Mother's Day originated (起源) in America in the early 20 th century and spread to China in the 1980s. It was  (wide) accepted. Why does Mother's Day become popular in China? In fact traditional Chinese culture (encourage) filial devotion (孝敬) to mothers for thousands of years.

People often use all kinds of flowers (express) love to mothers. Carnations (康乃馨) (consider) the perfect flowers to mothers around the world.

Love for mothers can have (difference) ways of expression. What matters most is love, not the special day (it).

Born in 1979, Hong Jiaguang grew up in a poor village family in Liaoning. Though his parents struggled to make ends meet, young Hong loved taking apart old radios and machines to see how they worked. Sometimes this made his parents upset, but nothing could stop his passion（激情）.

In 2019, the U. S. offered Hong $10 million yearly to work there. But Hong refused, saying firmly: "I'm Chinese. My skills belong to my country." His choice showed deep love for his motherland, China.

As students in Grade 9, it is important for you to learn faster. Following good and effective learning practices helps you learn something more quickly.

Tell yourself you can do it.

If you think you can learn something, you're more likely to succeed. When you have negative (消极的) thought about learning, push it back!  With a positive mindset (观念模式), you'll be more eager to learn so you're able to get the new knowledge even faster.

Take handwritten notes.

You're more likely to remember something you've written down. If you're learning something online or from a book, rewrite what you read in your own words. That way, you can understand it better.

Say it out loud.

Repeating the information helps you remember it easily. Go slowly through the text so you don't miss anything important. The more you say the information out loud, the easier it gets to pull it off the top of your head.

Teach the information to someone else.

 You have to actively recall the information you will teach. What's more, try to tell them in a clear and direct way, so that you don't confuse them. Then it's easier for you to learn the subject more quickly.

Time planning is a key skill for middle school students, especially in Grade 9. You should balance schoolwork and break. Short breaks always help your brain stay focused and reduce stress, so you'll have more time for both schoolwork and break!

Paul Shuttleworth received a special New Year gift—expensive glasses. Though they don't improve his eyesight, they help him "hear" better. The glasses show real-time subtitles (字幕) on their lenses (镜片), allowing Paul to join conversations easily, which was difficult for him before. The glasses work by listening to people's words and turning them into text he can read.

Real-time captioning (实时字幕生成) isn't new. Many people with hearing difficulties use phone apps to see conversations as text. However, these apps aren't perfect. Users must keep looking between their phone screens and the person speaking, which is tiring.

Dan Scarfe, a tech company CEO, says better software now makes tools like captioning glasses possible. He believes a perfect device for real-time captioning will be ready soon. But the biggest challenge, he says, is getting people to use it often.

Still, captioning glasses aren't perfect. In noisy places like busy restaurants, people with hearing loss find it hard to follow conversations. The glasses meet the same difficulty too. Background noise remains a major problem the technology hasn't solved.

Many deaf people are excited about this tool, but some have worries. They think these glasses might replace sign language interpreters (手语翻译). While captions show words, interpreters can express feelings, tone of voice, and even show who is speaking. This makes communication deeper and clearer.

Nanlao Spring(难老泉) is a famous 2,400-year-old spring in Shanxi province, China. The poet Li Bai described its water as "clean like jade". But in the 1990s, the spring dried up because people used too much groundwater and dug too many coal mines(煤矿) nearby. To save the spring, the government closed nearby coal mines and factories that wasted water. After 30 years of hard work, the water returned in May 2023. Nanlao Spring has come back to life!

Zhai Tianhu, an 82-year-old man who grew up near the spring, is excited. "The water is strong now. It makes me happy to see it again," he said. The spring's return helped Jinci Temple, a historic site built over 2,000 years ago during the Western Zhou Dynasty, become a top tourist spot in China. Experts check the water every day to keep it clean and safe.

Shanxi is called the "water tower of North China" because it supplies water to big cities like Beijing. Local leaders said protecting Nanlao Spring shows their success in saving nature. "This spring holds special memories for our people," said Liu Yuwei, a cultural official. Visitors love the spring's beauty and the temple's ancient trees. One tourist, Zheng Weihua, said, "The fresh air and history here are impressive!"

The revival(重生) of Nanlao Spring gives hope for protecting nature across China. It reminds everyone that caring for the environment can bring lost treasures back to life.

On the coast of Brazil fishermen and wild dolphins (海豚) always make the team. It has been  hundreds of years—a wonderful partnership between humans and nature!

Here's how this magical teamwork goes: Dolphins swim circles to push fishes toward fishermen who are waiting with nets. When the fishes swim together, the dolphins swing tails nod heads. This special signal tells fishermen to close their nets quickly. As the net s close, dolphins can catch escaping fish and get an easy meal they are helping fishermen catch much more fish! Both sides win!

Scientists found these dolphins teach their young the special "tail-slapping and head-nodding" skills. Fishermen even name them "sea partners". "It's like working with old friends who can understand you well without any words," local fisherman said.

This tradition continues today, proving that trust between humans and nature creates wonders.

Trees are our friends. They help us in many ways. First, they clean our air because they take in h gases and produce oxygen for us to breathe. Second, they help reduce noise pollution and cool our cities and make our cities beautiful. They keep soil from being washed away. F , they provide a lot of things for people. For e , they provide us with food. They also provide wood for houses, f and paper products. We can't imagine a world w trees. Let's protect them. 

Farming has always been a countryside thing. But now, farms are coming to the balconies(阳台) of city flats. 

According to a recent report, sales of vegetable seeds on the Internet in the first quarter of 2024 doubled compared with the same period in 2023. Of these buyers, most were born after1995. 

Mr. Zhang from Anhui Province is one young "city farmer". The senior high school student said his love for planting was formed in primary school, when he lived with his grandpa in the countryside. He learned to grow vegetables from his grandpa, who has been a farmer for life. Though farming takes hard work, Zhang said he felt excited when he saw seeds turn into plants. 

Now Zhang still keeps up his hobby with a balcony garden. He grows strawberries and carrots."(B)Growing fruits and vegetables not only brings delicious food, but it also reminds me of the happy times with my grandpa, " said Zhang. 

Unlike Zhang, Miss Fang from Shenzhen thinks that planting a garden is a good way to relax and develop patience. 

The 16-year-old girl sometimes felt stressed. To deal with this, she started planting vegetables on her balcony in 2022. Most of the seeds were given to her by friends. Not knowing what plants the seeds were from, she just planted them and waited patiently. After half a year, her balcony became a small garden. 

Every day it takes her long hours to do homework. Then she likes to walk around her balcony garden. "Seeing different colors and breathing fresh air, I feel closer to nature, " Fang said. 

Planting vegetables is now more than just a way to live. It also brings joy to the lives of the young.
