1、阅读下面短文,从短文后所给的A、B、C三个选项中,选出可以填入相应空格的最佳选项。
In front of a family's house, there was a big rock that often tripped people up. One day, the son asked, "Dad, why don't we dig out the1?" The father answered, "That rock has been there since your grandfather's time. It's2, and I don't know how long it would take to dig it out. It can't be moved3. Instead of wasting time trying to move it away, it's better to just be4 when you walk by this rock and let it teach you to think smarter."
Years later, the boy grew up, got married and became a5 himself. One day, his daughter complained (抱怨), "Dad, I really hate that big rock. It often makes me6. Let's ask someone to move it someday." The father said, "No way! That rock is really heavy. If it could be moved, it would have been gone when I was a kid."
The daughter was upset because she'd fallen over many times. So she decided to solve the problems herself. One morning, she poured some water around the rock to make the soil soft and7 for 10 minutes. She thought it would take all day to dig it out, but to her8, it only took a few minutes. The rock wasn't as big as they had thought. They had all been9 by how big it seemed.
This shows that the things that we think are holding us back are often made10 by our own worries. Sometimes, it is the "rocks" in our minds that stop us from discovering new solutions and chances.

How to Find Ideas for Inventions
Do you want to create something new? Here is some simple advice on how to find good ideas.
First, think about things you use every day. Many inventions are not completely new, but better ones of old things. For example, Facebook made social media easier than older sites. You don't need to be an expert. Start with what you know well. If you are good at computers, maybe you can design a helpful app. Remember, small changes can make a big difference.
Next, Is there anything that troubles you or your family? Perhaps you often lose your keys. An invention that solves a common problem can be very useful. Talk to friends about their daily difficulties. Their problems might give you a great idea.
Also, always keep an open mind. Some great inventions come from accidents or silly ideas. Sometimes, The Slinky toy was born when a spring fell off a shelf. The Popsicle (冰棒) was invented by a boy who left his drink outside in winter. So, don't give up on strange ideas. Write them down and think about them later. They might lead to something great.
Finally, remember to observe the world carefully. Improving old things can lead to successful new inventions. Pay close attention to how people use everyday items. Ask questions, stay curious, and try to make things work better.
A. look for small problems around you.
B. Can you make them better or easier to use?
C. mistakes or accidents can help create something wonderful.
D. You should always try to invent something big and important first.
E. Everyone can be an inventor if they just start thinking and trying.

3、Have you ever wondered how the huge and heavy pterosaurs could fly? These big animals lived millions of years ago. Now, researchers from the University of Edinburgh think they have finally found the answer.
Pterosaurs had long, thin tails with a special fan-shaped part at the end. This part was formed in a very careful way and couldn't be seen by normal eyes. With the help of new laser (激光) technology, Dr. Natalia Jagielska and her team were finally able to uncover its secret. After studying 150-million-year-old pterosaur fossils (化石), they found something shining under the laser light.
The shining thing looked like the supporting part inside an airplane wing. The team believes it helped the tail becomestiff in the wind. Instead of moving like a flag, the tail worked like a sail on a ship. This allowed the animal to fly and turn in the air. A balanced tail was key for their flight control. "This helps us understand how early pterosaurs first flew and why their tails were important," said another scientist who was not in the study.
The research also shows that later pterosaurs lost their tails as their bodies became lighter and their flying skills improved. This discovery helps us learn how flight developed in animals over time. It may also give engineers new ideas to design better planes, drones (无人机), and even tents in the future.

8、As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger as well as success.
Scientists have found out that the radiation (辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of the radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health. The harm of the radiation won't be found until their children even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really effective medicine has been found so far.
Space rubbish is also thought to be a great danger to spacemen. It's reported that there were 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are satellites, 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space rubbish. An explosion (爆炸) in space in 1999 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments (碎片), each at least 4mm in size. A small piece of these even knocked a spaceship window and caused some damage (损坏).
Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working to deal with space rubbish. Although space is really dangerous, it interests many people on the earth. 9、Whether you're starting a new school, moving to a different area or just want to meet more people, any time is a good time for making new friends.
What makes a good friend?
If you're doing something fun or facing a challenge, who would you want with you? Having people who support you and make you smile is important. According to psychologist Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Moore, good friendships feel good most of the time and bring out the best in you. As well as having fun, you can trust each other with your private thoughts and feelings. A key sign of a strong bond is mutual (相互的) acceptance. Good friends accept you for who you are, however bad your jokes may be, and they are also loyal, which means they support and stick up for you when others don't.
Why are they important?
Friendships teach important skills that stay with you. Trying to be a good friend can lead you to talk and explain, rather than shout. When you are with friends, you learn to see things like they do. They also help you understand other people's feelings, which is called empathy. What's more, scientists say that having good friends can help you learn and sleep better.
How can you make friends?
Think about your body language. An easy way to show openness is to smile when you see someone. You could also invite someone to play a game with you, or do something kind, like share a snack. Friendship is a two-way street that grows with time, kindness, and experiences. Start with a smile and see what happens!

