China is a country in East Asia. It is large in more than one way. More than 1.4 billion people live here. And China is the third largest country by total area in the world. 

This large country has many different kinds of land. It has some very low areas of land. It is Ayding Lake in the Turpan Depression (吐鲁番盆地). Other parts of China have mountains. For example, part of the Himalayas is in the west part of the country. 

The snow in the mountains is a source (源头) of many rivers. In fact, the snow makes two of China's most important rivers. They are the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. It is very special to Chinese people, as it is the birthplace of Chinese civilization (文明). The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and the third longest river in the world. 

There are thousands of rivers in China. And rain forests are also in some areas of the country. So visitors can enjoy diverse landscapes (多样的风景) in this country!

What kind of places will you choose to live in? Many people like to live in big cities better, because there are many interesting things (see) and do there. People can visit all kinds of museums, watch the latest plays and movies. They can also do the (shop) in big malls and buy things from all over the world. 

 there are serious (严重的) problems in big cities too. The cost of living is high, and some places in these big cities are very crowded and the traffic there is even(bad). Every year many people move to the cities because they think they can easily find (job), study at good schools and make a good living there. But fact, things are different in some way. It's difficult for many people to know what they want. It's not even easy to find nice and cheap place to live. The large population in the city makes it hard to stop heavy traffic. Also, the air (pollute) is more serious there than that in the countryside. 

Now (hundred) of thousands of people enjoy living in big cities, especially young people. They find it exciting (live) in the big cities. However, before moving to a big city, we'd better think about the problems of living there. 

Parkville was a quiet village with fields and hills. It was near Arnwick, a city with a population of about 10,000, 000. The government built  outside the centre for people. Soon, Parkville became part of Arnwick, and the population of Arnwick became even. It is very crowded, and rubbish is also a problem. There is also a lot of traffic and pollution. Luckily, the government is making a great effort to  Arnwick's problems with better public services. The government is  air pollution too. And cities should try to  a more enjoyable living environment.
