7、阅读下面短文,在空白处填入一个适当的词,或填入括号中所给单词的正确形式。
Humour is part of human nature. Everyone has the ability to enjoy jokes and laughter, no matter who they are or where they come from. Humour is one of (important) ways people make connections with each other. Humour also helps you look on the bright side of life and face problems (wise).
Once, the famous Irish writer Bernard Shaw was enjoying himself in a quiet field. Suddenly, bike rider ran into him, "I'm so sorry!" said the rider. "Oh, no, " said Mr. Shaw. "I should say sorry I'm not giving luck to you. If you had killed me, you know, you would be famous(有名的)all over the world. "
Chinese writer Feng Jicai was once visited by an American friend and his young child. As they talked, the little boy (jump) up and down on the bed—this was quite dangerous. Feng decided (stop) him, so he smiled at the boy, "Hey, boy! Are you trying to reach the sky by (you)? Will you return to the earth?" His friend understood at once, and said to his son jokingly, " an amazing journey you are having! But now, let's come back at once!"
Although different people may have a different sense of humour, good humour has something common. You need to keep a cool head and an open mind. Humour brings (happy) to others. And sometimes it can let your friend save face.

However, the (机会)to work as a firefighter is not easy to get even after you finish your course. It seems that lots of women aren't (准备好)to do that. At Communication Today, we asked some people for their opinions on social media. Here's what a few people said.
Name
Opinion
Maya
If you ask me, I think social media is great! I like posting photos of the places I' ve been to, the people I' ve met and even the meals I' ve eaten! I generally check(查看)my social media a few times every day. And if something good has happened, I can congratulate them right away. I'm actually quite shy when I'm with a group of people, but on social media I feel much more confident about sharing my news and my ideas.
Olly
I don't like the idea of strangers reading about me, so I'm very careful about who I connect with. I think social media can sometimes be used for posting unkind things about other people. And I' ve heard about bullying(欺凌)on social media, too——that's just terrible.
Rose
In my view, many people waste a lot of time on social media. They don't go out and exercise as much as they should——they like to spend time on the social media! I think some people have "FOMO"——a fear(担忧)of missing out. Usually, the posts that people put up on social media make their lives seem exciting and fun. I think that's a bit sad.
Eric
For me, social media is a good way to keep up with what's going on in my town and around the world. I'm in a number of groups with people who have interests just like mine. I' ve met some interesting people and made some good friends through social media.
A. I never use social media.
B. They worry that they are missing out on all the fun.
C. I like to keep in touch with what my friends are doing.
D. I like sharing opinions and ideas with people who think like me.
E. In my opinion, people should be careful about using social media.
Do you prefer talking with your friends on social media or face to face? Why?(回答不超过20词)

12、阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Could it be possible to spend your nights sleeping thousands of times, each time for only four seconds(秒)? Does it sound like a terrible dream?
Well, that's exactly how chinstrap penguin(帽带企鹅) parents sleep.
Like other penguins, chinstrap penguins spend much of their time in the water, catching fish to eat. But when the time comes to raise their young, they return to land. They lay eggs in nests(巢) made of small rocks. One parent keeps the nest safe, while the other hunts for food. For one thing, brown skuas(贼鸥) like to attack(攻击) the eggs and young penguins.
Besides, other penguins nearby may take rocks from the nest, putting the young in danger. It can be dangerous for the young if their parents get a good night's sleep. However, staying awake for 24 hours a day is hard for penguin parents.
Faced with these challenges, chinstrap penguins have found an unusual way to solve the problem. When scientists first noticed chinstrap penguins kept blinking(眨眼)their eyes, they wondered if more was happening than just blinking. So they studied the brain activity of the penguins and recorded the birds on video. The study showed that the tired parents were actually sleeping very often and for very short time! Each sleep lasts only about four seconds. By taking over 10, 000 microsleeps a day, the penguins get a total of about 11 hours of sleep a day. How amazing!
It's not certain if the microsleeps help the penguins feel truly rested, or if they' re just enough to keep them going. The scientists don't know if the penguins sleep this way at other times of the year, or only when they' re raising their young. They also don't know if other kinds of penguins have similar sleeping habits. Further research is needed to learn more about these flightless birds.
(1)、How long do chinstrap penguins sleep a day by taking microsleeps?A、For 4 seconds. B、About 11 hours. C、Up to 24 hours. D、Over 10, 000 seconds.(2)、How did the scientist find the microsleeping of chinstrap penguins?A、By mistake. B、By asking bird-lovers for help. C、By doing research on their brains. D、By taking photos of their babies.(3)、According to the passage, what challenges do chinstrap penguin parents face when raising their young?①Hunting for food could put them in danger.
②They might be unable to stay awake all day.
③Skuas may attack the eggs and young penguins.
④Other penguins may take rocks from their nest.
A、②③④ B、①②③ C、①②④ D、①③④(4)、How do chinstrap penguins sleep at other times of the year?A、The same way. B、For a longer time. C、For a shorter time. D、Scientists are still not sure. -
13、阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
①Some people like having instant noodles(方便面) as a quick lunch— others enjoy them while traveling through the air. But some passengers on Korean Air can't do this anymore. The airline has taken its much-loved instant noodles off its economy(经济舱) menu.
②The reason? Turbulence(气流). Turbulence on planes has gone up by as much as 55% over the past 40years, a 2023 UK study found. And Korean Air said the number of times its flights(航班) have experienced turbulence has doubled since 2019.
③The airline said that this, along with little space in the walkways and passengers sitting close together, could raise the danger of passengers being burned(烫伤) by hot water in cups of instant noodles. In June 2024, a passenger traveling on an Air New Zealand flight was burned when turbulence caused a full pot of coffee to fall from the drinks holder. Later in early July, a woman sued(起诉) US airline JetBlue after being badly burned by hot tea during turbulence.
④Instant noodles were part of Korean Air's in-flight menu, and were given for free on longer flights before. But since August 15, 2024, economy passengers have found other foods— like sandwiches and pizza— on the menu instead of instant noodles. Passengers in business and first class are still able to enjoy instant noodles, however. That's because the possibility of these passengers being burned is lower.
⑤Online, people have mixed feelings about the decision(决定). Some don't agree with it, saying the airline has kept other foods that could make burns happen, like tea and coffee. But others agree with Korean Air, with some saying they' re often worried about getting burned, and others saying they don't like the smell of the instant noodles anyway.
(1)、When did Korean Air stop offering instant noodles to economy class passengers?A、In 2019. B、In 2023. C、In June 2024. D、In August, 2024.(2)、Why does the writer mention the numbers and the example in Paragraph②and ③?A、To introduce the danger of fire. B、To compare the burn accidents of different airlines. C、To show the importance of offering passenger snacks. D、To explain the reasons for not offering instant noodles on planes.(3)、Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A、Passengers prefer tea and coffee to instant noodles. B、Passengers in business and first class can still eat instant noodles. C、Korean Air offers other noodles instead of sandwiches and pizza. D、No passengers on Korean Air are worried about of being burned now.(4)、What's the last paragraph mainly about?A、Who made the decision. B、Why the airline made the decision. C、What people think of the decision. D、How we can benefit from the decision. -
