Find a new friend in the new year. That friend is just you! Everyone expects kindness, respect and love from a good friend and you shouldn't have to go far to find them.

How about writing down your good things? You can keep that list and look at it often to remind you that you are amazing. Before you go to bed, think about three things that went well for you that day. This will help you see the positives in your life.

Scientists have found facts that raccoons in the US are changing their appearance as they spend more time near humans. The researchers think it's the start of"domestication（驯化）", which is a type of evolution（进化）. Evolution is how living things change over time to fit into their environment and improve their chances of staying alive, and domestication means changing to fit in with human environments. 

In cities or towns where there are a lot of people, there is often much leftover food in rubbish bins and not many enemies. So wild animals can gradually change to fit into the life here and domesticate themselves. Fully domesticated animals, like dogs and cats, often have smaller teeth, curly tails, short noses and soft ears compared with their wild relatives such as wolves and lions. 

A team of students led by Raffaëla Lesch analyzed almost 20, 000 pictures of raccoons across the US. Their study found that raccoons living in cities had shorter noses than their relatives living in the countryside. This change may be connected with their behavior. Animals that develop gentler behaviors have shorter noses. Lesch says, "Leftover food is really the starter of it all". 

Raccoons are mainly active at night and are known for looking for food from rubbish bins. Getting to bins, which are often near humans, requires raccoons to be quite tame-or be friendly and not scared of humans. As Lesch explains, "All they have to do is stay around us and not be aggressive (有攻击性的), and then they can enjoy a good meal on anything we throw away". 

Some experts think that the signs of domestication, like short noses, help to make animals seem less dangerous or more lovely to humans. However, not all scientists agree with Lesch's study. Although raccoons could ever become truly domesticated, they are still wild animals. 

In a world that is fast and not close online, the Grandma Stand is a reminder of something simple but important: everyone needs to be heard, and there's power in human connection. This activity invites anyone and everyone to stop by, sit for a while, and share a conversation with a"grandma"—wise, warm, and wonderfully understanding. 

As Grandma Nancy recently told CBS News with a smile, "We' re loving people as a rule. " Her words show exactly what makes this project so special: a welcoming space where people of all ages can stop, talk, laugh, or simply be listened to. 

The idea began back in 2012 in New York City, thanks to Mike Matthews. After seeing how a heartfelt chat with his 95-year-old grandmother Eileen lifted a friend's spirits, he knew there was something powerful in grandmotherly warmth. It started as a small booth（摊位）and became a regular Saturday routine of open-hearted dialogue on street corners across the city. 

Even after Eileen died at the amazing age of 102, Matthews thought the world still needed that gentle listening ear. So he brought back the Grandma Stand with a bright purple booth (Eileen's favorite color) and a changing group of grandmas who were ready to give care, encouragement and wise insight. 

In places like McKinney and Texas, the Grandma Stand has become a local highlight (热门地点), drawing neighbors for encouraging and free conversations. Later, the Grandma Stand appears throughout November and December with the goal of bringing people together—especially during times when people might feel lonely or stressed. 

It's a gentle reminder to slow down, hear one another, and remember that kindness is a gift we all can give. 

My cousins were raised in a wealthy family. We loved to go to their house because it was so big and nice. Best of all, it had a fantastic swimming pool. 

One thing that always touched me about my cousins was that they didn't think they were better than anyone else, even though they were rich. The reason was that my Uncle John and Aunt Kate made sure they were not spoiled（溺爱）with gifts. The pool was a perfect example of this. 

One day in the summer, my cousins were bored and hot, so they turned to my Uncle John, "Dad, we' re the only kids in this neighbourhood without a pool. Can we have one?"

"Of course you can!" agreed their father. "A pool it is! It will be started tomorrow. " The kids were amazed to see how easily he said yes. 

Early the next day, my uncle woke up everyone and brought them downstairs. "Come on outside. I have a surprise for you!" he said. "Close your eyes. " They did, and he guided them to the backyard. "Now hold out your hands, " he said. When they opened their eyes, each had a brand-new shovel（铲子）in their hands. 

