A few months ago, I read a book.  So I started cleaning out and got a lot of things that I didn't need. And then I thought about what to do with them. 

This made me think of a kind of special sale. It helps people clean out their houses and turn things into money to help homeless children all over the world.  So I asked my boys for help, and they loved the idea of helping others. 

They walked from door to door to ask the neighbors for the things they didn't need.  At last, however, we had ten boxes full of different things. 

It was time for the yard sale. Although we had ads in newspapers and online, I was still not sure whether anyone would come.  I planned to get ￥400 to ￥500 that day. At last we got ￥768. 12! We sent money to the poor children in Haiti. Thanks for all the people who have helped us. 

 Everyone should try his or her best to help those in need. 
 

Bob left Mr Wang's classroom feeling like a loser. His teacher wrote a big "F" on his Chinese paper. Failure seemed to be all that he had in Chinese. He knew that he was in great trouble. He had a conversation with Mr Wang. He shared his experience with Mr Wang and asked, "Can you give me one good reason not to give up?"

"Look," Mr Wang said, "Do you see that fern (蕨类植物) and bamboo there?" "Yes," Bob answered. 

"When I planted the fern and bamboo seeds, I watered them carefully. Within a few days, the fern quickly grew from the land," Mr Wang went on. 

"I watered the bamboo seed for years, but it still didn't sprout (发芽). But I didn't give up and went on looking after it. In the fifth year, a small sprout came out of the land. Within six months, the tree grew a hundred feet tall. 

"The little bamboo tree had been growing underground in the past four years, developing a root strong enough for its ground growth in the fifth year. If it hadn't done this, it would not be so strong. So you know, all the time you were trying, you were actually growing strong roots," Mr Wang said. 

Bob kept listening and thinking. He was sure that he got every word the teacher said. Gradually, a smile spread slowly across his face. With hope, he left the teacher's office. 

Why is setting goals (目标) important? Because goals can help you do everything you want in life. 

Successful people in life think how their life should be and set lots of goals. By setting goals, you can make your own life. It's like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of it in this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination (目的地) in mind, and he can find it on a map. He can drive there easily. The other driver has no goal or map. He starts off at the same time from the same place. But he drives around, never getting anywhere, just using up fuel (用尽燃料). Which driver do you want to be?

Successful people set goals and follow them. They decide what they want in life and then get it by setting goals and making plans. Unsuccessful people don't think goals are important. They just let things happen by accident (偶然地). Goals aren't difficult to set, and they aren't difficult to reach. It's up to you to find out what your goals really are. 

A study shows that when we write a goal down, it's possible for us to reach it. We may read the written goals at any time.  ▲  Also when you write your goals in your own way, you are making yourself closer to your goal by working hard. 

Let's be real—stopping my own excuses has been a long, bumpy road. I used to be that person who could talk myself out of almost anything. "I'll work out tomorrow. " or "It's just not a good time. " —I had a mental library of these little excuses that kept me from actually doing what I wanted. Even simple tasks like cleaning my room felt like climbing a mountain. Last year, my messy desk even caused me to lose an important homework sheet before class. The teacher's disappointed look still stings when I think about it. 

The turning point came when I realised that my unfinished chores and delayed study plans created low-level stress that I couldn't shake. So I decided to try something different. 

I started making deals with myself to just do a tiny bit. "You only have to fold five shirts," I'd whisper, dragging myself out of bed. To my surprise, folding those five shirts made me notice the wrinkled jackets nearby. Before I knew it, the whole closet was organised! The same trick worked for homework. "Just solve two maths problems," I'd say, and soon I'd finish the entire worksheet. My grades began to climb like vines (藤) in spring. 

Then, I learned to gently call myself out. When I spoke to myself, "I'll practice piano tomorrow. " my inner voice would respond, "Remember how happy you felt after last week's performance?" I kept a small notebook to track completed tasks, each check mark feeling like a gold star. Even my best friend noticed the change. 

Yes, I still have lazy days. Last week I skipped jogging to watch cartoons. But the next morning, I put on my sneakers and walked just one lap around the park. By sunset, I'd accidentally completed three laps. Now do better instead of waiting for motivation. The road to beating excuses isn't about running fast, but about taking that first tiny step. 

The way you look is special. Do you know what I mean by that? We all look a little different. Some of us are tall. Some of us are fat. The point is, all of us have our own look—our own face. 

Sometimes, we might feel bad about looking different. We might feel like we look ugly or weird (怪异的). But our differences are what make us special. 

I recently watched a speech by a man named Robert Hoge. Hoge was born with a strange-looking face. His mother worried about the difficulties he would face in life. 

But Hoge didn't give up. Strangers would stare at (盯着看) him or even make fun of him. But he didn't care. He decided to own his face and feel confident (自信的) in himself. He has gone on to live an amazing life. 

It's hard when you feel like you don't look "normal (正常的)" or "perfect (完美的)". But the truth is, no one is perfect. The important thing to remember is that you are special, no matter what you look like. 

I dreamed of being a football star when I was a high school student. During my first year there I was a very 1 boy. I was only 50 kg. I joined in some football games but spent most of my time 2 on the bench（替补队员席）. So I decided to do 3 .

It was cold last Friday. My brother Gregory and I watched the white through the window. We did it together for more than five years. It was quite funny. Mom some coffee and chocolate for us. They tasted delicious. We liked very much. Mom also made vegetable soup for us because it could help keep us .

Tom，Jim，and Ted are cousins. They study in the same school. They usually go to the countryside to visit their grandparents at weekends.

People start to learn about the importance of rules when they are children. Needless to say, there are many rules that teach children right from wrong and how to keep themselves and their friends safe. For example, children learn safety rules when they walk in the hallway at school. Teachers tell them not to run because they may hurt themselves or run into another student. In the lunchroom, children should sit nicely while they eat because they are more likely to choke (哽噎) if they are jumping around. On the playground, they are told to use the equipment (设备) properly. For example, they should not go down the slide (滑梯) backward or climb up the slide when someone is going down because there can be an accident. 

High school students will also learn safety rules but at a different level than younger children. High school students may be taught, for example, safety rules in the science lab. Lab safety is very important because if one thing is done wrong, it can result in a fire or a bad accident. 

People highly praised the two men. They thought they were heroes.  The car was drifting (漂流) down a river in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. There were many people on both riverbanks (河岸). They took videos of the event and posted the videos online. 

The event happened when a car ran into a river. When the car began to drift and go down, 53-year-old Jiao Dayin took action quickly.  He tried to climb on top of the car and wanted to break a window to save the driver inside. 

 Another onlooker, Wang Yihui, joined him at once. Wang also climbed onto the car, working alongside Jiao to free the unconscious (昏迷的) driver. Their brave work paid off when they finally broke a window and pulled the driver to safety. 

The wonderful rescue was met with cheers and applause from people on the riverbanks.  Videos of the event show how Jiao and Wang saved the driver in danger.
