My hometown

I would like to tell you something about my hometown Suqian.

Chaka Salt Lake lies in Qinghai Province, China. It sits at nal titude (海拔) of about 3,100 meters and covers an area of about 10 5square kilometers. It is rich in salt with a heavy salt bed close to the lake surface. That makes the lake a main source (来源) of salt in our country. When the weather is clear, the lake offers beautiful reflections (影像) of the blue sky. 

That is why people call it "the sky mirror (镜子)". 

Because of its wonderful views, people see the lake as one oft h e"must-go" places in China. 

The beautiful sunrise and sunset views are the most attractive. Every July, large numbers of visitors begin to crowd to (涌入) Chaka Salt Lake. And the situation usually lasts until the end of August. Because they just don't want to miss the best time to go there. It is believed that with the summer breeze (微风), breathing in the salty air is especially good for lungs. If you want to go on a trip to the lake, the following tips may be helpful. 

◆ Do not eat the salt in the lake directly. 

◆ Wear sunglasses and a hat because of the strong sunshine. 

◆You can't stop taking photos, so you'd better take your camera with you. 

◆Prepare some medicine for the weak and the elderly to deal with altitude sickness. 

Travelling to such a beautiful world of salt with snowy mountains and green grass around, you will feel like you are in a fairyland. 

Liuyang, located in  (centre) China's Hunan Province, is the world's largest production and trade centre for fireworks. 

Today, fireworks from Liuyang are quite popular in markets across Europe, North America and Africa. They not only bring joy and fun to people around the world, but also make people closer  each other. Like many countries, the tradition of setting off fireworks has long been  important part of the New Year celebrations in Germany. Videos of German shoppers  (queue) outside supermarkets early in the morning to buy Chinese fireworks are a big hit on Chinese social media platforms(社交媒体平台). Many of the popular  (product) are made in Liuyang. 

Xu Yunxiang, the general  (manage) in a famous fireworks company, said that this kind of frenzy (狂热) happens almost every year. And he is glad foreigners enjoy Chinese fireworks. People 's need for fireworks continues to rise  (rapid). They want products which are safer,  (create) and of higher quality. In recent years, Liuyang's fireworks companies  (increase) investment (投资) in technological research and development. They try their best to improve product quality and  (safe). The performances of fireworks have greatly improved. This has improved the competitiveness in the national market. 

China is a great country with more than 5,000 years of history.   They attract millions of tourists from all over the world every year. 

Many mountains, such as Mount Tai, Mount Emei and Mount Hua, are very famous. People like to go to Mount Tai to watch the sunrise. 

There are many rivers in China. Among them, the Yangtze River is the longest one and the second longest one is the Yellow River.  Because Chinese ancestors were born in the areas. 

 One of the most famous lakes is the West Lake. Have you heard of the story about Xu Xian and White Snake?  The West Lake is the best place that I have ever visited. It lies in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The scenery is so beautiful that visitors often lose themselves in it. The West Lake has become famous for not only its special scenery but also some beautiful poems. The great poets Bai Juyi and Su Dongpo wrote many poems. And th earea around the West Lake is the home of the famous Dragon Well Tea. The te ais good for people's health.

The days pass. Dorothy works very hard in the kitchen. She remebers Uncle Henry and Aunt Em in Kansas. She remembers her friends, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. She's very sad and she often cries. At night she goes to see t he Lion. The Witch (女巫) doesn't give him anything to eat or drink, so Dorothy takes him food and water from the kitchen. Then she lies downne xt to him, puts her head on his warm body and sleeps until the morning. 

The Witch watches Dorothy all the time. She's waiting for the right moment to take the silver shoes. Dorothy wears them all the time. Shelo ves them. The only time she takes them off is when she has a bath. The Witch doesn't like water, so she's afraid to go near the girl when she's in the bath. 

One day Dorothy is cleaning the kitchen and she slips on the wet floor. She falls over and one of the silver shoes comes off. The Witch pic ksit up quickly and puts it on. 

"Give me back my shoe!" Dorothy says. "No! It's my shoe now," the Witch replies. "You are a bad woman!" Dorothy shouts. "I want my shoe!" 

There's a bucket of water near the door. The girl picks it up and throws the water over the Witch. "Aargh!" the Witch cries. "Water is the end of me!" And she starts to disappear in front of Dorothy's eyes. 

In another minute there's just a lot of water on the kitchen floor. Doroth y quickly takes her shoe, puts it on again and runs outside. 

"The Witch is dead!" she shouts. The Winkies look at her in surprise. They are also the Witch's slaves. "We're all free now!" she says to them. They start cheering and shouting, "The bad Witch is dead! We're free! Thank you, Dorothy!" 

Dorothy goes to the Lion and takes the rope off his neck. He 'svery happy to be free again.

①Shanghai now has its first World Natural Heritage (遗产) site! It is the Dongtan National Nature Reserve (保护区), a wetland on Chongming Island. It was included in the World Heritage List on July 2 6,along with four other wetlands in China. 

②Shanghai's Chongming Island is a must-see for bird lovers. Every year, large numbers of migratory birds (候鸟) visit the island. They stop mostly in the Dongtan National Nature Reserve. The reserve sits on the easte rnend of the island and covers 241.55 square kilometers. So far, about 300 kinds of birds have been seen in the area.

④At the mouth of the Yangtze River, Dongtan is a great wetland.It 's home to plenty of fish and other animals. Its ecosystem provides a perfect habitat (栖息地) for birds. They use it for nesting and raising young. It's also a place for birds to feed, drink and rest. 

⑤In fact, Chongming Island sits in the middle of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF). The EAAF is one of the world's nine main migration ways for birds. It covers a very large area, from Alaska and the Russ ianFar East to Australia and New Zealand. More than 50 million birds take this way. 

⑥The Dongtan wetland is a key stopover site (中途停留点) along the EAAF. "About one million visits by migratory birds—including those that fly past—are recorded at Dongtan every year," says Ma Zhijun, a professor at Fudan University's School of Life Sciences. 

⑦In the past few decades, many wetlands have been destroyed. Bird populations have reduced because they have lost their habitats .Luckily, in recent years, the government has worked hard to protect the wetlands. 

The four great towers are all famous for all kinds of poems and folk stories. In ancient China, people built pavilions and towers mainly inme mory of historical events and achievements. The Yellow Crane (鹤) Tower is one of the four great towers of China. Throughout history, poets, writers and artis tshave travelled to the tower. Cui Hao's famous work "The crane, once gone, has never returned..." makes the Yellow Crane Tower well-known to the world. 

The present Yellow Crane Tower was built in the 1980s, but thet ower has been in different forms since at least AD 223 .The original (起初的) building is believed to have been built as a watchtower for the army bySu n Quan. After hundreds of years, it gradually became a beautiful place to visit. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the tower was destroyed and rebuilt sever altimes. In 1884, it was completely destroyed in a fire and was not rebuilt until 19 8.In 1981, the local government decided to rebuild the tower at a new location, abou tone kilometer from the original one. It took four years to finish rebuilding this tower. 

The Yellow Crane Tower offers visitors many things to see. Thee xhibition themes vary from floor to floor. The theme of the first floor is legends (传说). On the wall, there is a nine-meter long and six-meter wide painted porcelain (瓷) picture. It shows clouds, rivers and cranes. The third floor mainly shows poems about the tower in different dynasties. On top of the tower, visitors are treated to a wonderful view of the Yangtze River, its bridge and the buildings in Wuhan City. 

Next time you want to travel, the Yellow Crane Tower may be a good choice.
