1、On the Height
The wind so swift, the sky so wide, apes wail and cry;
Water so clear and beach so white, birds wheel and fly.
The boundless forest sheds its leaves shower by shower;
The endless river rolls its waves hour after hour.
A thousand miles from home, I'm grieved at autumn's plight;
I'll now and then for years, alone I'm on this height,
Living in times so hard, at frosted hair I pine;
Cast down by poverty, I have to give up wine.
(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
When Du Fu (712-770) wrote this poem, he was 56 years old and was suffering from illness and poverty. Standing in front of autumn scenery, he recalled his life.
From the first line, we can tell that Du was not in a good mood. The key phrase is "apes wail and cry" (猿啸哀)—only sad ears can hear sad sounds. Then the poet sees a forest of trees that are losing their leaves while the Yangtze River rolls on. The poet uses natural scenery to represent his own sadness.
Despite being a talented scholar, Du's career was still a failure. With little money, he and his family constantly lived in hardship. So what he saw were showers and waves of sadness. Travelling should be fun when you have money and health. Sadly, Du had neither. Du travelled because he needed to keep himself alive. He went to different places to stay with relatives and friends, or to find temporary work. A life full of worries and sorrow turned his hair grey. What's worse, he couldn't even afford the wine he needed to numb (麻痹) his sad feelings. That makes the poem even sadder.
This poem could be seen as the conclusion of a life that was full of ups and downs. Two years after writing this poem, Du passed away.
(1)、How might Du Fu feel when he was travelling?A、Satisfied and relaxed. B、Worried and sad. C、Peaceful and calm. D、Hopeless and bored.(2)、In what way did the poet express his feelings in this poem?A、Personification. B、Putting feelings into natural scenery. C、Comparison. D、Telling stories.(3)、Which of the following rhyme patterns does this poem follow?A、aa-bb-cc-dd B、ab-ab-cd-cd C、ab-cd-ab-cd D、aa-bb-aa-bb -
2、It is widely recognized that consuming carrots benefits our eyes. But according to a study, grapes could be good for eye health as well. A recent study provides encouraging news for individuals trying to enhance their vision, who may not favor carrots.
Scientists from Singapore raised the question whether eating foods rich in antioxidants (抗氧化剂) could influence one's eye health. Given the fact that grapes are full of antioxidants, they made an experiment that was joined in by 34 adults. Half of them had one and a half cups of grapes each day while the others had a placebo (安慰剂) snack, which tasted like grapes but had no antioxidants. The trial lasted 16 weeks. As planned, all participants were blinded: the 34 adults were unaware of whether they were eating the grapes or the placebo snack.
Subsequent analysis revealed that those who ate grapes showed a marked increase in antioxidant capacity and a higher macular pigment optical density (MPOD) (黄斑色素光学密度). The macular pigment plays a crucial role in eye protection against blue light, a lot of which is extensively emitted by digital screens such as those of computers and smartphones. Dr Jung Eun Kim, a researcher of the study, explained that their study was the first to find that eating grapes could improve one's eye health.
Eye health should not be taken for granted. It is important to take action to take good care of one's eyes. Besides eating foods rich in antioxidants, individuals who often face the screen should adopt protective habits. It is important to take breaks once in a while. Experts commonly recommend the 20-20-20 rule: for every 20 minutes in front of a screen, one should spend 20 seconds looking at something 20 feet away.
(1)、What was the primary objective of the Singaporean researchers' study?A、See what carrots and grapes have in common. B、Find out whether eating foods rich in antioxidants influences eye health. C、Check whether the placebo snack is harmful to people's health. D、Prove why grapes are better than carrots for people.(2)、Which of the following about the adults in the experiment is TRUE?A、They were divided into three groups. B、They formed a habit of eating grapes. C、They weren't told exactly what to eat. D、They knew their eye health could improve a lot.(3)、What can we know about the macular pigment?A、It mainly exists in daily food. B、It plays a role in protecting eyes. C、It helps people see more blue light. D、It harms people's antioxidant abilities.(4)、What is the main idea of the last paragraph?A、The advice on eye health care. B、Some ways to choose places to study. C、The importance of protecting our eyes. D、The influence of foods on eye health. -

Nobody likes making mistakes. But no one is perfect. Unless you learn from mistakes correctly, they will move you1.
If you have made mistakes that hurt other people, it is important to offer a sincere apology in person. A good apology will probably make the other person forgive you. If you2 to apologize, the person hurt by you will hold it against you.
If you are afraid to make a mistake, you will spend most of your life doing nothing. There is no harm in making mistakes. It is a3 part of growing up. The more duties you take, the4 likely you are to make mistakes.
Unluckily, it is our natural instinct (本能) to justify (为……辩解) our actions. When you make a mistake, you will first5 someone else. Anyway, when mistakes are made, the boss won't be interested in your justifications. So sometimes it is best to6, very simply—yes, I made a mistake.
Mistakes happen for different reasons. To avoid repeating them, you need to understand the main reason. For example, you may have made a mistake by7 some unkind words. If you make mistakes because you are tired, try to get more sleep, and8 you are stressed, look for ways to relax and keep away from the stress of work.
You should avoid feeling guilty about making mistakes, but at the same time, you should9 your mind to learn from them. If you repeat the same mistakes, it shows you aren't making progress and they cause repeated suffering. Often mistakes are caused by bad habits. To avoid making the same mistakes, you need to10 these bad habits. The sooner, the better.

