A Volunteer Holiday in Nepal

Unlike usual holidays, my last summer was spent volunteering in Nepal. I worked in a village school, teaching English to children aged 8-12. At first, I was nervous because I had never taught before, but the kids' smiles made me feel at home.

The school was simple—no computers or air conditioners, but the classrooms were full of energy. Every morning, I walked 40 minutes from my host family's house to the school. The path went through rice fields and small streams. Sometimes, monkeys would watch us from the trees!

In class, we played games like "Simon Says" to practice English. The children were eager to learn. They wrote letters to pen pals in my hometown, which helped them practice writing. After class, I joined their soccer games or helped with farm work. I learned to plant rice and milk goats—skills I never thought I'd need!

On weekends, the villagers took me to nearby temples. They taught me about their religion and traditions. One night, we had a bonfire and danced to traditional music. I felt like part of the community.

This holiday wasn't about sightseeing. It was about connecting with people. I returned home with a suitcase full of memories and a heart full of gratitude. I realized that happiness comes from giving, not just receiving.
