Dr. Carl Allamby used to be a car repair man. While he was running his two shops at age 34, he thought about starting a business management degree  accident.

Fungus(真菌) from King Tut's Tomb: A New Hope for Cancer Treatment?

Could a deadly fungus become a lifesaver in fighting cancer? Scientists say a fungus linked to the"pharaoh's curse"(法老的诅咒) in King Tutankhamun's tomb might open the door to a new way to treat cancer. 

When some researchers opened the pharaoh's tomb in Egypt in 1922, many died in the years later. People thought they were killed by a magical curse from the pharaoh who wanted to protect his treasures. Years later, in 1973, 12 researchers entered the tomb in a small country far from Egypt. A King who died 500 years earlier was buried in it. Within weeks, 10 of them died. From then on, people started searching for the cause of these deaths. 

Scientists now think a fungus caused some of these deaths. Both tombs had a harmful fungus called Aspergillus flavus. It might have made the researchers sick. The fungus grows in soil and is common in crops. The harmful things it makes can cause illness or death, especially for people in poor health. The fungus can even stay inactive for thousands of years. 

But recently, an international team of scientists has discovered that the fungus also makes something that could fight cancer. Through hard work, scientists learned that these useful chemicals are made inside the fungus's cells. Then, they took out the chemicals and change them to work better in a lab. After testing many times, the scientists found that this"curse fungus"makes something that might fight cancer. 

In the test, they took four different compounds(化合物) from the fungus and tested them on cancer cells. When tested on human cancer cells, two of the four compounds worked powerfully against leukaemia cells—a kind of cancer that influences healthy blood cells. 

"Nature has given us this amazing ' medical store', "says Sherry Gao, who has been studying this research. "It's our job to find out its secrets. "

When it was 5:45, the sun rose over Gombe National Park in East Africa. Our group went to the forest to watch chimps (黑猩猩) with Jane Goodall. She had been studying these chimp families for years.    ①

Why did many Chinese people cry during military parades（阅兵）which was held on September 3, 2025 in Tian' anmen Square? To people outside China, it may be difficult (understand) why military parades can bring tears to our eyes. But it's more than just a parade—it's a moment full  memories, history, and emotion. 

For a long time in history, China was weak and divided. Foreign soldiers once marched through Chinese cities. We had little power to protect ourselves and were often (look) down upon by other nations. Those were times of hardship and humiliation. 

But now, everything has changed. When we watch the military parade, we see lines of Chinese soldiers walking (proud) and confidently. We see modern weapons made by China. We hear the loud sound of our fighter planes in  sky. 

These are not just shows of power— they are signs of how much we have achieved. They mean peace, (safe), and respect. For many Chinese, especially older people  lived through difficult times, this is very touching. We cry not because we are sad,  because we are proud and relieved. 

We feel that our nation has finally stood up. We remember the past, but we also see how much (strong) we have become today. 

It is a way to heal, to regain dignity (尊严), and to say to the world and ourselves:"We are powerful now. " That's  we cry— tears of hope, strength, and national pride. 

This year is special for China's math world, all because of an amazing woman—Wang Hong. Wang was born in 1991 in Guilin. She showed an unusual talent for math at an early age. When she was five years old, she had already finished the first-grade math and moved straight to the （第二）grade. 

Some people think talent makes life easy, but Wang's path was far from smooth. In middle school, her grades were not good at first—she （失败）to make the top 100. She felt disappointed, but she didn't give up. Instead, she worked hard with great （力气；努力）, and later became one of the top ten students in her grade. At sixteen, she entered Peking University to learn more about math.

I have the worst name in the world—Tom T. Terdle, which sounds like"Tom the Turtle（海龟）". Kids always made fun of it. Because of my dad's job, we moved often. And each time, I faced 1 nicknames and sometimes fights.
