"Let's go for a colourwalk," my seven-year-old sister said excitedly.

"What is a colourwalk?" I wondered.

Your dog turns its head when you cry, moves around when you're stressed and shows up by your side in your worst moments. Why are they so sweet? After thousands of years of living with us, dogs have learned to pick up on our voices, faces and even our smells.

Dogs' brains have areas that react (回应) to voices, just like ours do. Scientists found that certain brain parts light up when dogs hear voices. They don't just notice the sound itself, but also the feelings in your words.

Dogs are also good at reading faces. When they look at pictures of human faces, their brain activity rises. An MDPI study showed that seeing a familiar face starts a dog's emotional (情感的) center.

Interestingly, dogs can even smell emotions. In a 2018 study, dogs introduced to sweat from frightened people showed more stress than dogs that smelled "happy" sweat. Simply put, your worry has a smell your dog can pick up, while your calmness helps them relax.

So how did dogs get so good at reading our emotions? The answer is in evolution (进化). A Russian fox experiment found that foxes raised for friendliness develop better in the emotional center. For dogs, thousands of years beside humans have improved their abilities to read our social and emotional signs.

The possibility of living on Mars is being explored after a study proved the discovery of saltwater lakes below the surface of Mars.

Billions of years ago, the climate of Mars was warm and wet and had the possibility for hosting microbial (微生物的) life. Scientists are not 100 percent sure what happened to water on it. One popular general idea is solar (太阳的) wind. According to the idea, the solar wind likely blew away CO₂, as well as small drops of water air from Mars over the past billion years, leaving the planet with only 10 percent of its beginning amount of water today.

It is just like when we get our skin wet and there are small drops of water on the surface, the wind will finally dry us off; and the water will be carried away. This is very likely to happen to Mars, causing the surface to become hard and dry.

This discovery was made with the help of the European Space Agency's Mars Express spaceship, which sent out radio waves to the planet's surface. Scientists decided what material their radio waves met with. The area with the supposed bodies of water had high reflectivity (反射率), which is why scientists think that water is stored below the surface.

With temperatures as low as the average on Mars, water is supposed to be frozen. But scientists think that water on Mars is able to keep a water form because of the high level of the salt — so high that the possibility of active life surviving in such a condition is pretty low.

With the salty water and an unsuitable climate, Mars is now not fit to live on. But scientists are still trying to learn more about the life forms that once possibly lived on the planet.

Can you imagine a world without fire, where food can't be cooked and there is no way to stay warm in winter? In ancient times, our ancestors lived under such conditions.

Back then, people didn't know that there was fire, let alone how to use it. When night fell, it was as black as a hole, and the cries of wild animals could be heard in the air. People had to stay close together, cold and scared. Without fire, they had to eat raw (生的) food, which often made them ill, leading to early deaths.

This is the point in the story when Suiren appears. Ancient texts show that there was once a place called Suiming, where people didn't know about the change of the seasons or the difference between day and night. In that land, a huge tree called the Sui Wood grew widely.

Suiren became the first person to create fire in ancient China, teaching people to cook food, ending the age of eating raw meat. This made humans different from animals and he is honored as the "Fire Ancestor". Every year, different kinds of events related to fire culture are held to honor the great man. Suiren's value goes beyond teaching humans to use fire. He also opened a new era in the development of human civilization (文明).