A look of shock came over their faces. Then, their dad said with a smile, "You can have a pool, but you' re going to have to dig it!"

At first, the digging went slowly. They were tired every day. But as the week passed, they began to see their work take shape. Within ten days, they had the pool completely dug out. Then, the workers came and poured the cement（水泥）. In another week, the pool was fully completed and they had played a part in building it. They were filled with pride!

Years later, one of my cousins joked to me, "I never asked my dad if I could borrow the car because I was afraid I'd have to build it myself!"

Be Positive, Be Hopeful

Some of the most unforgettable moments of my time as a teacher in China happened with a teacup in hand. In my first week in Beijing, a student gave me tea her hometown Yunnan province.And on  my final week in  Shanghai,  a  student brought me  some  green (tea). It was  sent overnight by her father so she could present it  I returned to the United States.

In Chengdu, I sat for tea with my two students in Daci Temple. When I asked them why they washed the cups carefully and poured away the(one) tea, they said their parents always did this.They (simple) followed the tradition. The tradition is not about cleanliness. It is about how a family(connect).

In Quanzhou, my friend and I visited a studio. When we got into it, a husband and wife (make) porcelain(瓷制的) teapots and cups. They invited us (sit)  for tea,  and  we talked for nearly an hour about life, family, and travel. It reminded me that tea is excellent way to bring people together. And then there are the tea houses. You can find them in many places in a city. In a world that moves (fast) than ever, teahouses give people a reason to slow down.

One day, a cat named Wise climbed to the top of a tree and noticed a nest(鸟巢). The nest was newly built and , but it would soon be taken, because summer was near."I' ll take my time,"Wise said.

A week later, Wise  the nest and saw two eggs."Eggs may be good," she thought,"but young birds are better." So, she caught some  to pass the time. As time went on, Wise found five eggs in the nest. Seeing more eggs, she felt hungry. all she wanted now were birds!

When the eggs finally turned into baby birds, Wise was really. However, the birds were too thin."Chubby(胖乎乎的) birds  would  much better," Wise thought, as she watched the father bird feed his young each day.

"Now they must be fat enough!" Wise said to  one day. When she reached the nest, she saw that the young birds had flown away!

As Wise's story shows, may be a good quality, but timing is also key.

Cold weather can make you want to stay indoors, but it's important to keep your body moving.Scientists (建议) that young people should do 60 minutes of exercise a day —— even when it is cold outside.

Keeping moving in the cold (月份) helps you take care of your body and mind. Exercise is good for your feelings. It helps you sleep better and keeps you (健康) all year round.

Spending time outdoors  can  improve  your memory. Exercising  with  friends  can  make  your friendships stronger. Team (运动) will teach you important skills  like working together and solving problems.

So, where do you begin? Before heading out, it's important to be (准备好). Wear warm clothes so that you can move (容易). Warm up indoors and always let an adult know where you' re going. If it's icy or really wet, choose a safe place or exercise (在里面). Don't worry if you don't know what to do. You can start with something simple, like going for a walk with a friend or playing football around.

"Karen, stop playing on the Internet. Clean up the basement(地下室), and then we' ll go to the1 ," Karen' s mom called. Karen didn' t think she was playing.2 , she was painting with a drawing program. Still, she turned off the computer.

A: In 2004, I got a new email address that included my nickname, The Tooth Fairy. About three years later, I got an unusual message. The subject line was"Calum' s tooth". Realizing it was from a worried parent, I decided to help.

Q: Are there any special stories you would like to share?

A: I remember the 6,000th email I got. It was from Ashley, whose son Caden had written the note,"I KNOW IT'S YOU MOM." I wrote back, and she later said that when she sent the email, she didn't even know if anyone would read it.

A: For kids, losing their baby teeth can be scary, and the tooth fairy can make them feel better. By ending the note with"Happy growing up!", I want to remind children that growing up is a happy and exciting part of life.

