U. S. tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a "big step forward", proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools. As a DeepSeek engineer said, "We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use. " With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.

A Cleaner,Cheaper Car?

There are already a lot of electric cars on the road. Someday, they may be great.  Some electric cars run on gasoline part of the time. So they still dirty the air. Also, someday they might cost less, but now most electric cars cost a lot of money. 

Many of today's electric cars run on batteries.  The driver has to wait for the batteries to be charged up before using the car again. And if a driver is away from home, he or she may have a hard time finding a place to plug in the car to recharge. 

A Faster Car?

Some inventors think that a flying car is a great idea.  If driving on the road is too slow, these cars will rise up in the air. Someday, there may be a lot of flying cars. Could that lead to traffic jams in the sky?

A Safer Car?

 But some inventors think that cars would be safer if they drove themselves. They say that people usually make mistakes but a self-driving car would not. 

At least one company is getting ready to sell cars that drive themselves.  But not everyone is ready to accept that a machine would be a better driver than a human. 

Someday, there may even be self-driving cars that can also fly and run on electricity. That could solve a lot of problems!

④Another problem is space. Most aircraft need long runways to take off and land. Lifting straight up and down like a helicopter solves this problem. But eVTOLs still need special spaces, called vertiports, for take-off and landing. Finding places to put these could be tricky, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could go on top of buildings.

Lumi learns by studying many songs. It looks at how they are built and how they sound. At first, the music Lumi makes might not sound very smooth. But as it learns more, the music gets better. ChatGPT helps Lumi understand what kind of music people want, so it can make those that many people will enjoy. 

Lumi is still being tested and is not perfect yet. Sometimes it has trouble with difficult music. For example, the drums and piano might not match well, or the melody might be too simple. Even with these problems, Lumi is an exciting step forward for AI. It shows a future where AI can make amazing and different music, changing how we enjoy sound.

On January 28, 2025, a special performance called Yang BOT amazed audiences (观众) at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China's most-watched TV show. Directed by the famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese yangko (秧歌) dance with modern robot technology. 

In the performance, humanoid robots (robots shaped like humans) dressed in colorful costumes danced yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They spun (旋转) handkerchiefs and made creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree, a Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree's first success—in 2021, their robot cows named "Ben Ben"  danced as backup for singer Andy Lau. 

The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation (激光导航仪器) to move safely on the uneven (不平坦的) stage. Their strong joints (关节) helped them balance (平衡) perfectly during fast steps. Zhang Yimou explained, "This dance isn't just fun—it shows how technology can bring new life to traditions. "

Thanks to these innovations, the robots won the hearts of millions. On social media, topics like "Robot Yangko" trended quickly. Young viewers called it "cool", while older audiences loved its humor and festive spirit. 

The Yang BOT program is a perfect mix of China's tech progress and cultural pride. As one fan said, "It's like watching the past and future dance together!"

At Shanghai Renji Hospital's AI Clinic, patients receive 24/7 service. The system analyzes symptoms through voice descriptions and smartwatch data, achieving 93% diagnosis accuracy for 200+ diseases. Dr. Chen demonstrated: "A patient saying 'chest pain and sweating' triggered an immediate heart attack alert. " AI also assists surgeries—the "RoboDoc" steady-hand system reduced operation time by 40%. However, regulations require human doctors to confirm all AI diagnoses. "Machines lack empathy, " said nurse Li Fang, recalling how an AI failed to notice a patient's anxiety. Future plans include emotion-reading cameras and ethics training for AI systems.
