Who should be responsible (有责任的) for carbon (碳) pollution? Most people are a part of it, but some take bigger responsibilities than others. According to CNN, the richest people in the US are some of the world's biggest polluters.
When some very rich families make money for just 15 days, they make as much carbon pollution as a poor family might make in all their life. Taylor Swift, for example, is a famous singer who has made some of the most serious pollution of the year. This is because she flew 170 times on her personal plane in 2022, according to Vanity Fair. Those trips could make as much as 800 tons of carbon pollution.
As a new study from the PLOS Climate showed, the richest are responsible for almost half of the planet-heating (升温) pollution in the US. This comes from their big homes and personal planes. It's also from the carbon pollution made by the fossil fuel companies (化石燃料公司) they put money into.
French scientist Lucas Chancel said the next step is to seriously talk about stopping putting money into those industries (行业). "Poor people shouldn't pay much taxes (税) for things they buy like food and clothes. We should make rich people pay more taxes for the industries they put money into that make pollution," Kimberly Nicholas, a teacher at Lund University in Sweden, told CNN.
(1)、How does the writer develop (展开) paragraph 2?A、By using numbers. B、By telling a story. C、By giving an example. D、By sharing an experience.(2)、What do the underlined (划线的) words "those industries" in paragraph 4 refer to (指)?A、Personal plane companies. B、Building companies. C、The fossil fuel companies. D、Food and clothes companies.(3)、Which of the following will Kimberly Nicholas agree with?A、Poor people needn't pay taxes for things they buy. B、Rich people should stop putting money into their industries. C、Poor people needn't be responsible for the serious carbon pollution. D、Rich people should pay more taxes because their industries make pollution.(4)、In which part of a magazine can you read the text?A、Life. B、Science. C、Environment. D、People. -

The subway train arrives at People's Square Station during the morning rush. The doors open, and you head for the escalators (自动扶梯). You keep to the left and walk up the stairs, thinking you'll save valuable seconds and get a little exercise.
But experts have an agreement on this: You're doing it wrong. Although you might get a small advantage, it comes at the cost of other people's time and safety. Getting on an escalator two at a time and standing side by side is the better way.
Escalator companies have long advised against walking on escalators for safety reasons. Passengers (乘客) should, instead, get on, hold on to the handrail and stay careful.
And it can actually save time if all passengers stand two by two on escalators. In 2016, the London Underground ran an experiment at its busy Holborn Station. Some of the station's escalators are 23 meters high. There were always long lines at the bottom, while much of the left side was unused. The researchers found that when 40% of the escalator passengers walked, the average time for the standers to get to the top floor was 138 seconds. For the walkers, it was 46 seconds. When everyone stood, the average time dropped to 59 seconds. For the walkers, that meant losing 13 seconds. But for the standers, it was a 79 second improvement.
So, everyone should stand on escalators. Don't walk, right? Yeah, but it takes a lot of luck for that to happen. Sam Schwartz used to be New York City's traffic police. "In the US, at least, self-interest (自利) guides our behavior everywhere," he said. "You can't just tell people that everybody gets advantages if they all stand on the escalator and expect them to change their behavior."
(1)、Why does the writer mention "People's Square Station" at the beginning?A、To describe the escalators. B、To express care for the passengers. C、To introduce the rush hours of the station. D、To show a situation of walking on the escalators.(2)、What is the right way when you board an escalator according to the experts?A、Keep to the left. B、Walk up the stairs. C、Stand side by side. D、Hold on to the two handrails.(3)、What can we learn from the experiment at Holborn Station in 2016?A、There is no difference between walking and standing. B、It can save 59 seconds for standers when everyone stands. C、Standing on the escalator can save more time than walking. D、Walking on the escalator moves more quickly than standing.(4)、What can we infer from the last paragraph?A、We should try to walk on the escalator. B、It's unlucky to see people walk on the escalator. C、Standing on the escalator is sometimes bad for us. D、It's hard to ask Americans to stand on the escalator. -

Do you like sports? Do you have a favourite sports player? Are you interested in what sports players wear? In fact, a lot of sports fans pay a lot of attention to the clothes that sports players wear. But it is surprising to learn how much technology goes into the sports players' clothes.
Do you wear sunglasses when you go outside? Many sports players like wearing sunglasses for outdoor exercise. In fact, these sunglasses are really smart (智能的). They do much more than keep out the sunlight. They show information on their glasses. For example, sports players wearing smart glasses can watch a map while they are running. This way, they won't be lost. They can also see how fast they are running on the glasses.
There are also different kinds of sports clothing that use technology. For example, smart sports trousers have sensors (传感器). They tell you when your action isn't quite right. Many players wear special sleeping clothes and they help them sleep better. When the people who wear them wake up, they feel really relaxed.
Another cool example is the smart running shoes. These shoes have small smart pieces and sensors in them. When you are running, the sensors can find out if your running way is right or not. And it can give you advice right away through an app on your phone. Also, it can keep a record of how far you run, how fast you run and how many calories (卡路里) you burn each time you run. This helps you carry out your exercise plan better.
These technologies have great uses. I'm sure they will be used more often in the near future and make our life better.