For most students, P. E. class is often the happiest part of the school day. While sports are fun, they can sometimes be more dangerous than you think. That's why knowing how to play safely is so important.
Firstly, helmets are a must in many sports. Whether you are biking, skateboarding, or playing football, a helmet protects your head.
Secondly, don't forget to protect your eyes. Sports are the main cause of eye injuries for teens. But wearing proper protective eyewear can cut the risk of serious eye injuries by 90%.
Thirdly, warm up and stretch before any exercise. Never start doing sports without warming up first. Try light activities like jogging, jumping jacks, or high knees for about 10 minutes. Then, do some stretches. Warmed muscles stretch better and are less likely to get injured.
Last but not least, follow the rules. For example, in football, pushing or tripping others is not allowed. Following rules helps everyone enjoy the game safely and fairly.
So, feel the wind, kick the ball, and laugh with friends. Stay safe and have fun—that's what sports are all about!
A. Many people are unwilling to warm up.
B. They are designed to keep all players safe.
C. Your muscles can get hurt if they are not ready.
D. In fact, it can lower the risk of head injury by up to 85%.
E. Playing sports without safety knowledge can lead to accidents.

18、Tala Beach in Qinghai was once a desert with strong winds and little rain. In fact, about 98.5% of the area was covered by sand. Today, it is becoming greener while also producing clean electricity. How did this happen? The secret lies under rows of solar panels (板).
A local herder (牧民), Mr. Li, remembers the difficult past: "Our sheep couldn't find enough grass, so we had to travel far to look for grass." Sandstorms were common, turning the sky dark and making life challenging.
A turning point came in 2011, when large solar farms were built. The area has strong sunlight, which is perfect for producing clean energy. Over the past ten years, the place has grown into one of the largest solar parks in the world. Surprisingly, grass began to grow under the panels. This happened because the panels provide shade, slow down the wind, and help keep water in the soil-creating a better environment for plants.
But the grass grew too tall and blocked sunlight from the panels. Cutting it regularly cost time and money. Then, in 2020, a clever idea was introduced. Why not let sheep eat the grass? Now, over 4,000 "solar sheep" live under the panels. They keep the grass short, and their waste enriches the soil as natural fertilizer (肥料). This improves the land, saves maintenance (维护) costs, and has created over 3,000 jobs for local people since last year.
Thanks to the green energy project, Tala Beach is no longer a desert. It has become an example of how technology and nature can work hand in hand to improve the environment and people's lives.
(1)、How does the writer start the passage?A、By telling a herder's hard life story. B、By showing numbers about the desert. C、By comparing past and present situations. D、By explaining how solar panels make electricity.(2)、Why do plants grow under the solar panels?A、Because people planted them there. B、Because the soil under the panels is dry. C、Because the sunlight under the panels is strong. D、Because the environment under the panels is good for plants.(3)、What does the underlined word "they" in Paragraph 4 refer to?A、Sheep. B、Plants. C、Herders. D、Solar panels.(4)、Which statement is true according to the passage?A、Tala Beach had no plants before. B、Sheep are mainly kept to make fertilizer. C、The solar project helps both nature and people's life. D、Solar panels were built mainly to help plants grow better.(5)、In which part of a newspaper would you find this passage?A、Sports News. B、Environment. C、Science and Technology. D、Business Daily. -
19、Imagine someone who could explain one culture to another, write stories that traveled across oceans, and even invent a machine to bridge language gaps. That person was Lin Yutang-a writer, a translator, and an inventor all in one. His life was filled with curiosity (好奇心) and creativity, bringing East and West closer together.
As a child, Lin often asked questions about life and faith. His desire to understand the world stayed with him throughout his life. He studied first in Shanghai, then continued at Harvard University, and later earned his PhD in Germany. Living in both China and the West, Lin learned about different languages and ways of thinking. This helped him become a cultural bridge between East and West.
Lin worked hard to share Chinese culture with the world. He became a celebrated writer who loved telling stories about Chinese life. In books like My Country and My People, he introduced Chinese ideas and daily life to Western readers. He also wrote novels such as Moment in Peking and A Leaf in the Storm. These stories showed how Chinese people struggled (挣扎) and stayed strong during wartime. He also helped create a Chinese-English dictionary, which made it easier for people around the world to understand Chinese words.
Lin also introduced Western culture to China. In 1924, he helped bring the idea of "humor" to the country. The Chinese word "幽默" was born based on the English word. Lin believed that having a sense of humor showed a kind, open, and wise way of seeing life.
His creativity didn't stop with writing and translation. Facing the challenge of typing Chinese characters, Lin spent years designing a Chinese typewriter. In 1947, his MingKwai typewriter finally came out. It played an important role in language research.

Green Leaf Cafe
• Review by FoodieFan: "A perfect spot for a peaceful afternoon. The coffee is excellent, and the seats by the window are ideal for reading or working. The waiters are friendly but their service speed may slow down during peak (高峰) hours. Their cakes are good, but not the best."
• Review by HealthFirst: "I love their fresh salads which are good for those who want to lose weight! The place is always clean and the background music is relaxing. However, it closes a bit too early at 8 PM, which isn't convenient for late dinners."
Sunset Grill
• Review by MeatLoverTom: "Best steak around! Juicy and full of flavor. The service is very fast and helpful. My only problem is the noise-it can get very loud in the evening, making conversation difficult."
• Review by FamilyGuy: "A great choice for a family meal. They have a wonderful kids' menu and provide coloring books. The food is always delicious, though the prices are a little high. The environment is bright and welcoming."
Spice Heaven
• Review by CurryQueen: "If you enjoy strong flavors, this is the place! Their spicy curry, is amazing. The restaurant looks colorful and interesting. However, the service can be unfriendly at times, and the tables are placed too close to each other."
The Harbor View
• Review by SeasideLover: "The biggest advantage is the amazing view of the sea, especially at sunset. The seafood is fresh and well-cooked. However, as a high-end restaurant, the prices are much higher than those of others, and the place feels quite formal for a simple meal."
