes in gym class. They should keep quiet in the school bus. In America, the students can have part-time jobs in their free time. 

China is an old country with a rich culture. When travelling to China, understanding Chinese c and customs (习俗) is important for you to behave in a good way. 

It's becoming popular for foreigners to be i into Chinese homes. Being invited to a Chinese family's home can be a wonderful and warm e . Chinese people are known to be very welcoming (好客的). When you're invited to a Chinese family's home, make sure that you arrive on time. Don't forget to say good words about s special you like in the house. Gifts are usually given when visiting someone's home or being invited for dinner. Chinese people like to r. fruit or tea in a nice box or basket. 

After some small talk, c the dinner. A Chinese dinner table is a happy place, full of delicious food and conversation. When invited over for dinner, make sure to notice what everybody e is doing and try to do the same. You'd better eat plenty of food to show you're enjoying it. Don't finish off the w. dish, but leave a small amount of food on the plates. It sho ws that the host has prepared enough food. 

For foreigners, Chinese people may be very curious. Chinese people aren't afraid to ask personal questions, even if you've met for the f time. So, don't be surprised to be asked things like your age, your educatio nor your work. You do not have to answer these questions. If you don 'twant to talk about your own life, just explain to them.

When we travel from one country to another, we find people have quite different feelings about food. People often feel what they eat is normal (正常的). 

In most parts of Asia (亚洲), for example, people like rice and meat. In the Middle East, bread is the main part of every meal.  Eating, like so many things we do, becomes a habit which is difficult to change. 

 The English drink tea four or five times every day. Australian sdrink a great deal of beer, and the French drink wine every day. 

As for meat, it is also different. Horsemeat is thought to bede licious in France.  New Zealanders eat sheep meat. The Japanese don't like to eat sheep meat because of its smell. But they enjoy eating uncooked fish. 

  There is very little we can do to change our eating habits. 

Walking back to camp through the swamp (沼泽), Sam wondered whether to tell his father what he had seen.

Every four or five minutes, Sam took his compass( 指南针) out of his pocket and checked his way to make sure he was going in a right direction. Canada is a big place. Much of it is wild land. To get lost in the woods and swamps of western Canada would be a serious matter. As he trudged on, the boy's mind was full of the wonder of what he had seen. Not many people in the world have seen the living place of a Trumpeter Swan. Sam had found one on the lonely pond on this day in spring. He had seen the two great white birds with their long white necks and black bills (黑嘴). 

Nothing he had ever seen before in all his life had made him feel quite the way he felt, on that wild little pond, in the presence of those two large swans. 

They were so much bigger than any bird he had ever seen before. The nest was big, too. The female (雌性) was sitting on eggs; the male walked slowly bac k and forth, guarding her.

When you visit someone's new home for the first time, it 's nice to bring a gift. Housewarming gifts may not be as common as birthday gifts ,but they show one's kindness.

What should be avoided when giving the gift? It's important to bring the right kind of housewarming gift. But how do you choose one? Try not to give very expensive gifts. Usually the price of a housewarming gift shou ldbe between $25 and $50. For example, house plants and picture frames are popular housewarming gifts within this budget. If you don't know the person's taste very well, you'd better not send art or furniture. 

Housewarming gifts are a lovely way to celebrate someone's new home and make their space comfortable and welcome. The next time you vsit a friend's new home, remember to bring a gift and, of course, follow the rul esfor gift-giving. 

"That's hateful (讨厌的)!" My sister Angela said to me." Do you see that lady over there? She is talking with her mouth full." 

I saw a woman eating with some friends. Sure enough, her mouthw as open wide while she laughed and chatted. 

"Kids," Mom said, "I see that you noticed that lady speaking with her mouth full. Did you like what you saw?" 

"No way!" we answered. 

"What is the proper way to eat?" 

"We should keep our mouths closed and only speak after we've swallowed (咽下)," I said. 

"That's right. Can you think of any other proper ways to behave whi leat a restaurant?" 

My sister and I thought for a moment. Then Angela spoke up," I guess we could keep our voices down, so we don't interrupt others." 

"That's a good one, " Mom said. "Anything else?" 

"We can be sure to say kind things to the waiter, like please,an d thank you," I added. Mom laughed, "We know that we are sharing space. Others come to a restaurant to enjoy good food and good times with other people .It's a way of thinking about others, and not just ourselves and what we want." 

Then a waiter brought us our food. We laid napkins on our laps, and thanked the waiter. We enjoyed a quiet conversation. Angela and I felt wonderful.
