Feel down? Hug a tree!
Recently, many young people have turned to trees to help with their stress. Although it sounds strange, there's science behind the act of tree-hugging.
It was pointed out by the US scientist Edward O. Wilson. He said that humans are born to love being around other living things. Humans' love for nature is in their DNA. This idea helps to explain why people prefer natural, green views to city views. It's also one of the reasons why people love cute pets.
Some studies have been done to find out why tree-hugging can help with our health. A study reported that the activity can increase the level of oxytocin (催产素). It's an important hormone(激素) which can influence our feelings. The higher the level of oxytocin is, the calmer and happier you may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can lead to an increase in the level of oxytocin.
Another hormone called cortisol (皮质醇) is a marker of stress. The brain produces more cortisol when the person is anxious, angry, or very sad. Hugging trees helps cut cortisol production, which makes us feel better.
Although the activity is helpful to us, it is important to keep in mind that we shouldn't hurt nature while doing it. Many small creatures(生物) live in the tree, and they are too small to be seen. So remember to hug trees softly — just like how you hug a friend!
(1)、What's the main idea of Paragraph 4?A、How long we should hug a tree. B、How our brain produces oxytocin. C、Why tree-hugging helps keep us healthy.(2)、Which may describe the relationship between negative(负面的) feelings and the level of cortisol?(x=negative feelings, y=the level of cortisol)A、
B、
C、
(3)、According to the text, why should we hug trees softly?A、To have more friends. B、To make us close to nature. C、To protect the small creatures.(4)、In which part of a magazine can the text be found?A、Culture. B、Animals. C、Health. -

Plastic is everywhere. According to the United Nations, enough plastic waste to fill 2,000 trucks is thrown into waterways such as oceans, rivers and lakes each day. There's plastic litter at the bottom of the ocean and on top of faraway mountains. Now plastic has been found in another unlikely place: on the backs of hermit crabs. According to a study, hermit crabs are using plastic litter as shells(壳).
Zuzanna Jagiello, a researcher of the study, said, "For me, a hermit crab in a plastic shell could be a symbol of our times. They don't have homes, so they use rubbish. " Jagiello studies the Anthropocene. That's the geologic age we're in now. Scientists define(界定) it as the period in which human activity has had a strong influence on the environment. Hermit crabs using plastic waste as shells is one example of that influence.
Hermit crabs are small, soft-bodied crabs that live near oceans. To protect themselves, the crabs wear shells that have been left behind by dead sea snails(海螺). But according to the study, about 386 hermit crabs have been recorded wearing waste. Nearly nine out of every 10 of those crabs were wearing plastic waste, such as bottle caps. The others wore glass or metal, such as cans.
Scientists aren't sure why hermit crabs are choosing litter instead of snail shells. But there are some guesses. Some sea snail populations are falling. Hermit crabs could be turning to litter because they can't find enough seashells. It's also possible that crabs are choosing plastic because it's light and easy to carry. Or they're interested in its bright colors.
Scientists agree that plastic pollution harms wildlife in many ways. But it isn't clear that the crabs are in any danger. "It's really an amazing example of the beauty of adaptation(适应), which shows how some animals are dealing with the Anthropocene," Jagiello says.
(1)、How does the writer start the text?A、By comparing ideas. B、By raising questions. C、By presenting facts.(2)、Which of the following might a hermit crab use as its shell?A、
B、
C、
(3)、Which of the following would Jagiello probably agree with?A、Hermit crabs choose metal because of its bright colors. B、Sea snails prefer plastic bottles to other kinds of waste. C、Hermit crabs use plastic as shells to get used to the environment.(4)、What is the text mainly about?A、The living habits of sea animals. B、The way of doing scientific research. ①Many of you may know the Venus flytrap (捕蝇草). It's a small plant that looks a bit scary. People often see it as something fun and unusual. Lots of curious kids and even adults use a pencil to touch its traps (陷阱). They want to see how quickly the traps close! But do you know that the Venus flytrap isn't the only plant that "eats" other things? There are over 600 kinds of carnivorous (肉食性的) plants. These plants learned to catch and eat other things in different ways, and this ability developed on its own at least six times in the world of flowering plants.
