There were five of us in my group, and it wasn't easy to decide which museum we wanted to go to. Mr. Breen encouraged us to make one idea each. We were surprised how easy it was. We had five ideas, but everybodywas very impressed with Tom's idea. He wanted us to visit the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in the north of Spain, and when he showed us the website, we all knew it was "our place".

The building was made by American architect Frank Gehry in 1997, and it's fantastic. The website says it covers an area of 24,000 m², of which 11,000 m² are all exhibition (展览) space. It took us about two hours to visit the different parts of the website, and we all loved the photos of the building. The part we liked best was called Explore. It shows many wonderful photos of sculptures (雕刻) and other pieces of art from the different exhibitions.

When the project (项目) was finished, Mia, one girl from our group, described how we all felt. She said that the project was amazing, but what we'd really like to do now is to visit the Guggenheim in Bilbao!

TheMarmot

Marmots are one of the ancient animals. Some of them have been on the earth （自从）the Ice Age. They have round bodies, small ears and thick fur. 

Marmots are active during the day. They like to stay （在外面）, especially in the morning and afternoon. Many of them enjoy （躺）in the sun and then look for food. Marmots eat grass and leaves. They use front feet like hands to hold food. However, it's not a good idea to feed them. We may be（咬）by marmots if we stand too close to them. 

Marmots usually live in groups. However, some live by（它们目已）. If marmots meet danger, they will hide in holes and use loud sounds to（警告）others. 

In winter, it's so cold that some marmots sleep for months to save energy. When  （春天） comes, baby marmots are born. Some kinds of marmots can live up to （十三）or fifteen years. 

Marmots play an important role in nature. They can build homes for other（野生的）animals and spread seeds. They keep the natural world healthy!

Every summer, our swim team runs a snack shop to raise money for competitions. Last month, Coach Abby said it would be closed for repairs. That meant no more 1 for us!

Global warming makes it harder for food crops to grow. But here comes the exciting news. Dr Katherine Meacham-Hensold and her team members from the University of Essex have produced something amazing——super potatoes, which grow well in the warm weather. 

As we know, the potato is one of the most important food crops in the world, right after the main crop rice. Also, the potato's growth can easily be affected（影响）by the higher temperature. That's why the production（生产；产量）of super potatoes becomes so important. 

To produce super potatoes, scientists did research at a farm. They set up two groups: one group used common potatoes, while the potatoes in the other group were genetically modified（基因改造）with two special genes（基因）. By adding these two genes, scientists could change the growth of the potatoes. At the same time, the potatoes got more energy for growth. The scientists tested the two groups of potatoes by growing both of them at a temperature 3℃ above the average. 

Scientists were surprised to find that, under this condition, the potatoes with two special genes produced 30%more than common ones. The process didn't affect the potatoes' taste. What's more, the potatoes could provide the same nutrients（营养物）for living things to grow. 

"It is important to grow crops that can survive the climate change. " Dr Katherine said. As a result, people can grow super potatoes in places most at risk from global warming. 

The super potato research turned out to be meaningful. In the future, scientists will try growing more potatoes in different places to see how new environments affect their growth. Besides, the team also hope to change other crops to fight against global warming. 

One morning, Patricia was taking a walk on the busy road Estrella Parkway near her home. A car suddenly appeared and rushed past her. Luckily, she was not hurt, but the car came"very, very close, " Patricia said. 

Patricia and her grandson, William, often walk together on Estrella Parkway. However, there were lots of cars racing on that road. When William went to visit Patricia that evening, she told him what happened. After William heard Patricia was nearly hit by a car, he thought it was time to do something to fix that. 

In January 2024, William decided to go to the city council（市议会）hall. The council meetings are open to the public. When it was his turn to speak, William stood up and spoke about the problem of car racing on Estrella Parkway. "It's very dangerous, " he said, "I wonder if you have any way to solve it. "

In fact, the local government already planned to install（安装）traffic lights on Estrella Parkway. After William gave the speech at the meeting, it brought more attention to the need for safer roads. About six months after the council meeting, a new traffic light was put up and began working. 

Stories about William's efforts also appeared on the local news and national TV. People were all encouraged by his speech. William also received a city award for his efforts to improve the local community. "After that happened, I felt like I could do anything. " William said. "I'm not sure what community problems to solve next, "he added, "I' ll keep exploring. "

For now, William is happy with the changes on Estrella Parkway. "You don't see cars racing each other to the end of the road and it feels much safer, " he said.

Many flowers have petals（花瓣）in the Fibonacci numbers. For example the lily usually has 3 petals. The rose has 5 and the delphinium has 8. The numbers 3, 5 and 8 are part of the Fibonacci numbers. When bees build their houses, they also follow the sequence. The number of bee cells（蜂房）in each row often matches the Fibonacci numbers like 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…

▲ We know painters like to use special shapes in their paintings. With the Fibonacci sequence in artworks, artists can create perfect designs. For example, the famous work the Mona Lisa follows the Golden Ratio. For musicians, they use the Fibonacci sequence to create certain musical effects. It is said the Fibonacci sequence can help control the number of beats in each part. Next time, count the beats in your favourite song——is it 5, 8 or 13 beats? It's math that makes music sound great!
