Traditional Seating

Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient (便利的) for students to have discussions in class.

Paired Seating

Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate (合作) with their deskmates. However, some students can't focus on their lessons because they may chat with their deskmates.

Group Seating

Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is great for either large or small classes. It is good for group discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When students are doing group work, some of them may sit back (袖手旁观) and leave others to find a way out.

U-Shaped Seating

Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle. The teacher has enough space to move around. However, it takes up (占据) more classroom space.

Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own advantages (优点) and disadvantages.

Oak trees grow in many parts of the world, such as North America, Europe and Asia. In spring, oak trees grow fresh green leaves and small flowers. When autumn arrives, their leaves turn golden or red and they produce acorns (橡子). Acorns are the seeds (种子) of the oak trees. They are also important food for many animals.

The wood of oak trees is important to people's lives. People use it to make furniture (家具), floors, and ships because the oak wood is very strong and hard. Besides, a long time ago, people used oak wood to build houses and boats because it did not rot (腐烂) easily.

Oak trees are also important for the environment because they provide (提供) clean air for us to breathe. Besides, they provide homes for many animals.

Next time you see an oak tree, remember how special it is. It's not just a tree—it's home to a provider of food, and a helper for our planet.

"I think it's important for teenagers to learn how to cook. Maths and English are important, of course, but they need other skills to help them in today's world. First, I taught Tom how to cook easy meals. Then he started using recipes in books." Tom's mother said.

"I love cooking and I think I'm really good at it.        ▲        I don't know why, it isn't difficult and it's great fun!" Tom said. In a big city, there was a young woman named Emily. She was an engineer in a company. Last year, she had a chance to go to Canada for further study. But she couldn't speak English very well, and that made it hard for her to communicate with others in English. So, Emily decided to improve her oral English.

Every morning, she would practice English with some special apps. She listened to and followed the English sentences. She would listen to English news on her way to work, which helped improve her pronunciation. After lunch, she would read newspapers in English to learn more words and keep up with the changing daily topics. Emily also joined an English-speaking club and went there to practice her oral English every Saturday afternoon.

She worked hard and never gave up. As time went by, Emily made great progress. At the same time, she became more confident in speaking English.

During her studies in Canada, she got an opportunity to present her research. Her clear and beautiful English impressed (给……留下深刻的好印象) many people. She made many friends and opened up more doors for her bright future.

I knew I had to learn more Chinese, so I attended a Chinese class. My teacher was helpful, although I didn't learn enough to have a real conversation. Later I studied on my own as well, but my progress was still slow. So I decided to give up.

Around this time, I started playing in a band with a Chinese man who became one of my best friends in Beijing. He taught me a lot of words about music, such as "melody". He learned a lot of English from me in return, so it was a good way to exchange language and culture.

I have learned enough Chinese to deal with many problems like booking train tickets. These days, there are more foreigners who are studying Chinese. I can tell it's an amazing language.

Finally, I find that the best way to learn a language is to make friends with native speakers and spend time with them.

Gillian Lynne never did well in school as a child. She couldn't sit for a long time and often found herself moving restlessly. Her mother was quite worried about her. She took Lynne to a doctor. For 20 minutes, she talked about the problems Lynne was having in school. Then, the doctor said to Lynne, "I need to speak to your mother first. Wait here."

As they left the room, the doctor turned on the radio. He then said to Lynne's mother, "Just stand here and watch her." The minute they left the room, Lynne was on her feet, dancing to the music on the radio.

The doctor then turned to Lynne's mother and said, "Mrs Lynne, your daughter isn't sick. She is a dancer. Take her to a dance school. Let her show her talent."

So she did. Lynne's new dance school was full of people just like her—people who had to move in order to think. Lynne later went to the Royal Ballet School (皇家芭蕾舞学院), one of the world's greatest dance schools, and became a great dancer.

After leaving the school, she worked on some of the greatest musicals in history and she became famous. It is hard to believe that years ago, somebody else would just put her on medication (药物治疗).
