Cooking, the art and science of preparing food, is far more than daily housework. We can learn different all at once! The following will explain why cooking should be at school.
Science is everywhere in cooking. When we make bread, the yeast (酵母) eats sugar and makes bubbles of gas. This is biology in action. When we cook meat and it turns brown and smells , that's cool chemistry. Also, think about heating water, which shows how heat moves. It is all about physics.
Cooking avoids wasting money. We need to follow the instructions when we mix materials. Sometimes we have to make some changes to feed more or fewer people. That means doing math. Even buying the required materials at a low cost teaches math.
Food has a lot of history. Pasta didn't start in Italy-it came Asia long ago! Spices (香料) were once traded like gold, and this changed how countries talked to each other. Geography also matters. In hot places, people more different foods than in cold places. Learning about these things helps us how the world works.
Cooking is like a secret . It opens the door to learning many subjects. It's not just about making yummy food. It's also about becoming smarter in lots of ways. Schools should teach cooking it helps students see how everything in learning is connected!

15、 根据语篇内容,按要求回答问题。
How much pocket money do you get from your parents every month? What do you often do with your money?
We asked three British middle school students for their opinions on pocket money.
Ruth Sawyers:
I get 5 pounds every week from my parents. I usually save 1.5 pounds and spend the rest. The two things I usually like to buy with my pocket money are story books and blocks (积木). I don't really think about getting more pocket money. And I even don't talk about pocket money with my friends at school. If some people's parents give them too much pocket money, other children might get jealous (嫉妒的). It's important not to show off what you've got.
Maya Varsani:
I get 6 pounds from my mum and 8 pounds from my dad every month. I try to save and buy presents for my family. Last year, I bought my mum a lipstick (口红) for Mother's Day, which cost 9.5 pounds.
Jimmy Segalow:
My mum gives me 10 pounds a week. She says I can either spend it in the school canteen (餐厅) or she will make me a packed lunch, then I can spend the 10 pounds on whatever I want.
I like trainers (运动鞋). If they cost 50 pounds and I only have 40 pounds, my mum might give me an extra (额外的) 10 pounds. But I have to do some housework instead.
I know that some parents can't afford to give their children much pocket money. So I try not to talk about my pocket money at school.
(1)、How much pocket money does Ruth Sawyers spend every week?(2)、What does Maya Varsani usually do with her pocket money?(3)、 How can Jimmy Segalow get the extra money?(4)、What do Sawyers and Segalow have in common?(5)、 Do you think parents should give their children pocket money? Why? -

Carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) is a greenhouse gas and it is one of the causes of global warming. Trees naturally take in carbon dioxide from the air and store it in their wood. However, when trees die, the stored carbon dioxide is released (释放) back into the air. Scientists have been searching for ways to take carbon dioxide away from the atmosphere (大气层) and safely store it for hundreds of years.
In 2013, a group of researchers designed an experiment to test an ancient method to fight against global warming. Their goal is to prevent the decomposition (分解) of wood and the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burying it underground, which is known as the "wood vaulting (木拱顶)". This method is not only simple, but also costs little. It may reduce up to 10 billion tons of carbon emissions (排放) every year, which means about 20% of the greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere disappear each year.
During the experiment, researchers unexpectedly discovered a 3,775-year-old red cedar tree (红杉树), which was covered with clay (粘土) and was protected well. It only lost about 5% of its carbon, while over 95% of the carbon was kept for nearly 4,000 years. This ancient piece of wood seems to show the "wood vaulting" could really work. Besides, it showed the important role of clay in protecting wood from water, air, and other types of damage.
Although the "wood vaulting" itself cannot solve the problem of global warming, it can be part of the solution. The ▲ provides a natural and economical way to fight against climate change.
(1)、What do we know from Paragraph 1?A. Carbon dioxide is good for the Earth.
B. Dead trees can release carbon dioxide into the air.
C. Trees release carbon dioxide into the air when they grow.
(2)、 When did the researchers start the experiment on the "wood vaulting"?A、About 5 years ago. B、About 7 years ago. C、About 12 years ago.(3)、How might the researchers feel when they find the red cedar tree?A、Sad. B、Worried. C、Pleased.(4)、Which of the following words can be put in ▲ in Paragraph 4?A、protection B、method C、damage(5)、What is the main purpose of the passage?A、To point out that carbon dioxide is the main cause of global warming. B、To offer suggestions on how to fight against global warming. C、To introduce wood vaulting-a natural solution to global warming. -

At 15, Lily was the kind of girl who feared water. It was all because of a childhood accident-falling into a pond and struggling (挣扎) to breathe. Years passed, and the fear remained.
In PE class, while her classmates laughed and jumped into the pool, Lily just sat on the bench. Her teacher, Ms. Carter, noticed her and asked her the reason. Knowing what happened to her, Ms. Carter decided to help Lily.
One weekend, Ms. Carter invited Lily to a swimming club. At first, Lily only dipped (浸) her toes in. Then Ms. Carter encouraged her to hold onto the pool side and kick her legs. "Focus on the movement, not the fear," she said. Each day, Lily challenged herself to do a little more.
During the practice, Lily felt nervous. Her arms flailed (摆), and water filled her mouth. But instead of giving up, she remembered Ms. Carter's words and calmed down. Lily made it back to the surface. From then on, she made slow, small progress.
Months later, Lily surprised everyone. She signed up for the school swimming competition. At the final, as she jumped into the pool, she felt no fear but exhilaration. She swam faster and faster like a fish.
As Lily touched the finishing line, a thought struck her: fear isn't something to be avoided but something to be faced. Just like learning to swim, dealing with challenges requires taking small steps, believing in oneself, and never giving up. The pool once was a fear in her mind, but now it is a place where she found freedom.
