Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. It received the name Mount Everest after Sir George Everest, a British man who was the first person to figure out exactly how tall Mount Everest is. 

Climbing Mount Everest is difficult and even deadly. One of the dangers on Mount Everest is altitude (海拔) sickness, which makes climbers feel ill as they move higher. Altitude sickness is caused because oxygen (氧气) in the air gets less as people climb up the mountain. Even at the bottom of the mountain, some people really have trouble with the low level of oxygen. Many climbers have made it to the top of Everest, but not had the power or ability to make it safely back down. There are lots of other dangers to climbers on Everest. Avalanches (滑雪者) can sweep down the mountain almost daily. Storms and high winds may blow climbers off the mountain. 

It would be almost impossible to climb Mount Everest without the help of Sherpas (夏尔巴人), the people who live in the mountains near Everest. Because their ancestors have lived in the high altitude of the area for hundreds of years, their blood has special red blood cells (细胞). That allows the cells to carry more oxygen than other people's cells can carry. That is a big advantage in Mount Everest's low-oxygen conditions. Sherpas are excellent climbers and have great power and strength. They are often paid by climbing teams to carry heavy things. For the Sherpas, Everest is a very special and sacred (神圣的) place. 

Mount Everest has been climbed about 6000 times but hundreds of people have died trying to make it to the top of it. Even people who are not mountain climbers continue to be amazed by this amazing mountain.

"Wake up" Sam cheered as he shook his sleeping father. Father's Day was Sam's favorite. Every year, he and Dad spent the whole day doing something together. Last year, they went to an amusement park and rode all the roller coasters. 

"Alright, " Dad climbed out of bed into his wheelchair, following Sam down to the kitchen, where Mum was cooking. "What adventure have you got planned today?" Mum asked. "Maybe we' ll head to the lake and fish. " Dad thought. "Or we could see the new superhero movie?" shouted Sam. He and Dad were really into superhero movies.

Sam's dad led him to the zoo. Inside a room were nurses and a nervous zookeeper. In the corner of the room was a large panda lying on her side. She was groaning（呻吟）. Dad calmly made his way over to the panda. He gave her some medicine and gently brushed her thick fur. Sam's eyes were wide with amazement to see his dad being so brave.
