Ms. Wang's kindness wins praise from many customers. What's more, the story of  this  restaurant  tells  us  that  we  should  help  others  without  thinking (two). A small act can make a big difference and make our community much (warm) and more caring. Additionally, the restaurant has thought about introducing this program to help more people, including the disabled or those suffering  diseases.

In  recent  years,  a  growing  number  of families  have  started  participating  in volunteer activities during their weekends. Instead of going shopping  or watching movies, they choose to clean up parks, visit nursing homes, or help at community centers.

There are several important reasons why family volunteering is so valuable.

In today's fast-paced world, family members often spend most of their time on separate activities—— parents are busy with work while children focus on schoolwork and mobile phones. Volunteering together creates  opportunities for more communication. When family members work side by side to achieve a common goal, they build a better understanding of each other.

 Through various volunteer activities, children not only learn practical skills but also develop important qualities. For instance, when helping to organize a community book fair, children learn planning and communication skills.

Family volunteering creates a positive cycle that benefits both the family and the community. This special experience will grow into a family tradition that everyone values.

Volunteering is widely seen as a selfless act, a way to help the community and support those in need. However, recent scientific studies have found an interesting fact:  helping  others  also brings  significant psychological(心理的 ) and physical benefits to the volunteer. This creates a"win-win" situation where kindness enriches both the giver and the receiver.

When you take part in voluntary work, such as caring for the elderly or cleaning up a city park, your brain produces chemicals like dopamine(多巴胺). These are often called"feel-good" hormones(荷尔蒙). They can lift your mood, reduce feelings of stress, and create a sense of happiness and satisfaction. Furthermore, volunteering often connects with social activities. Working alongside others towards a common goal can help you make new friends, strengthen your sense of belonging, and reduce loneliness.

The benefits are beyond momentary(瞬间的) feelings. Regularly helping others can provide a strong sense of meaning in life. It can increase your self-confidence as you see your actions  making a real difference. Some  research  even  suggests that long-term volunteers may experience better physical health and lower risks of certain diseases, possibly because reduced stress and positive emotions are good for the body.

Of course, this doesn't mean we should help others just for our own good. The true  spirit  of volunteerism  is  about  compassion(怜悯 )  and  responsibility. But understanding these"hidden benefits" can be a powerful force. It encourages more people to start their volunteering journey, knowing that in the process of giving, they are also receiving the gifts of joy, connection, and personal growth.

In  1989,  a  surprising  number presented  a  challenge  in  China's  educational landscape: 4.8 million children were unable to attend school, and a large percentage of them were girls. To solve this problem and create fairer educational chances, the Chinese  government launched the"Spring  Bud(春蕾 )  Project". This  nationwide charity(慈善) program aims to help girls return to the classroom.

The  project works  through different ways. Its  most  direct form  is  providing financial(经济的) aid to cover school fees for girls from poor families. Additionally, it has helped build many schools in underdeveloped areas to improve their learning environments. Besides material support, the project also cares about the girls' daily lives. For example, for some students who lived far from school, it even paid for rooms nearby to make sure they could continue their studies safely and conveniently.

The  influence  of a helping hand  can  last a  lifetime. The project has  helped millions of girls. One of them is Feng Guixiang. With the project's support, she not only learned to read and write but also later became a teacher at a Spring Bud school in Guangxi. Her journey from a helped student to a helping teacher perfectly shows the project's long-term value: it not only changes personal lives but also creates a cycle of kindness, as those who received help often wish to help others in return. TheSpring Bud Project shows that education is the most powerful"bud" that can turn into a better future for both the children and society.

On a December morning in 2024, Zhang Yuheng, a junior high student from Bao' an, was on his usual way to school when he saw an elderly man fall on the sidewalk. Remembering the first-aid skills he had learned from both school and his parents, he rushed over and immediately began to perform CPR (心肺复苏) on the elderly man while calling out to passers-by for help to call  120. The situation was dangerous, but Zhang remained calm and focused. He kept doing CPR until the ambulance(救护车) came.

The incident was recorded by a person and soon spread online, earning Zhang widespread praise. Netizens called him a"textbook example" of a young first aider.When asked later why he acted so bravely, Zhang simply said,"I didn't hesitate because if I didn' t go up to save him, he might not have survived." For his act of kindness and courage, Zhang Yuheng was honored as a 2024 Guangdong"Micro-civilization Star".

Zhang's story is more than just a single good deed. It highlights the importance of popularizing first-aid knowledge among teenagers. His school has long included safety education in its courses. Zhang believes that"micro-civilization" is the light of human nature that shines  in small acts, from saving a life to not littering. He hopes his experience will encourage more young people to  learn practical  skills and  lend a helping hand whenever they can.

On November 26,2025, a serious fire broke out (爆发) in Hung Fuk Court, TaiPo, Hong Kong. The fire grew fast inside the building, making it a dangerous place in just a few 1 . Firemen 2 right away, fighting the thick smoke and high heat 3 . They  searched  every  room carefully, never 4 anyone in danger.

The research chose fruit flies(果蝇), as they share many genes(基因) with humans. The fruit flies were either fed normally or had an apple extract(浓缩物) added to their diet.

It turned out that those fruit flies that were given apple extract lived about 55 days— five days longer than the flies that were normally fed..

According to the result, the researchers believed that the antioxidants(抗氧化剂) in the apple extract helped clean up dangerous chemicals that cause illnesses, as well as aging.

 They discovered that those who regularly ate apples were 20 percent less likely to suffer heart illnesses and stroke.

The apples' genetic code(遗传密码) was discovered recently. Researchers are already using the information to grow a kind of apples full of antioxidants that can keep eyes and joints healthy and protect humans against heart illnesses and cancer. The researchers keep studying apple DNA. The extra genes allowed the apple to get used to worse conditions.

After this special meeting, I always thought about this kind of holiday. Last month, Ihad a chance at last to go on such a holiday with some of my schoolmates and we went to London, a place where I had wanted to go since years ago.

As we were still young, we had a group leader who planned things for us and looked after us. After we got to London, we went to stay with different families. I was lucky that my host family was a white couple who had a daughter about my age. They treated me as a daughter of their family during my stay there. They were interested in me and I learnt a lot of things from them, too.

The holiday was filled with activities every day. After breakfast, a local teacher would come to take us in his car. Then we would have classes or go on a sight-seeing trip to different places of interest like the Big Ben, the London Bridge, and the Buckingham Palace.We would go back to our own homes after the activities.

The holiday was a valuable experience for me. I enjoyed every minute of it. Yet, time really flew fast. Three weeks later, we had to leave"home" for Hong Kong.
