Why do we still read books written hundreds of years ago? Literature is like a time machine that allows us to travel back to different worlds. 

For example, when you read Journey to the West, you are not just reading a story about a monkey king. You are learning about ancient Chinese values like bravery and honesty.

 In Western literature, books like Robinson Crusoe tell stories of people who use their wisdom to survive on an island. While Chinese stories often stress the importance of working together, many Western classics focus more on individual (个人的) courage.  By reading books from different countries, we can understand how people around the world think differently.

Great stories also share something in common.  Whether it is a Chinese fairy tale or a British novel, they all talk about love, friendship, and the fight between good and evil (恶). This is why a student in China can still be moved by the stories of Hans Christian Andersen from Denmark.

Today, many young people prefer watching movies to reading original (原版) books.  Movies can show us beautiful pictures, but they cannot replace the deep thoughts and feelings that come from words. As the famous saying goes, "A classic is a book that people praise but never stop reading."

Have you ever felt your mind go "blank" (空白) after playing on your phone for hours? If yes, you certainly  it before. It is called "brain rot (脑腐)"!

The term "brain rot" was first used in 1854, but today it describes what happens  we spend too much time online — especially on short videos or social apps. In 2024, Oxford even named it a hot Word of the Year because so many people were talking about it.

What does brain rot feel like? You might forget  why you walked into a room or look for your phone while holding it! More seriously, it can make it harder  clearly, solve problems, or stay calm. Your mood might change quickly from happy to upset  any clear reasons.

Good news: you don't need medicine to fix it! It is not a  illness. In fact, you can fix it by  your screen time. Try going offline for a few hours. Read a real book (not a 3-minute video summary!), play sports, or chat face-to-face with friends. These simple  can slowly free your brain from tiredness.

Treat your brain as a garden. If you water it with good things, such as getting enough sleep, reading paper books and having face-to-face talks, you will get the  of strong and healthy mind. And soon, flowers of creativity, focus and joy will come out.

"Put on your winter coat! You'll catch a cold!" I don't know how many times my mom said this to me when I was a kid. I'd often go outside, even during cold winter months, wearing just a light jacket.

Of course, the idea that cold weather can make you sick is not completely true. After all, the things that really make you sick are germs and viruses (病毒). But I have noticed that in China, people always make sure to wear lots of clothes when it's cold outside.

Since I came to China, many strangers, especially elderly people, have asked me why I don't wear more. They think I wear too little during the winter.

I guess this might have something to do with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) beliefs (信仰). There is a TCM term called yuanqi, which means the basic energy that helps one's body work and stay healthy. Anything that uses too much of this energy is not good. If you don't wear enough clothing in cold weather, your body will have to use more energy to keep you warm. So Chinese people wear more clothes to stay warm and save energy.

But I still don't like to wear too much clothing, even when it's cold. I get hot very easily—I even sweat (汗) during winter months if my coat is too warm. I haven't got sick because of this yet, so I don't think I need to worry too much.

Amy, 15, loved reading her first-aid book. One day, while walking down the road, she saw Roy, a boy in this village, trying to stand on a horse's back. Suddenly, Roy fell heavily to the ground. The other kids ran towards him and didn't know what to do. Amy rushed over and saw that one of his legs was out of shape—a broken leg!

Autism (自闭症) is a natural brain difference. People with autism have trouble understanding others' feelings, so they are a special group  of our care and respect.

Many kind people try their best to  to autistic people. Dr. Sushama is one of them. She has run a charity in India. It has served over 800 autistic people. She also opened Café Arpan. There autistic people learn , like making coffee, and serving meals. Most importantly, they get confidence and new chances in life.

Lots of people have  this warm café till now. Many volunteers come to offer help, and plenty of students have donated  to support the project. Dr. Sushama believes everyone can be useful. Over the years, her work has brought autistic people jobs, joy, respect and a strong sense of belonging.
