They were heading for the coast, where they could catch a boat to France. But they were also heading straight for trouble.

A certain kind of ants, for example, can count their steps to stop themselves from getting lost. They can go as far as 110 metres and bring food home. These ants live in the open desert, so they have nothing to guide them along the way. It's like someone walking six kilometres through a dark forest.

Studying amazing animals like the octopus is important because we can learn a lot from them. But they also show us how wonderful nature is and why it is important to protect it!

Hello! I'm Joseph, a 12-year-old schoolboy from Manchester—a city full of buses, cars, busy people and tall buildings. Last weekend, I went on a school trip to a large farm near my city, and it turned out to be the best day of my life!

We took a 40-minute bus ride to the farm. When we arrived, a friendly brown dog ran over to greet us, and I was amazed by the sight of green fields everywhere—nothing like the crowded city I live in!

First, we visited the grass field. There were hundreds of sheep eating grass, and I saw a baby lamb staying close to its mom. That was so cute! Then, we went to the cow barn—the farmers let us milk the cows. After milking, we also petted the calves and playful goats. One of the goats even licked my hand! But the most exciting part of the trip was horse-riding. I've loved horses since I was little, so when I climbed onto Daisy, a gentle brown horse, I felt so happy. We walked slowly around the field, and the wind blew through my hair. It was such an amazing experience, and I hoped that I would be a better rider someday.

At dinner, we had crispy pork chops, juicy beefsteak, and fresh farm milk (which tasted so much better than city milk). The food was so yummy, and it made me feel really close to nature.

As the day ended and we rode back to Manchester, the streets felt louder and busier than ever. I didn't want to leave the farm—where everything smelled like fresh grass and happiness. It truly was the best day of my life, and I will never forget it.