②Why do these plants "eat" insects? It's not for energy, because like other plants, they can make their own food through photosynthesis (光合作用). The real reason is to get important nutrients (养分) like nitrogen. Most plants get these nutrients from soil, but carnivorous plants live in places where the soil is poor.
③Carnivorous plants have different ways to catch insects. For example, some plants like pitcher plants have leaves shaped like cups. Insects fall into these "cups" and can't get out. Other carnivorous plants such as sundews and butterworts have sticky leaves. When an insect lands on them, it gets stuck. And of course, the Venus flytrap has its famous traps that close quickly around insects. Most of these plants eat insects. But some big pitcher plants can even eat frogs and mice!
④Sadly, many carnivorous plants are in danger. They usually grow in only a few places. As people take up their homes or collect them too much, these amazing plants might disappear forever. We should try to protect them so that we can still see these wonderful plants in the future.
(1)、What does the underlined word "They" refer to in Paragraph ①?A、Small insects. B、Carnivorous plants. C、Curious kids and adults.(2)、Why do carnivorous plants "eat" insects?A、To keep insects away. B、To get important nutrients. C、To live in rich soil.(3)、How does the writer develop the text in Paragraph ③?A、By telling stories. B、By asking questions. C、By giving examples.(4)、What can we infer from the passage?A、People's actions can harm carnivorous plants. B、Carnivorous plants eat the same kind of insects. C、Carnivorous plants can't make food through photosynthesis.(5)、What's the main idea of this passage?A、The ways carnivorous plants catch insects. B、The importance of protecting carnivorous plants. C、The introduction of carnivorous plants and their situation. -

① In recent years, Chinese cities have made exciting efforts to build more parks and green spaces. Let's explore how these changes benefit both people and nature, especially in Guangxi!
② Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, is famous for its local culture like Yong Opera. Nowadays, people can watch it in some parks in Nanning. To make the city healthier, Nanning built the colorful Flowers Park. Here, children can play basketball, join outdoor games or enjoy family picnics. Parks like this not only bring joy, but also clean the air and protect Guangxi's natural beauty.
③ Guangxi's "park city" project started in
2018. It helps cities like Nanning and Guilin now mix nature with culture. In Nanning's parks, you might see Yong Opera performances under the trees! Students can also help their cities by joining tree-planting events or neighborhood clean-ups.
④ Other cities are taking action too. Some cities like Shanghai turned 152 empty lands into green parks from 2021 to 2022! Beijing's Central Green Forest Park, opened in 2020, is a "carbon-neutral" park. This means the trees there take in more carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) than the park produces. It reuses rainwater and uses solar energy to fight climate change.
⑤ As cities in China become greener, "park cities" are becoming a reality (现实). This idea intends to improve the natural environment and meet people's need for a better living experience. They give us fresh air, keep cities cool, and protect local traditions. For example, parks save water by collecting rain and reduce waste by recycling. By caring for green areas together, we make our cities happier and healthier.
(1)、What can people do in parks of Nanning?A、Get close to the wild animals. B、Get to know about local culture. C、Take part in college activities.(2)、What does "It" mean in Paragraph 3?A、The park. B、The city. C、The project.(3)、What did Shanghai do to make the city greener?A、It planted more trees in the city center. B、It changed some empty space into green parks. C、It built more parking lots (停车场) around the city parks.(4)、Why is China making park cities a reality?A、To help people learn more about the nature. B、To develop a new idea about building parks. C、To improve the environment and people's lives.(5)、How does the writer develop the passage?A、By raising questions on park designs in different provinces. B、By listing problems and solutions for climate change. C、By introducing a general idea and giving some examples. -
