Imagine a world without texts or emails. That's hard to picture because we use them every day! But long ago, ancient people also found ways to send messages far away. For example, early Australians used smoke to send messages as early as 15,000 B.C.

As time went on, people built better systems(系统) to send messages. Around 2400 B.C., Egypt started the first postal(邮政的) system. Later, in 1000 B.C., China made it even better by using a relay(接力) system with stations and fresh horses. This way, messages could travel up to 200 miles in a single day. Around 600 B.C., Persia improved things further by building roads from Turkey to India and using one language for messages. Their excellent riders could finish a three-month trip on foot in just over a week! However, at that time, these systems were only for government messages.

But over time, things began to change. By the Middle Ages, common people and businesses started their own mail networks.

Two big changes in the 1800s helped create the modern postal system. First, a British teacher named Rowland Hill invented the stamp. Before that, the receiver paid for the letter — if they refused, it wasn't sent. With prepaid stamps, mail became easier and cheaper. Soon, many countries followed. Second, in 1874, the Universal Postal Union was formed to make international mail rules the same everywhere.

Today, email has taken the place of traditional mail, but sending packages(包裹) is more popular than ever because online shopping has become so common. Postal systems now use machines and even AI to put letters in order.

The mail keeps moving — always changing to meet people's needs and new ways of staying in touch.

A girl believed that she had many talents and could succeed in many fields. All she needed to do was choose one thing and focus on it. One day, she sat in front of a clean canvas(画布) and started to paint. She painted carefully, and soon finished a wonderful piece — a beautiful sunflower standing tall in a field. She looked at her work and smiled with pride.

But soon, she grew worried. "If I spend all my time painting," she thought, "what about medicine, gardening, or teaching? There are so many choices! If I pick one, won't the others be wasted?" She couldn't decide which path to take. So she looked at her painting one last time and walked out into the night.

She wandered aimlessly for many years, always thinking about her endless choices. But she never made a choice. Twenty-five years passed. One day, she broke down in tears. She realized she had wasted so much time choosing instead of doing. She had tried so many things, but had never really put her heart into anything meaningful. She finally understood that life is not about what you can do. It is about making a decision and doing what you truly love.

So the woman, no longer a girl, went to a farm and began to paint. This time, she painted a field of sunflowers, all turning toward the sun. She looked at her work, smiling with comfort. And she finally made her choice.

In the South China Sea，there is a group of Jiaoren，or Chinese mermaids，whose tears become pearls（珍珠） after they fall. To the north of Kunlun Mountains，there is a monster called Xiangliu，which has nine heads with human faces but the of a snake. These magic creatures are from the ancient book of mythical （神话的）legends Shan Hai Jing. 

Shan Hai Jing，also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas，is to be at least 2，200 years old. It is about the culture and geography of China before the Qin dynasty. It has 31，000 words，more or less. The whole collection eighteen parts，talking about more than 350 mountains. It also tells many stories and describes lots of mythical creatures. 

A famous story in the book is about Zhu Rong，the God of Fire. He is described as a beast-like body and a human face，riding around the sky on two dragons. When he had a big fight with Gong Gong，the God of Water，Zhu Rong won.  victory brought light and hope to humans soon after. But after the fight，the human world became dark. Then he brought fire from heaven to the world and taught humans how to useit. 

  it's not clear who wrote it，the Shan Hai Jing is an important ancient book in the pre-Qin period of China and is considered one of the treasures of Chinese culture. The in the book are now being spread from one generation to another in China. The book has inspired many people Lu Xun and J. K. Rowling. There are also many books，films，games，and artworks made from it. 

In early 2025，fishermen along the south-west coast of England started pulling up their crab pots（笼） and discovered something unfamiliar. Instead of common crabs and lobsters，the pots were filled with plenty of common octopuses（章鱼）. One pot even held over a dozen octopuses moving inside. A fisherman with nearly 40 years' experience said，"I've never seen octopus like this. "

Official government records show a shocking change. In May 2025，over 400 tons of octopus were caught——a monthly total never before seen in British history. In the past，monthly octopus catches hardly ever rose above 75 tons. In 2025 as a whole，about 233，000 octopuses were caught，around 13 times the normal number. 

