"Hey! Jake, come on! You already have plenty of stones! They are enough!"

In many  eyes, my hobby of collecting stores is strange. But I enjoy it very much. It began last summer. From then on, I started to  the beauty of the world.

One afternoon, I was  along a country read, and the sun was shining brightly. All the stones shone in the sunshine. " How beautiful they are!" I told  . The beauty touched me a lot. For the  time in my life, I watched the common stones for a long time. At that moment, I made a big : I would collect stones!

Stress can be either short-term or long-term. There are three common kinds of stress.

The first is survival stress. When you are in danger, your body prepares to deal with the danger either by fighting it or running from it. When you face this kind of stress, your breath and heartbeat(心跳) will be faster.

Environmental stress is the second kind of stress. It is from the unhappy things you run into in everyday life. For example, loud noises and bad weather can cause stress. They are not dangerous, but they are stressful.

The third one is internal (内部的) stress. This type of stress is not caused by something outside of you. Instead, it is caused by thinking about stressful situations that happened in the past or will happen in the future. For example, if you think it is stressful for you to give a talk in front of lots of people, just thinking about it will bring you stress.

Some short-term stress can be helpful.  However, when stress is long-term, it can cause serious health problems. So, you should learn how to deal with stress in your life, such as deep breathing or asking for help from others.

It was about two o' clock in the early morning. I was sleeping when the unexpected earthquake started. At first, I felt a little shake. Then I heard a loud noise like thunder.

Soon the real noise came. The earth started to shake. People in the nearby blocks shouted in fear. Some people escaped from the building. I tried my best to run out too, but I could not. Outside, people were running in all directions while pieces of glass and bricks(砖块) were falling down. Then the walls began to come down too!

Suddenly, everything disappeared. The community was much quieter than before. And I could not see anything at all. I realized I was trapped (困住). The fear went through my mind, but I told myself to stay calm since I was still alive.

I shouted for help, but no one answered. I started to pull myself slowly through the dark. Luckily,there was just enough space for me to move.

Several hours later, as I was trying to find my way out, I made a discovery. I found a stone and I used it to make some noises to find help. Then I heard shouts from excited people. They quickly moved away the bricks. At last, I saw the bright light. I was saved.

Volunteers Needed!

Trees are important to people and animals. So come to plant trees with us and make our city a beautiful place.

Many students feel sleepy in class after staying up late studying or feel nervous before tests.  Don't worry. Here are some easy tips.

◆Keep a regular sleep time.

 Try to go to bed before 10:30 p. m. and get up at 6:30 a. m. every day. This helps your body' get used to the same time so you won't feel tired easily during the day.

Eat a small healthy snack.

Healthy snacks keep you going during the day. When you're hungry between classes, don't eat junk food. These foods give you energy without making you feel heavy.

It's not good to study without stopping. If you sit at your desk for hours, your eyes and back will feel sore. Every 40 minutes, you can stand up and take short breaks. This relaxes your eyes and mind.

Do 10-minute exercise every day.

You don't need to play sports for a long time. Just walk around your neighborhood after dinner, or do simple moves in your room.

Reading is a habit that has changed my life a lot. When I was a child, I didn't like reading at all. I thought books were 1 and useless. But one day, my mother gave me a book called Wonder. It made me 2 full in love with reading.

How to deal with pressure

Nowadays，many middle school students often feel stressed.

Volunteering is good for others，and it's good for ourselves，too. Therefore，volunteering is also  "a win-win（双赢的） situation". David says，"You feel good    you are helping others，and others feel good because they are getting help. "

That's why he likes to be a volunteer every summer holiday. Of course，that is not the only benefit we can get from    a volunteer. Let's learn more about the    for volunteering. 

When we are volunteering，we can learn more about the world，and we    practice our skills at the same time. For example，   a college student，Henry spent his summer holiday volunteering in a hospital. He chose a hospital in Chinatown so that he could practise    language skills. He also asked the doctors questions and learnt a lot about how to keep    .

Twenty years ago，Yucun Village in Zhejiang Province was a dusty，noisy place. Villagers made money by mining limestone and running cement factories. The hills were scarred，the river ran gray，and the air was hard to breathe. Many villagers fell sick. 

In 2005，a new idea came to the village："Clear waters and lush mountains are as valuable as gold and silver. "The villagers made a difficult decision-they closed the mines and factories. Many lost jobs and worried about the future. 

But they did not give up. They planted trees，cleaned the river，and turned the village into a beautiful place. Today，Yucun is a national model of eco-civilization（生态文明）. Tourists come from all over China to see its green hills，clean streams，and bamboo forests. Villagers now run homestays，sell organic tea，and lead nature tours. In 2025，the village's tourism income reached 80 million yuan-far more than they ever earned from mining. 

"We learned that you don't have to destroy nature to get rich，"said Mr. Bao，a former miner who now runs a popular homestay. "Nature gives us everything-clean water，fresh air，beautiful views. We just need to take care of it. "

Yucun's story has inspired thousands of villages across China. It proves that living with nature is not a sacrifice（牺牲）-it is a smarter，happier way to live. 

On Mount Qomolangma，where air is thin and temperatures never rise above freezing，life is almost impossible. Yet Chinese scientists have achieved something amazing：they have grown a flowering plant at 6，100 meters above sea level. 

The plant is Saussurea gnaphalodes（雪莲花的一种），a rare species that naturally grows only in the Himalayas. In 2024，a research team led by Dr. Zhang Wei placed specially designed mini-greenhouses at very high places. Inside，they planted seeds collected from lower slopes（山坡）. 

For months，the team fought against strong winds，very cold，and low oxygen. They used solar-powered heaters to keep the soil just above freezing. In August 2024，the first purple flower came out-a tiny but powerful sign of life. 

"This shows how resilient（顽强的/坚韧的） nature can be，but also how fragile，"Dr. Zhang said. "As the climate warms，high-altitude plants are in danger. By learning to grow them ， we can protect them from dying out. "

The achievement has drawn international attention. Scientists say it opens new possibilities for repairing damaged mountain ecosystems（生态系统）. For young people，it is a lesson in patience，curiosity，and respect for nature. "We do not control nature. "Dr. Zhang added.
