Volunteering is a wonderful way to help those in need and make the world a better place. It is not only about giving help, but also about gaining happiness and experience for ourselves.

There are many kinds of volunteer work for us to choose from. We can work in nursing homes to look after the elderly. They often feel lonely because their children are busy with work, so we can chat with them, sing songs for them or help them do some housework. We can also help the disabled kids in special schools. We can teach them to draw, read stories to them and encourage them to face life bravely. Besides, we can join charity activities to raise money for the homeless people or the disaster areas.

Many teenagers choose to be volunteers in their free time. They say that volunteering has changed them a lot. Before, some of them were shy and selfish, but after doing voluntary work, they become outgoing and helpful. They learn to share with others and understand the importance of caring about people around them. They also make many new friends who have the same interest in helping others.

Volunteering doesn't need us to have special skills or a lot of money. What we need is a warm heart and a willing hand. Even a small act of kindness can bring light to someone's life. As the saying goes, "Rose given, fragrance in hand." If everyone is willing to give a little help, the world will become a more beautiful and warmer place.

When I was in the eighth grade, my teacher asked us to write an article (文章) about what we would like to do when we grew up. All I could think of was one sentence—I want to help other people! Over the years, I met many difficulties and failures (失败). But I never thought of giving up. I realized that to help other people, I have to help myself first. I encouraged myself after I experienced (经历) failures, and I was happy for myself when I did well.

Finally, my dream really came true. I found a part-time job in a charity (慈善机构). I began to spend my days doing things for people in need. I have a happy life. That doesn't mean that this kind of life is easy, or that my work is always enjoyable. I'm happy because I am doing what I want to do.

Reese Osterberg was born in Fresno County, California. She likes playing baseball and she once 1 about 100 baseball cards.

When she was nine, a big fire happened in her hometown. Lots of people there 2 their homes. Reese was 3 them. She and her family were safely evacuated (被疏散), but they 4 lost all of their objects, including the baseball cards.