Scientists began research at once. This sudden rise. called an octopus"bloom"，has only been recorded three times in 125 years. Dr Bryce Stewart stated that the event"shows clearly how sea life reacts to a warming ocean. " Higher water temperatures improve the survival and growth of young octopuses，and unusual currents（洋流） may have carried tiny baby octopuses across the Channel toward the UK coast. 

Matt Slater，an ocean protection officer，called it"an extraordinary population explosion unseen for 75 years. " Although some fishermen turned to catching octopus and earned much money，more than half said the event harmed their business seriously. One fisherman said，"We once caught a ton of crabs daily，but as octopuses feed on shellfish，we failed to reach that total all year. " Plymouth's government described the situation as"a great challenge for the local fishing industry. "

Scientists warn this may not be a single incident. Dr Stewart added，"As climate change warms our seas rapidly，strange biological events will probably become more often. "

Evan and his 15-year-old brother，Mark，liked spending time with their grandmother. One day，Grandma was busy painting her kitchen，so she asked the boys to look for games in the attic（阁楼）. 

The brothers climbed to the attic. Evan found an old diary in a dusty box rather than a game. He opened it and discovered a map!The drawing showed Grandma' s house，a raindrop inside a square，two little triangles（三角形），and a dock（码头）. A large"X" marked the"Greatest Fishing Spot（地点）" near the dock. 

Excitedly，Evan asked，"Do you think we can find this spot？" Mark took a closer look. "Let's try，" he said. They ran downstairs. "Mom，we' re going on a treasure hunt!" Evan shouted. "Okay，" Mom laughed. 

"The square with the raindrop is behind Grandma' s house，" Mark said. He looked up and noticed a faded（褪色的） blue spot on the water tower. "Look!The water tower once had a raindrop painted on it. That must be it. "

Next，the boys searched for the two small triangles. Soon，Evan pointed to two pine trees. "These trees must be the triangles on the map. he decided. "Now we just need to find the dock. "Mark said. They searched the riverside but found only wild plants. 

Evan suggested asking Grandma. They rushed into the kitchen as Grandma and Mom were washing paintbrushes. "That dock was torn down a long time ago，" Grandma explained. "How did you know about it？" The boys showed her the map. Mom smiled. "That's my map from when I was a girl. Grandma and I loved fishing from that dock. "

"Could you take us there？The dock is gone，but maybe it's still a great fishing spot，"Evan said hopefully. Grandma smiled，recalling the times she spent with Mom. "Sure，" she agreed. "Let's see if the fish still like it there. ""I' ll get our fishing poles（鱼竿），" Evan offered. The map had led to a treasure—and a chance to spend time with Grandma.

When I was a kid，my two brothers and I would stay with Grandparents for a week during summer vacation. Those1 were the highlight of our entire year—we always looked forward to spending every moment with them，especially Grandpa，the"hero" in our eyes.

Life keeps changing. While some changes are exciting，others may make us feel nervous.  Whether you like them or not，changes cannot be avoided. Having a good understanding of them may make it easier for us to deal with changes. 

What are life changes？

Many new things happen in life. Some are good choices you make. like joining a team or meeting friends.  They can be big things like moving schools，a friend going away or the death of your beloved one. Smaller changes might include having a new teacher or adapting（适应） to parents' new work schedules. All these can create strong emotions，but that's normal. 

Changes can be difficult because we can't predict results. Emily Hanlon，a psychologist（心理学家），says，"Our brains like familiar things because they feel safe. When something changes，like starting a new school or moving to a new home，it can feel like stepping into the unknown. " Changes can also be hard if you don't feel quite ready for them or you are not in control of whatever is happening. 

Can change be a good thing？

Trying new things helps discover what you like and dislike，such as tasting new ice cream flavors to find favorites.  Hanlon says，"Though changes can be scary，they often bring new experiences，friendships，and strengths. " So face the changes and believe in yourself.
