Once upon a time, there was a little horse living with his mother alone on a farm happily. One sunny morning, his mother told him to take some corn to the other side of the river.

Believe it or not, milk tea isn't new at all in China! In ancient (古代) China, most of the milk came from different (area) in the north, while tea grew in the south.

In the Sui and Tang dynasties (朝代), people brought many milk foods to the CentralPlains. When rich people made tea, they began putting one of these milk foods in the tea.They wanted (create) a special taste.

In the Yuan Dynasty, milk tea (become) common. It was a favourite drink in people' s (day) lives at that time. People (usual) bought it in the tea houses.Different from the sweet milk tea we drink today, the milk tea in ancient times was mostly salty.

In the Qing Dynasty, milk tea was not only a drink but an important part court rituals (宫廷仪式). There was special office to make milk tea with its own cows and spring water. The emperors would give milk tea to (they) officials after important activities. Can you guess  was a big fan of milk tea? It was Emperor Qianlong! He enjoyed milk tea  wrote a poem to praise it.

No rules, no order. What may (发生) if there are no rules on the road? Cars and bikes move (快速地) on the road. People cross busy streets anytime, anywhere.Things may be out of order and (危险的)!

Luckily, our real world is not like that. We have rules. These rules keep everyone safe. Red means"stop", green means"go", and yellow means"slow down and be ready to stop". When every person (遵循) the same rules, there are fewer problems.

Different places sometimes have different rules. In the UK and Thailand, people use the left (边;侧) of the road. In the US and China, people (开车) on the right one. But the most important rules, like stopping at a red light, are the same in most places in the world. The (目标) is always the same: safety and order for all.

So, the next time you wait for a green light, remember it's not (只是) a colour. It's a (承诺) we all make to look out for each other.

Once upon a time, a fisherman caught a bottle in his fishing net. When he it,a great cloud came out and changed into a genie!

In December, Lona from the UK, was on a special list.Every year, Cycling UK makes a"100 Women in Cycling" list.Those women and girls encourage others to try cycling.

Lona was the youngest person on the 2024 list. Now she is11 years old. Last week, The Week Junior spoke to Lona and her dad. Lona said her father started her love of bike trips. Two years ago, she did her first big cycle tour with her dad. It was a biking trip over a few days. One of Lona's favourite things about cycling is"seeing different things around her". She loves cycling in the Netherlands because it has lots of cycle lanes (车道).

Lona says if people are nervous about cycling on roads, they should start in parks,and then"slowly build up to smaller roads and then bigger roads". Lona now cycles to school on her own, and is also trying to get her friends to cycle with her. Lona and her father are going to cycle the London-to-Paris bike ride. It takes about a week to finish.Lona decides to carry all of her cycling gear (装备).

"The most important thing about riding bikes is to have fun," Lona says. She thinks more people should cycle because"it gets you outside and it's earth-friendly". Lona also says you can use old bread bags as shoe covers (套子) to keep your feet dry when biking in the rain.

In 1640, a man was ill. He had to end the last trip of his life. Back home, people asked him,"You spent your whole life on the road. Do you regret (懊悔) it?"

"I walked through many wonderful places in China," he answered."People say I'm as great as Zhang Qian and Xuanzang. So I don't regret it at all." This man was Xu Xiake,the greatest traveller in Chinese history.

From an early age, Xu had a dream (梦想) of visiting China's seas and mountains.But at the time, it was very difficult to travel far. This didn't stop him, however. At 22,he started his life's journey (旅行). He travelled for about 30 years, and realized his dream.

Xu discovered many things about geography on his journey. Once, he visited MountHuangshan. People then thought Tiandu Peak was higher than Lianhua Peak. To find out the truth, Xu climbed both peaks. Finally, He found that Lianhua Peak was higher.

Xu recorded his travel experiences in his diary. This is Xu Xiake's Travel Notes.Thanks to this book, we can learn about China around 400 years ago.  "Exploring the unexplored" is the best description of Xu's life.

My Opinion on Growing Pains

Dear Editor,

It is common that we teenagers face growing pains from time to time.

Since 2025, China has carried out a special "Sports and Health Year" activity. This activity encourages everyone to do more sports and care more  their health. From then on,  (school) have organized many kinds of sports events to get students moving and develop their interest in sports.

Doing sports plays important role in our lives. There are many kinds of sports such as running, swimming and playing basketball. It is not  (surprise) that most of the sports can help improve our heart-lung function (心肺功能) and develop our muscles (肌肉).  we take part in team sports, we will build teamwork and friendship as well.

For students, doing sports can also help them study better. When exercising, their brains get more oxygen to help them think more  (clear) in class. The government  (build) more sports centers since 2025. It makes this activity a (success) event. People can go there  (exercise) for free. Let's take action in the "Sports and Health Year" activity and enjoy  (we) every day!

The Hukou Waterfall is a famous natural wonder located between Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces. It is the largest yellow waterfall in the world and the second largest waterfall in China.

Its name, "Hukou", perfectly describes how the wide river suddenly narrows (变窄) and then rushes down. Because of its special location, the area around Hukou has long been an important place for trade and communication among different parts of our country.

The Hukou Waterfall has long played an important role in the history of the Yellow River. The Yellow River is also called China's "Mother River" because it has provided what nearby people need to live: water for life, land for food, and a waterway for transportation.

The scenery of the Hukou changes from spring to winter. From the Shaanxi side, you can get a greater view of how wide the waterfall is. From the Shanxi side, you are closer to the water and can see it falling into the deep valley below. If you want to take the best photos, go to the Shaanxi side in the afternoon. At that time, the sunlight makes the waterfall look even more beautiful.

You may hear about floods, but do you know what to do before, during and after a flood?

 All family members should know the nearest safe place. You can go to a high building or a hill. Prepare enough food, water, warm clothes and a flashlight. Remember useful telephone numbers (119, 120, etc.). Never live in low-lying areas or near rivers if possible.

It is important for each of you to stay calm. If you are indoors, quickly move to the upper floors of the building. Stay away from windows, doors and walls.  Do not touch electrical equipment (设备) with wet hands. If you are outdoors, move to high ground as soon as possible. Stay away from rivers, bridges, low-lying roads and flooded areas. Do not walk or drive through deep water.

After a flood.

Once the water has gone down, do not go back to your home at once.  Check around you and help the people who are in trouble. If your house is badly damaged, you should leave it. Be careful of broken glass and dirty water. Do not drink unboiled water.
