Sam Scott and his sister Ann are students. Sam always goes to school by bus, and Ann does, too. They   (从不) walk to school. But some of their friends   (步行) to school every day. Sam and Ann get home at a   (一刻钟) past four in the afternoon. They do   (家庭作业) before dinner.  (有时) they watch TV after dinner. They always go to bed  (早).

My father died when I was 5. My brother, who is 8 years older than me, began to take care of my mother and me.

My mother was forced to (被迫) get a full - time job.  He would get me up for school and make me breakfast. While I was eating, he would do other things for me. As we waited for the school bus, he would play the games my father used to play with me.   When we arrived home from school, he would help me with my homework and help mum cook.

It was a Saturday in June a couple years later. My mother and I were at a store. They had the Father's Day cards out. I looked at them. My mum said, "Honey, I know this is a hard time for you." I said, "   Why don't they have 'brother's day' cards as well?"

She smiled and said, "You're right. Your brother has certainly been a father to you. Go ahead and pick out a card."

So I did. On Father's Day, my mother and I sat my brother down and gave him the card.   I heard the cracking (哽咽) in mum's voice as she said: "Son, your father is proud of you. You do your best to fill his shoes. We love you, and thank you."

Can you imagine we fly to school or anywhere else? Most of us still get to work and school by car and bus on the ground. Some of us dream of a day when we can fly over the ground. Scientists say the dream will come true in 2081 because the flying cars will be invented in the future. Most people will drive a flying car, not only in movies, but also in real life.

These helicopter - like cars will be able to fly themselves with two or more passengers.

In the 3D space of air, flying cars will move around without bridges or tunnels. Cars will park (泊车) on the tops of houses or on the grass. This will free up parking space on the ground. Also, we won't spend much time on our way because we will get somewhere faster and spend more time doing the things we like.

We will be able to sleep in more before school because the flying cars will get us to school faster than normal buses. We will be able to get home faster because there will be fewer traffic jams in the air.

Some people think flying cars are not a good idea. It will be dangerous for flying cars to fall out of the sky. Maybe many people will lose their lives because of this.

It is easy to believe that the daily life of a plant is simple and boring. They seem to just stand there and take a sunbath. In fact, however, plants are always busy doing many things. Measuring (测量) light is one of them. This helps plants to plan better for the future.

Plants have to measure the changes in the amount (数量) of daylight. This helps them to tell what time of the year it is. If a plant is beginning to get more daylight, it knows it's spring. Because of this, it may then start producing flowers. If the amount of daylight starts to get low, the plant knows that autumn is coming. It may start to store "food" for its growth. The potato plant, for example, will make tubers (块茎) — the potatoes that we eat.

Plants record (记录) not only the amount of daylight they receive, but also the quality (质量) of light. Some types of light can better help plants grow. Direct (直接的) sunlight, for example, works better than light that is shaded by other plants. It may then begin to grow taller or produce larger leaves in order to get more sunlight.

Ma Yo - Yo was born in 1955 to Chinese parents living in Paris. His mother was a singer and his father was a composer and music teacher. In the beginning, Ma and his elder sister learnt music from his father.

At the age of 3, Ma began to have violin lessons. Then, he learned to play the cello (大提琴) when he was 4 years old. At five, he could play three of Bach's solo suites (组曲). It was not an easy childhood, but Ma said his father's teaching played an important role in his early success.

When he was 7, Ma moved with his family to New York. At a young age, Ma had already been famous and successful in classical music. The child went to the Juilliard School and continued (继续) his study of music. Later, Ma wanted to experience life besides music, so he didn't go to a musical college. He went to Harvard University (哈佛大学) at 16.

After finishing his study in Harvard in 1976, Ma was ready to enter a new stage (阶段) in his life. But instead, it came to a halt when there was something wrong with his back. He had to rest for months and couldn't play during that time. Luckily, the operation (手术) turned out to be a success. From then on, he started his career (事业) as a musician. He became one of the greatest musicians in the world.

If you are a nature (love), you can visit Sentosa Island. It is a beautiful island near Singapore with lovely beaches  a big water park. It is a great place (relax) and have fun in the sun. And if you want to learn more about Singapore's history, you can visit the Singapore History Museum. It tells the story of how Singapore  (become) a great city.
