Do you know the boy in the picture? His name is Kuang Heng. He  (live) in China over 2,000 years ago. From the picture, we can  (see) he wore old clothes and sat on the ground with many books. Light came through a small hole (洞) in the wall. He was reading  (careful).

This is a famous Chinese story. Kuang Heng was born in the poor family. He really liked  (read), but he was too poor to buy a candle. One day, he found his neighbor (邻居) had candles, so he dug (凿) a hole in the wall to borrow light from his  (neighbor) house to read at night. From then on, he worked at daytime and read  (book) at night. Finally, he became a famous scholar (学者). The story  (tell) us that no matter how difficult it is, we should keep studying hard and never give up.

Climbing a tree is usually a game for children in the countryside. But Xuezheng Primary School in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province made it part of its lessons.

The school opened a tree climbing class in September 2022. "When the students first started climbing the trees, they were afraid. But after a few more tries, they fell in love with the sport. And some students even climbed to the top of the tree, over 8 meters high!" said Chen Yang, a PE teacher.

Tree climbing classes are popular not only with children but also with parents. "Some parents are also interested in climbing trees. They even hope to open a parent-child tree climbing class," said Liu Shifan, another teacher.

In fact, such tree climbing classes are popular around the world. Cornell University in the US was the first to come up with the college tree climbing class. The class came to our country in 2006. In 2012, Xiamen University first opened a tree climbing class.

Tree climbing classes not only bring fun to students but also teach them important life skills. By learning to climb trees safely, children build courage (勇气) and confidence (信心) while staying close to nature.

Breakfast

The breakfast time in China is usually from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Most Chinese students have class at 8 a.m.  Youtiao baozi, bread, milk and tea are the common breakfast. People of Guangdong enjoy a long breakfast time in big restaurants. 

Lunch

Lunch time is usually around 12 o' clock. Most Chinese have a quick but healthy lunch so they can have time to take a short rest. The menu for lunch is usually noodles or rice with some vegetables and meat.  They usually eat at school or the company dining hall. And some people take their lunch box from home.

Dinner

Dinner is the most important meal for many Chinese because they enjoy it with their family. The dishes are usually soup, meat, vegetables and rice.  For restaurants, the busy time is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. In snack streets, there are snacks like noodles or dumplings at night. There is one interesting thing in China. People don't leave the restaurants very quickly after dinner. They usually spend some time talking with each other.

Hello! I'm Lisa, a Grade 7 student from England. There is a special garden in my school. It's behind the science building. There are all kinds of flowers in it. Every spring, the garden becomes a colorful world.

Our school organizes a "Flower-watching and Gardening" activity every year. Students from different grades take part in it. The students in Grade 7 need to water the flowers. The students in Grade 8 help cut the branches. And the students in Grade 9 record the growth process of the flowers with teachers.

Country music is a kind of American popular music. People also call it country and Western music. It first came from the west and the south of America in the early 1920s. Nashville in Tennessee was once the home of American country music. It became popular in the 1940s. 

In the American West, cowboys had to watch the cattle (牛) all day long because they sometimes ran away. When the cowboys were alone with the cattle, they drank strong coffee to stay awake and sang to make the cattle quiet. The cowboys also sang to relax and have a good time. They sang about the stars and the moon, their families and their friends. Sometimes they played the guitar, the violin or other instruments (乐器). 

In the American South, many people came from Ireland, Scotland, and England. They enjoyed their own kind of music. They used instruments like the guitar and the violin too. They also used instruments from their homes like spoons. When they visited their families and friends on holidays, they usually sang and played music together. 

Country music has been popular for more than 100 years. One important reason for its popularity (流行) is that it describes life. It talks about love, jobs, home and so on. Everyone knows something about these ideas. Many fans of the music in the world like to wear cowboy clothes and dance together. Many bands all over the world now play the music. 

Everyone can do something to make our society develop well. Being a volunteer is a good way. 

Volunteer for the old.

You can go to the old people's homes to offer them your care.  And you may find that they are more talented and experienced than your friends and classmates. 

Volunteer in a nursing home.

 You can look after them and make friends with them. In fact, having sick people around you will make you look at situations in a different way, and embrace (拥抱) the beauty and joy of life. 

Volunteer to teach English.

English is widely used. If you are good at English, you can provide your service for those who would like to learn.  As for the place, it can be in an English club or a study center. 

If you are an animal lover, you can adopt (收养) street dogs or cats. If you don't want to keep a pet, you can give away some money or pay a visit to an animal hospital to look after the lovely animals. 

Lending a hand in helping is a good way to build our society. You can choose one of them to make a great difference.

In a clear water box, fish are swimming happily. Wait a second: look closer at that blue one. It is actually a robot!

This scene happened at the World Digital Education Conference on May 14^th in Wuhan, Hubei province. There were red and yellow robotic fish, too. Scientists at Wuhan University made them. 

At about 53 centimeters long, the fish were very lifelike. Their heads and tails were made in a special way to let the fish move fast and easily. This is thanks to bionic engineering (仿生工程), which brings together nature and man-made things. 

The pretty colors of the bionic fish come from the LED lights on their bodies. These lights can give the underwater world a party feel. 

"I love to see the bionic fish," Professor James Crabbe from Oxford University said. "It could tell us some information about fish swarming (鱼群聚集) and how fish live."

Swarming in fish means they swim together in large groups. It helps them stay safe, find food and save energy (能量). Learning about swarming helps us understand how fish live and how changes in the environment matter to them. 

What's more, the bionic fish are smart. With the help of AI and sensors (传感器), they can "see" things in their way. The fish are already helping in the study of the Yangtze River's water to help protect the environment.
