I'm Wang Jun. Every morning, I run by the seaside near my home.  He walks on the beach and looks for something. This morning, I stopped running and walked to him. 

"Hello! I see you here every morning. " I asked. 

"I'm taking away the stones on the turtles (海龟). There are always some baby turtles under the stones. The stones can stop them from going to the sea, so I come to help these turtles every morning," he replied. 

"It's really kind of you.  After all, you can't help all baby turtles under the stones," I said. 

He smiled and said, "When I see them get out of trouble, I feel so happy. It's my own way of making a difference." Then he took away a stone beside him.  He looked at the turtle and went on,"A t least it's meaningful to this turtle." 

 It's true that we can't change the whole world at once. But we can help one person, one animal, or one thing at a time. Ifev eryone can do something good, it will make a big difference. 

The charity Oxfam has shown that UK people bought 32% more second-hand clothes in 2022 than they did in 2018. 

The charity gave out its findings as it started its yearly Second Hand September activity, which encourages people to buy used clothes ,rather than new. Oxfam also wants more people to give away unwanted clothes so they can be reused, and to repair clothes they already have so they will l astlonger. Some people set themselves the challenge of not buying any new clothes during September. 

Buying second-hand clothes is becoming popular in the UK. Besides charit y shops, there are stores selling old clothing that shows past fashion, as well as online shops such as Depop and Vinted. Depop says that 90 %of its users are under the age of 26. 

Buying second-hand clothing is good for the planet because making and selling new clothes can be one of the reasons for climate change. This is partly because getting the right cloth, as well as making the clothesth emselves, can use lots of energy and water. Also, new clothes are often carriedar ound the world to be sold in shops. Lorries, planes and ships give off" greenhouse gases" such as carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). These keep the Sun's heat in the Earth's air and make temperatures rise. 

Oxfam says that if everyone in the UK gave away all the clothe sthey had not worn in the past year to charity shops, as much as 4.9 mill iontonnes of carbon dioxide could be stopped from getting into the Earth 'sair. That is the same as the waste from a plane flying round the world more than 6,600 times. 

"Choosing second-hand clothes gives people a way to take action, "said Lorna Fallon. "Shopping this way sends a clear message that people want and expect things to change." 

"Believe in yourself." "It's okay to be different." 

These are a few of the encouraging messages that callers can hear when they call the PepToc Hotline (热线). It is part of an art project created by teacher s Jessica Martin and Asherah Weiss with students at Westside School in California. The hotline took off after it started. People called from around the world. 

This was a surprise. "At first, we wanted this project to be just for our litt le town," Martin said. The town had been through a hard time because of the wildfires and the pandemic. But her students were tough and stayed happy. 

The PepToc project has two parts. One part is inspirational( 鼓舞人心的) posters. Students put them up around the town. There were more than 150 posters. "Kids just ran with them," Weiss said. The other part is pep talks (激励的话). Martin invited kids to record these pep talks for the telephone hotline. In its first several weeks, the hotline got millions of calls. 

"People need something to make them feel good in these difficul ttimes," Darin Juric told Time for Kids. He is a student who took part in the project. Mart in agreed. "It really does just take a few words of kindness to spread joyar ound the world," she said. 

Catalina Campos, an 11-year-old girl, loves helping the elderly. Her story o f kindness began when she was three. Since her mom worked at a nursing home, Catalina went there with her a lot. During festivals, she wou ldprepare small gifts for people there, bringing joy to them. 

As Catalina grew older, she wanted to do more. She founded a non-profit organization (非营利组织) named Circul KC. The purpose is to let other kids join the charity event to show kindness. On Mother's Day, they packed flowers with heart-warming cards for the elderly women. They also gave out hundreds of cards on special days, each with best wishes written on it. Besides, they collected donations (捐赠物) of medicine and clothes for the elderly. Then they set everything up at different places around the city, and people could take what they needed for free. 

The name Circul KC has a special meaning. Catalina explained,"When somebody gives something to us, we can give it to somebody else .Then they can give it to somebody else. It makes a circle of kindness."A lot of kids are afraid to try new things. Catalina often tells them, "Don't be shy and nervous. Just smile and you can do it!"

Seventeen-year-old Nadia Clarke talks about her African experience: 

Last summer I got the chance to spend a1 helping out in a hospital in Africa. I had one year left at school, and I was interestedin studying medicine at university. I thought it was the perfect chance to get some experience and to see2 I really wanted to be a doctor. 

It was a month that3 my life. I was introduced to a world that is very different from4 in so many ways. In the hospital, I was5 at how poor so many of the families over there are and how difficult their lives can be.6 , I was also amazed at how positively people go about their everyday lives. The way they come together and help each other is a real inspiration,a n dthis is7 I think a lot of us here in the UK have forgotten. I think many ofus don't8 how lucky we are. 

My work in the hospital was9 . I not only spent a lot of time cleaning floors and changing bed sheets, but I also got to spend some time10 the patients. And I got the chance to talk to some11 and learnt a lot about medicine. I saw some truly awful things in the hospital, but12 of them changed my mind about being a doctor.13 they only made me more interested in studying medicine! 

When I finish, I know14 what I'm going to do: I want to work for an international organization like the Red Cross or Médecins Sans Frontières and spend my life helping people overseas who haven't been as15 in life as me. I can't wait to get started.