Most of us have secret gardens, somewhere we can relax and refresh. For me, since I can remember,that world has been books.

Like many children, books first drew me in through their pictures. The books and cartoons I read as a child helped me learn to love colours, and understand lines and drawings.

In time, words became more important. I often found happiness in the school library during my middle school years. It had beautiful wooden shelves with glass doors and inside were all kinds of surprising books. There were old encyclopaedias(百科全书), collections of old magazines, and novels that people had almost forgotten. I loved exploring those shelves and discovering new stories.

In the school holidays there was the mobile library. A grey van(货车) would arrive outside our village on Thursday mornings and it was full of plastic-covered books, from love stories to exciting adventures. Again, I was lucky. My parents loved reading. They gave us only a little pocket money, called"Saturday pennies", but they always made sure we had many new books to read during the summer.

When I was a young boy, I sometimes chose books just to look smart. I wanted people to think Iread serious books. But then something changed. I found that although I had read many books, I didn't really understand many of them. I had finished them quickly and soon forgot about them.

So, bit by bit, I start again. Over the past few years I have begun to reread. Now I'm a patient reader, though. Coming back with an older eye and more life experience, the books that once seemed difficult and boring have become interesting and meaningful. And I know that reading is not about showing off. It is about finding books that truly speak to you.

China's Spring Festival Gala surprised the world this year when robots played kung fu on stage.

The robots, which came from four Chinese robotics companies, performed all kinds of difficult tasks. They took part in a funny play and danced to music with humans. The most exciting part was a set of martial arts(武术) when the robots did runs, jumps, turns and fights with child performers.

Last year, robots stepped onto the same stage for the first time. They could only perform simple dances. Georg Stieler, a robotics expert, explained that the robots' abilities to control their movements and balance have developed so quickly, because the companies focused on using AI software to build robot"brain".

The humanoid(人形) robot technology has developed rapidly in China.  According to  a latest research, China produced 90 percent of the world's humanoid robots last year. It is said that China's humanoid robot sales will continue to rise and reach more than 28,000 units in 2026.

However, the quick development of AI robots has also raised questions for humanity to consider.AI expert Dr Ramesh Srinivasan said the use of humanoid robots in society would"reshape our futures"as people turn to robots and AI as helpers, friends and even family members.

"What will happen if AI controls robots like these?" Dr Srinivasan asked in an interview."Will AIand robots take away human jobs? What if humanoid robots are used in wars? Do we really want this?"

Dr Ramesh Srinivasan said that humans should think more carefully about how to use these humanoid robots properly."For me, the key is to focus again on people and consider how we can use technology to create a better future. After all, everyone needs to feel safe and well taken care of," he said.

Horses have lived with humans for a long time, so they are loyal(忠诚的) partners. Because of this,they are important in many parts of human life. Across different cultures, horses have held special meanings. They have shaped traditions, appeared in ancient stories, and even influenced the way people think today.

In Western traditions, horses stand for power, speed, and freedom. The image(形象) of an American cowboy who is riding across the open land makes people feel a sense of adventure. In European history, soldiers rode horses to fight, so horses were often seen as  symbols of power and honor.

In ancient stories, horses would appear in different forms. In Greek stories, Pegasus was a clever horse with wings that could both run and fly quickly. In Norse stories, there was a famous eight-legged horse called Sleipnir, which was a symbol of courage and magic.

In modern times, horses are still playing important roles in human life. There are many horse competitions, such as the Kentucky Derby and events in the Olympics. Horses are also used in therapy programs to help people with health problems. Their kindness and ability to learn make them  great partners to patients.

As the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac(生肖), the horse means the spirit of being brave and keeping heading forward. People born in the Year of the Horse are often believed to be active and hardworking.

Horses have had a great influence on cultures around the world. Their importance goes beyond history, and people continue to admire them today. Whether in ancient stories or modern sports, horses remain a common symbol of power, loyalty, and freedom.
