Have you heard of Draw a Bird Day? Every year, on April 8, people in some draw a bird as a way to find joy in simple things in life. They want to help soldiers temporarily (暂时地) forget their suffering (痛苦).

Spring is the best season for kite-flying. This is a traditional folk activity, which has a history of more than 2,000 years. It can help improve one's health and keep people from getting sick.

In many parts of China, it's a tradition to "bite spring" on the first day of the Start of Spring. People usually eat spring pancakes and spring rolls(春卷).

Appreciating plum blossoms(赏梅花)

Plum trees blossom from the 12th lunar month to the second lunar month of the next year. The plum blossom always fights against the cold. In China, the plum blossom is praised as one of the four gentlemen of Chinese flowers.

Welcoming spring

People in China began holding a special ceremony on the first day of the Start of Spring about 3,000 years ago. They made sacrifices(祭品) to Gou Mang, the god of spring. By the Qing Dynasty, greeting spring had become an important folk activity. In Beijing, government officials welcome spring in the field near Dongzhimen (the east gate of the old Beijing city).

Suddenly, he heard a loud voice. It was a lion. Feeling afraid, he quickly ran back. The lion was getting closer and closer. He climbed a huge tree. But when he was about to take a breath, he saw a bear sleeping on a branch (树枝) near him.

The lion saw the tree, the man and the bear. He asked the bear to push the man down, as he was hungry. The bear slowly replied, "I am sorry I cannot do that. This is my tree. He came to me to save his life. I cannot let him fall." Hearing this, the man felt happy.

The lion remained silent for a while. He then said to the man, "Hey, push the bear down and I will leave you alone." Without thinking, the man began to push the bear. The bear was so clever that he moved to another branch and seated himself comfortably. However, the man lost his balance and fell down. He regretted what he had done. The lion laughed at him and took him away.

Here is what Tony usually does on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. At 6:00 a.m. , he gets up and brushes his teeth. Then at 6:30, he goes running for an hour. After that, he takes a shower and cleans up for work. He leaves home for work at 7:30. It takes him 20 minutes to drive to his office. He starts to work at 8:00. In the afternoon, he usually arrives home from work at 6:30.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays he gets up at 7:00 a.m. He does some housework and then goes to work. He only has to get up early to exercise 3 days a week.

Tony also has healthy eating habits. On the days he doesn't need to exercise, and he usually goes to the stores to buy food. He buys healthy food such as vegetables and fruit. Sometimes he buys some meat. He likes eating beef. He likes cooking dinner at home.

He likes to relax on the weekend. He often goes to the park with his friends. He also likes to watch movies.

On a rainy evening, Lily was walking home from school. She forgot her umbrella and she had to hurry along the street. At that time, she saw an old woman carrying some heavy shopping bags. Lily decided to help.

"Can I help you with your bags？" Lily asked the old woman. The woman smiled and nodded her head. Together, they walked to the woman's house, talking along the way. The old woman told Lily about her life and how she lived alone. Lily felt good and happy when talking with her.

When they arrived at the old woman's house, the woman asked Lily to dry off(变干) and have some hot chocolate. Lily said yes and they spent some time talking. The old woman was very kind and told Lily how much she thanked her.

As Lily left the house, the rain stopped, and she felt warm inside. She learned that helping others not only brings them happiness but also makes herself happy. From that day on, Lily made it a point to help others whenever she could.

It is hard to think about how a girl spends her life when only the head and hands can move(移动). Xu Ruiyang is a girl from Kunming. She got ill at the age of 2. At that time the doctor said that she could only live for a few years. 

Hearing that, her parents were heartbroken. But after crying, they still tried to teach her lots of things. Some easy things, like opening a book or putting up the hands, are difficult for Xu. She has to use her head, mouth and hands to do these things.

When she started learning to write, she couldn't even take a pen at first. But after hard work, she could finally write about 500 Chinese characters (汉字) before she went to school.

Thanks to her parents, Xu is a sunny girl. "If we can't make her live longer, we can make her life wider (更宽的)，" said Xu's father. They travelled across China and more than 20 other countries all over the world.

"Life is short and problems are always there，" said Xu. "But I will make full use of my time and be a happy person." 

It is not hard to make friends. True friends care and share(分享). You just need to show care for your friends.

A man often bought oranges from an old woman. After paying, he would choose one, try a piece of it and say it tasted bad before giving it back to her. The old woman would eat the orange, smile and say, "It's delicious." But by then(在那时), the man was already gone (离开的)．

One day, the man's wife asked him, "The oranges are always sweet, so why do you do that？" "The old woman sells sweet oranges, but she never eats them herself. I do this so she'll try one without losing money，" the man answered.

A boy saw this happen every day. He asked the old woman, "Why do you keep giving him more oranges even though (即使) he is not friendly to you？" The old woman smiled and said, "I know what he's trying to do. He wants me to eat an orange. So, it's not really like I'm giving him more oranges— his kindness makes up (弥补) the difference."

Caring about others also brings more love to yourself. Let's be kind to others and find happiness in little acts of love.

My mom told me my first and second words were "Mommy" and "Daddy". The next one was "No". I didn't want to eat vegetables. I didn't want to go to bed early. I didn't want to study in the school. Being the "baby" of the family (I have two sisters), I said a lot of "No"．

When I became a middle school student, my father had a talk with me. He asked me to say "Yes" more than "No". "You can have a different life when you do that，" he said.

Then I began to say "Yes" more. When Mom asked me to give her a cup of tea, I said, "Yes". I saw a big smile on her face. When Dad asked me to buy some food for him, I said, "Yes". I heard his thanks. When I met problems in study, I said, "Yes, I can do it！" I began to study hard and got good grades.

Saying "Yes" can bring good luck to me and make me happy. Let's say "Yes" to life. Say "Yes" when others ask for help. Say "Yes" to make this world be a good place.

Jack is a boy who loves to read books. He reads all day. He reads at night. Jack's books are here and there. He can't even find his chair. He can't see which clothes to wear.

"That's enough！" his mother says. "Clean up these books and go to bed！"

"Clean them up? But how? Right now? What should I do? How do I move (移动) them all from here？"

"Wait! What is this book? Hmm… How To Make a Library! I can organize (整理) them by the writers' names. That sounds like a really cool game! Organize them like the alphabet (字母表). Or I could organize them by the titles(题目), too. That's no sweat. I'm sure I can do it."

"All A titles. I'll put them here. This is great! Now I see! Next will come for B. This is really so much fun！"

Following these rules, Jack organizes them one by one. He sorts (分类) them all from A to Z. He is happy after doing that. His mother is also happy.

"Books are great，" says Jack with a smile. "They help me make a library！"

Life is full of surprises. Sometimes someone we don't know may help us a lot.

I went on a trip to Yangshuo, China last vacation. One day, I1 to visit the water caves (洞穴). I started late. Luckily, a bus came and I got on it. I arrived at the caves at about 5 p．m. There were no other 2 in the water caves at that time. I just visited them alone (单独)．