The documentary Born in China1 in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (青藏高原) and shows animals' amazing lives during different seasons.
It not only brings the lives of animals to audiences2 are rarely seen in the wild but also shows traditional Chinese culture. The film mainly focuses on life and love within three animal families—giant pandas, golden monkeys and snow leopards.
As a symbol of China, the giant panda is both black and white. Its body is thought to show yin and yang. The panda's gentle nature also shows3 yin and yang lead to peace and harmony when4 balanced. This can be seen in the documentary when a mother giant panda guides her baby to gradually5 independence and explore the world.
Monkeys always have strong personalities. The best example6 be the Monkey King, a character from the novel7 to the West. On the one hand, he stands for impatience. But on the other hand, he shows cleverness and energy. Born in China follows a little golden monkey who feels like his life has been changed8 than before after his new baby sister was born. He quickly joins up with five9 free-spirited (无拘无束的) monkeys, running away from home together,10, he finally returns to his family and understands what responsibility11.
The documentary also takes12 close look at the life of snow leopards. A mother snow leopard is found13 to protect and raise her two children while facing challenges from constant danger in a harsh environment, but she never gives up easily. The leopards, known for their rapid attacks and quick footwork, have inspired a form of pictographic boxing (象形拳) in Shaolin martial arts, which is becoming more and more popular14 people in China and even around the world.
If you love animals, don't miss the documentary Born in China. "Born in China is a way to show Chinese traditional culture," director Lu told the Binhai Times newspaper, "From five-animal exercises to pictographic boxing, Chinese people have learned from wild animals15 ancient times."

18、Velvet flowers making, created in Tang Dynasty, is a traditional and famous art in Nanjing. The Chinese pronunciation of velvet flowers, "ronghua", is similar to another expression with good meaning. So, it is widely used during some important events. Luckily, more and more young craftsmen are trying to save it. Murong Yi is one of them.
Recently, she shared a video of making a velvet flower online and the video soon got many likes. Murong's artwork was made of 4,000 pieces of cocoon fiber in 12 days, but generally, it only takes two to three days to make a common one. For beginners, it's still a big challenge. . "I started to learn about it five or six years ago from some TV shows, but I found it's useless," she said. An inheritor carefully showed how to make velvet flowers in that TV show. Buying materials is another problem. Velvet flowers making needs copper wires. One key step is to choose the size. With little experience, Murong had to learn from failures and tried again and again.
When Murong became a skilled craftswoman, she opened an online store to sell the materials and her products. By doing this, Murong hoped more people would love velvet flowers making.
A. Velvet flowers making is an endangered folk art.
B. Murong at first tried to learn from online videos.
C. Even one millimeter (一毫米) will lead to a different shape.
D. It means good luck and best wishes.
E. Finally, she found a one-hour TV program.

20、Does life sometimes seem to be full of impossible problems? How many times, for example, do you find yourself saying things like "I really don't understand this maths problem", or "I can't get into the school team"? Well, maybe it's time to introduce yourself to the power of "yet". By adding this simple word, you can change everything. "I really don't understand this maths problem yet." "I can't get into the school team yet." Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. You can imagine those things happening.
I read about a school that has changed the way it marks its students' exams. The school found out that the old "pass/fail system" wasn't helping students' motivation (积极性). If you passed, then great, but those students who didn't pass often felt like failures. So now students who don't pass the exams will not see a big red F on their papers; they see a "Not yet" instead. That way the students feel that they are on a journey. They haven't reached the end, but they know that they are going the right way.
This kind of thinking is part of what experts call "having a growth mindset". People with a growth mindset don't concentrate on failure. They aren't worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do. They enjoy the challenge and believe they can change. In contrast, people who just focus on the failure have what the experts call "a fixed mindset". These people are always worried about failure and are happy to give up when things don't go right. They don't think that they are able to change. Clearly, it is better to have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset.
But don't worry if you think that you have a fixed mindset. ★ Remember that it all starts with questioning the things you believe about yourself. Stop believing that you can't or you haven't and realize that you just can't or haven't yet. Once you start doing this, you'll wonder why you didn't do it before. It's one small but very powerful word.
(1)、The example in Paragraph 2 is to ______.A、express a feeling B、describe a problem C、show the result D、support the topic(2)、According to the passage, which one of the following has "a growth mindset"?A、Jack got an "A" in the exam. He was quite happy to tell his parents. B、David failed in a competition, but he stayed confident and kept trying. C、Jenny found it hard to work out the maths problem, so she gave it up. D、Emma was refused by the school team. She didn't want to have another try.(3)、Which of the following can be put into ★ ?A、Experts will help you grow up healthily in mind. B、You can train yourself to develop a growth mindset. C、Everyone has his own advantages and disadvantages. D、You can change everything by adding the small word "yet".(4)、Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A、The Power of "Yet" B、Two Different Mindsets C、Nothing is Impossible D、On the Journey with Yet
