Why are dogs our best friends? Because they are friendly and loyal. They are great for many families and can help you in many ways.

When you have a dog, you need to walk and feed it every day. This gives you exercise—you can even run or play with it when walking.

If you have kids, a dog can help them learn responsibility (责任). You can let your kids do small jobs, like giving food to the dog or walking it. They will learn to be more responsible. They know you trust (信任) them, so they will be happy to look after the dog.

A dog can protect (保护) your home. At night, dogs often sleep near the door to keep your house safe. If they see something strange, they will bark (叫) loudly or run to you. This lets you know something may be wrong outside.

Life can be hard sometimes, but dogs help us feel happy. They make many families warmer, even without kids. Every family can have an animal friend, and a dog is one of the best.

Many schools have their classes at the museum. "About 100 schools work with us. They bring their students here. Reciting (背诵) poems is often difficult and boring for students. To make it easy and fun, we give reports about poems and have shows of famous poems. We also teach students to write calligraphy (书法)," says Dong, a man from the museum.

The museum also makes plays (戏剧) about those poems and asks students to act (表演) in the plays. Students recite poems in the plays and get the meaning of the poems better.

Village students love the museum, too. It gives shows about the poems on a bus. The bus is like a moving museum and it travels to villages far from the museum.

The museum brings history to students' lives and makes it so fun. That's why students have a great love for the museum. Would you like to visit it too? You're sure to love it.

In the kittens' room, a small white kitten is sitting in the corner (角落). "Her name is Coco. She's scared of people and doesn't like strangers (陌生人)," Mr. Green tells her. Lily sits down quietly and takes out some cat snacks. "Don't be afraid, Coco," she says gently. Slowly, Coco walks over and eats the snacks. Lily is very happy!

At noon, Lily helps clean the animal rooms carefully. Just then, a family comes into the animal home. A little boy sees Coco and says, "She's so lovely! Can we play with her?" Lily takes Coco out. Our shopping list has many things. We need to buy bread, milk and eggs for breakfast. For fruit, we want apples and pears—they are easy to carry. We also need some tomatoes and potatoes to make a salad. Lucy likes sweet food, so she asks to add some cookies and chocolate to the list. My mom says a shopping list is very useful. It helps us not to forget anything and buy things we really need. I will help carry the bags, and Lucy will help buy fresh fruit. We are all happy because we know the picnic will be great with these nice things.

On November 26, 2025, at about 2:51 pm, a terrible fire broke out in a home building in

Hong Kong when most people (work).The fire, which began from scaffolding （脚手 架 ） outside the building, grew very quickly. In hours, it became a level-5 fire, the second (bad) level in Hong Kong's alarm system.

Strong winds (spread) the fire to seven nearby buildings. The old scaffolding and green building nets helped the fire burn even stronger. The great heat made rescue(救援) work very (hard). Some people were caught on higher floors, and rescue teams could not reach them right away. , rescue workers kept (talk) to those trapped by fire, giving them comfort and advice during this difficult time. Sadly, the fire  (cause) 94 deaths so far. A 37-year-old fire- fighter died while fighting the fire.

In our daily life，we are often kind to others，while sometimes we forget to be kind to

ourselves.In fact，it's important to treat yourself kindly.But the question is how to do that. Here are four pieces of advice.

First，accept that nobody is perfect. When you make mistakes，don't be strict with yourself.Think about how you'll comfort your friend in the same situation.So why not treat yourself in the same way？

Learning new things takes time.If you find a subject difficult，don't worry about it.Tell yourself that it's okay to take small steps.

Third，take care of your body and mind. Besides physical health，your mind should be paid attention to.When you feel stressed，take a deep breath or listen to music.These simple actions show that you are kind to yourself.

Lastly， encourage yourself with kind words.If you fail an exam or don't do well in something，don't lose heart.You can say "I can do this."or "I'm doing my best." 

To tell the truth，being kind to yourself isn't selfish.It helps you grow and be happier.When you're kind to yourself，you can also be a better friend to others.

What else can you think of to be kind to yourself ? 

Most of us cannot imagine modern life without social media.We use it almost every day in order to keep up with what is happening in our friends' lives or find out the latest information.Although it has a bad influence if we don't use it properly，social media has done more good than harm.

The greatest advantage is that we can connect with people much more easily.We are still able to keep in touch with our friends if they are far away.With social media，friendship goes beyond geography.We're able to find friends old and new.Also，it makes it easier for us to make friends， especially for those who are afraid of making friends face to face.Are you shy？If yes，social media has probably helped.

Social media is also ideal for making yourself heard.Anyone with a voice can express it.Anyone with a talent is free to show it.Everyone is the new content creator.Moreover，anyone with a smartphone and the Internet can be a reporter.As a result，it has become much faster to cover the news than ever before.

Social media，on the other hand，can make us less confident sometimes.A study published by the Public Library of Science，found that the more a person uses social media，the sadder he feels about his own life.One reason for this is that people around us put colourful information and perfect pictures online in order to show off their best moment.So we often get a distorted sense of how wonderful their lives are compared to our own.

Social media does not cause sadness；it simply provides another tool for us to use.Is it good or bad？Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai says,"What is interesting is the power and influence of social media .We must try to use social media in a good way." After all，you decide how you use this powerful tool.

H:Hey, Jack. How do you like living in Taiwan Island of China so far?

J:I love it, except I don't like the frequent earthquakes that happen here.

J: OK. It would probably be a good idea to prepare an emergency kit ,too.

H: Yes. A kit should include flashlights, a first aid kit, bottled water, and dry food in a bag.

Then keep the kit close to the door. In the event of an earthquake, you can easily take the emergency kit as you run out.

J: How do you prepare for an earthquake when you're travelling?

H: When you stay in a hotel, make sure you know the evacuation routes and where the emergency exits are on your floor.

The grasshopper（蚱蜢） loved making music. All summer, he sat under a big shady flower, playing tunes with his fiddle（小提琴），while the ants passed hurriedly, collecting grain and taking it to their winter store.

"Come and relax, and listen to my music," the grasshopper called to the ants. But they just smiled, and said, "Sorry, Grasshopper. We have so much to do."Then autumn came.Now the ants were busy drying out the grain that they had stored up during the summer. "Hey, ants, " the grasshopper called. "Come and dance while the sun is still shining."But the ants just bustled around.

Down and down came the snow. The grasshopper grew colder and hungrier. At last, he said to himself, "The ants are my friends and they have big winter stores. I will go and ask them for some food." But the ants all said the same thing,"We're sorry, Grasshopper. We only have enough food for ourselves. We worked all summer and autumn to make a winter store, while you were sitting in the shade making music. Why didn't you make your own winter store?""

"Silly, silly Grasshopper!"the grasshopper said to himself."The ants are right—I should have made myself a winter store. Now how will I live through the winter?"He crouched down in the snow and thought sadly of all the things he would like to eat. Then suddenly, the grasshopper heard a little voice. Looking up, he saw a small ant in the snow. "You always shared your music with us, so now I will share my winter store with you."

"Oh, thank you, thank you!"said the grasshopper. When they arrived at the small ant's home, the whole family welcomed him in. That evening, they shared their dinner with him.

After they had eaten, the small ant said, "So Grasshopper, will you play for us again next summer! I always enjoy your music!" The grasshopper thought for a moment. "You have been very kind to me, Ant. And in the evenings I shall be very happy to play music for you. But during the day, I will be busy too, making myself a winter store!"
