Many people keep pets in their homes and see them as their family members. Dogs and cats are probably the most common pets. A report shows that among pet owners (主人), 27% keep dogs; 12% keep cats; 17% keep both of them. What happens when dogs and cats live in the same house?

There is a study of 87 pet owners. All of them keep both dogs and cats. The results of the study are quite interesting. Most of the owners' dogs and cats get on well (相处融洽) together. Cats often spend time quietly and stay away from dogs. However, dogs often try to show friendly acts.

Only 4% of the owners say their pets run after or fight with each other. This happens mainly because of food. Cats are more tolerant, and 37% of them even let dogs eat from their food plates. 6% of cats will guard (保卫) their food, while 7% will make angry sounds when dogs come near, and 4% will drive dogs away. However, only 23% of dogs share their food with cats. 18% will drive cats away and 12% will make loud sounds when cats try to eat their food.

The dog and the cat also act differently when they stay with their owner. The cat usually takes no notice of the owner and keeps to itself, while the dog often gets close to the owner, hoping the owner can notice it. To get more love and care from the owner, the dog may even try to drive the cat away.

Although dogs and cats might not become best friends, these two different animals can still find ways to share the same home peacefully.

Tianzhu Mountain in China is famous for its high cliffs (悬崖) and amazing sights. But keeping this mountain clean is not easy. Tourists throw rubbish on the cliffs. Every day, a group of workers pick up the rubbish. They are famous as the "cliffside cleaners".

Tu Yousheng is one of them. He started to work here over 20 years ago. Every morning, he uses safety ropes, takes a rubbish bag, and climbs down the cliffs. The wind is strong and the rocks are huge, but he carefully picks up every piece of rubbish. Sometimes, rubbish gets caught between rocks. He has to work hard to pull it out.

Tu grew up near Tianzhu Mountain. He loves it like his home. "This job is ________, but someone has to do it," he says. Over 20 years, Tu has climbed 2,800 km—as far as from Beijing to Urumqi! His team works in hot summers and cold winters but never stops.

Besides (除了) cleaning, Tu also teaches tourists about taking care of nature. When he sees tourists litter, he never shouts at them. Instead, he kindly asks them to stop and explains why it is important to keep nature clean. Many visitors listen to him and even offer (主动) to help clean up.

Thanks to these cleaners, Tianzhu Mountain stays beautiful. Their hard work reminds us to care for nature. Next time you travel somewhere, remember not to drop litter.
