What secrets are hidden in this small stone?

 One day，he found a small yellow stone. It looked like amber. He knew amber came from ancient trees. Did that mean his hometown was once a forest?With a magnifier，he watched the stone closely. Inside，he saw a tiny insect. Could it be a new species from millions of years ago?Later，a biologist proved David's guesses were right. The amber unlocked the secrets of nature. How amazing!

Mary did an experiment to explore nature. She wondered why green leaves turn yellow in autumn. Mary asked her brother about it.  So she put green leaves in alcohol（酒精），and then put a paper strip inside. After a few minutes，the paper showed green，yellow，and orange. These colours hide in leaves!When the green disappears in autumn，the other colours will show.

②Shellears are small freshwater fish. About 17 years ago，a scientist noticed thousands of these fish climbing the Luvilombo waterfall. He even filmed it，but later lost the video. However，his reports got the attention of another researcher—Pacifique Mutambala. Mr. Mutambala then went to Luvilombo Falls to check the story of the climbing fish. What he saw amazed him. Small fish were holding on to the rock behind the falling water，making their way up the 15-meter waterfall. 

③The scientists studied the fish. They learned that the shellears climb by pushing up with their back fins （鱼鳍） and using their front fins to hold onto the rock；their front fins have tiny hooks. They move almost like swimming straight up. 

④Shellears perform this at the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the dry season. The movement reaches a peak by mid-April. The number of climbing fish goes up as the day ends，at sunset，and then goes down again when the sun comes out. 

⑤When climbing，the fish take short breaks for 15 to 60 seconds，and longer breaks are 2 to 15 minutes，or even an hour or more!This shows that climbing upward uses a lot of energy，and the fish need longer rest time to get their energy back. It takes a fish 9 hours and 45 minutes to climb the whole height of the waterfall. That means a fish needs almost a whole day or night to get to the top!The climb is not easy at all. In fact，some fish may fall down suddenly and get washed back to the bottom of the fall!

⑥It's still not very clear why the fish climb up. There may be some reasons for it. 

In recent years，artificial intelligence （AI） has influenced our lives a lot. Scientists have developed a new AI model to change the way teenagers learn. It makes lessons more lively and efficient. 

This AI model uses a special technology. It shows two key parts of learning：what students are like and what learning materials （材料） they use. It collects 42 different kinds of information to build a model for every student. So the AI model can choose the best learning materials for each student by itself. 

The AI model works in two smart ways. First，it uses a special way to connect different pieces of information，so it can understand students'needs clearly. Second，it uses a knowledge map to connect every learning material to the skills students need to learn. 

The results are amazing!The AI model can correctly find out good learning materials most of the time. Its performance is 23. 5% better than old common ways. Students can learn knowledge 37. 2%more quickly. Also，more students form good learning habits，and this number has developed by 41. 3%. Now 87. 6% of students can finish their lessons successfully. 

What's more，the AI model helps teachers too. It helps them cut down some useless learning materials and makes their work much easier. This shows that AI can be a great tool for education. It is a useful way to make lessons easier and more interesting for students all over the world. 

Most people see plastic bottles as rubbish，but 14-year-old Li Zihan from Shenzhen sees them as a chance to help the environment. Every week，she spends her weekends collecting used plastic bottles from her neighborhood. But she doesn't just recycle them — she turns them into useful things. 

Two years ago，Li learned that millions of plastic bottles end up in the ocean every year，harming sea animals. She decided to do something. After watching online videos，she taught herself how to cut，melt，and reshape（重塑） plastic bottles into flower pots，pencil cases，and even small chairs. So far，she has made over 200 items from more than 3，000 bottles. 

Her story spread quickly after a local TV station reported on her work. Last month，she was invited to speak at a school environmental forum（论坛）. "One person's action may seem small，but if everyone does a little，we can make a big difference，" she said.

Do you like travelling by train? It used to be very tiring in the past, but things(change) a lot over the past 10 years. 

