How are you doing? I'm writing because I have been a bit stressed 1 , both at home and at school. 

Things with my family are not great. My parents are 2 a lot these days, and it's creating a lot of tension (紧张) at home. It's hard to keep my 3 on anything else when I'm worried about them. I tried talking to them about it. While it didn't solve everything, it did help us 4 a bit better. 

School is stressful. I have so much homework and so many 5 coming up, and I feel like I'm left behind. To finish the homework, I start planning my days better. I write down all my tasks and start with the 6 ones.

Zhao Chengnan is a college student in Hunan Province. Last year, to celebrate her 22nd birthday, she climbed China's"Five Great Mountains"in just five days. 

Zhao began with Mount Hua in Shaanxi Province. She took a 20-hour train ride from Changsha. On April 25, she reached the East Peak of Mount Hua after a four-hour climb. After that, Zhao took a high-speed train to Henan Province for a night climb of Mount Song. She started at1:12a. m. and reached the top of the mountain at 3:32 a. m. 

Following her success at Mount Song, Zhao challenged herself to climbMount Tai in Shandong Province and Mount Heng( 恒山 ) in ShanxiProvince. The final stop at Mount Heng(衡山) in Hunan Province was the most challenging because she was very tired. She spent nearly 4.5hours completing the climb and then returned to her school. 

"It is a birthday gift for me, " Zhao said. "I faced many challenges, including weather, physical condition, and time management. However, Inever gave up. I believe that where there is a will, there is a way. "

People often think of the North Pole ( 北极) and the South Pole as similar frozen(冰冻的) wastelands. They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and SouthPoles are not as similar as people may imagine. 

The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures seldom go above 0℃. Most of the time, it stays below zero. 

Although conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. About 100 years ago, two men, Robert Peary andMatthew Henson, were able to get to this environment full of troubles and difficulties. They reached the North Pole on April 6th, 1909. It was really a hard trip for them. 

There are few things more dangerous than crossing the Arctic (北极圈 ) on foot. They may face many problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Most of the area is uninhabited. Few people can live in such a difficult place. 

People might think that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may often cause many different changes on the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes of water(水道) called"leads". Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes. 

① There may be no place more dangerous than Death Valley(死亡谷) . Death Valley is the hottest and the driest place in North America. 

②Death Valley isn't an easy place to live in. It gets less than two feet of rain a year and it's hot, too. In July, temperature often gets over 46℃. Even a lake there has turned into salt crystals(晶体) . But it is cold at night. When it gets cold enough, the water on the ground will turn into thin ice. Then the strong wind— like a large hand—can move the rocks along the icy ground. That is why the rocks can"walk"on their own in Death Valley. 

③The weather condition in Death Valley is terrible, but there is still full of lives. Nothing can stop plants and animals from making it their home. People have found more than 1, 000 kinds of plants there. It also has51 kinds of mammals(哺乳动物), 6 kinds of fish, and more than 300kinds of birds. The animals aren't all small, either. 

④Finding water is the biggest challenge for anything that lives here. To survive, some plants' roots(根部) can go fifty feet under the ground to find water. Kangaroo rats(更格卢鼠) get the water they need from flowers. 

⑤Death Valley really makes a lot of surprise!