This April, a five-star tourist train set off from Wuhan, Hubei with a total of 172 tourists. It is possible for them (visit) many places in Yunnan and Guizhou. 

This tourist train was developed by China Railway Wuhan Group. It used to be a traditional green train known for(it) slow speed (速度), low price and small space.

During the Northern Song Dynasty, there lived a man named Cheng Yi. He was a famous educator and . Many young people him for his wisdom.

We often see children as "the flowers of the country". A great Chinese man spent his life 1 these flowers. He was Gu Fangzhou, a virologist (病毒学家) known as "the grandpa of the sugar pill". 

The story goes back to the 1950s. At that time, polio (小儿麻痹症) 2 quickly across China. The 3 mainly affected young children and many lost their lives. For a time, the word "polio" alone was enough to fill people with 4 .

◆ What quality do you think teenagers need most in today's society?

I'd say resilience (适应力). For example, they experience peer pressure, endless comparison driven by social media, and an uncertain future. They need the ability to bounce back (恢复) quickly when life gets hard. Resilience isn't about never falling down; it's about getting back up. 

◆ How is this quality reflected (体现) in real life?

For example, someone loses a competition, but learns from it and tries again. Some people are left out by their friend group, but make an effort to build new, healthy relationships. Resilience shows up when you choose to try again while your feelings tell you to give up.

Resilience is built through challenges. Start by taking some small risks. Take part in a competition you've never tried before. Start a conversation with someone outside your usual circle. Each time you take a small step forward, you build resilience. 

◆ What can parents and schools do to provide support for teenagers?

Don't rush to help! If adults hurry to fix every problem, teenagers will never develop the ability to deal with difficulties themselves. Stay by their side, but don't do everything for them.

④ Inspiration helps leaders build strong relationships and learn more about themselves. Great leaders inspire others by sharing their values and future plans. When you inspire people, you create trust. Team members start believing in each other's abilities. This trust builds lasting relationships. Some people might not have become friends without your leadership. At the same time, inspiring others helps you discover your own strengths, weaknesses, and values. You also learn how well you communicate. If people don't respond (反应) well, you can improve your way of leading. 

⑤You don't need to be famous to inspire people. Start by being a good example. Listen more than you talk. Show real care for others. Give people a clear goal and direction. And remember — true inspiration comes from focusing on others, not yourself. When you inspire someone, you give them hope. And hope can change everything. 

In a reading corner at Qixi Township Central School, some students are sitting with tablets (平板电脑) in their hands. Instead of playing games, they are using an AI-powered helper to enjoy classic novels. 

The school is located in a mountainous area in Zhejiang Province, ____ Their grandparents take care of them while their parents work away from home. For years, the school's library had only a few hundred books, and many of them were out of date or not right for young readers. Therefore, the students had few chances to find quality books. 

Change began about a year ago with a digital reading program at village schools across the province. Started in November 2025, the program has provided smart devices (设备) to schools with fewer than 100 students. Now, students in grades four to six at Qixi can use these tools. 

"Digital reading helps solve the problem of not having enough reading materials (材料)," Wang Wenhui, a teacher at the school, said. "With the smart tools, we can choose better books for kids, encouraging them to read more. About half of the students at the school have developed a daily reading habit. "

Similar changes are underway in other parts of China. In Daguan County, Yunnan Province, the local library has introduced e-reading devices and digital services for children. In Guizhou, a digital platform (平台) offers more than one million e-books. Everyone can read them on computers or smartphones for free. 

Digital technology not only offers chances to more children, but also opens a wider world of knowledge for them. 

Jim saw a small red axe (斧头) in the shop. "With it, I can build a house for my dog!" he thought.

"Yes!" Jim said at once. Then he cleaned carefully. When the cleaning was done, the shopkeeper gave him one penny. 

Jim had ten pennies again and finally bought the axe. Holding the axe, he understood that he should think twice before spending his money. Every penny spent carelessly would take him one step further from what he truly wanted.
