1、What do you think of getting your kids to help with housework? Experts think it's necessary. It not only keeps your home cleaner, but also teaches your kids right values (价值观) and skills that will be helpful to them in the future. How can you make your kids do housework? Here are some ideas.
Start the chore with them. One of the most common mistakes that parents make is expecting their kids to know how to do housework themselves. Picking their toys up may seem like a job without difficulty at first. However, your kids may not understand how to put them away properly. What should you do? Instead of scolding them, try asking if they need help. Help them start the work, and then let them finish it.
Everyone needs to have a sense of responsibility (责任感). One of the most important things of teaching kids to do chores is to tell them that it's everyone's job to do housework. It's pretty important to give kids proper housework. A difficult job may make your kids easily give up, while a very easy job may cause your kids to feel bored soon.
Make doing housework become a good habit. From an early age, you need to teach your kids the importance of doing housework at home. Little by little, kids will understand their responsibilities of keeping homes clean. Finally, doing housework will become a habit.

15、根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有一项为多余选项。
Our parents and teachers always tell us to "sit up straight" and "stand tall". But why do they say that? Is it just because they want us to look pretty? Or is there something more to it?
Meghan, a doctor, says slouching (低头垂肩地站或坐、走) can lead to sore necks, back problems, and even trouble with breathing. So maybe our parents and teachers are onto something.
They say that our spines (脊椎) are stronger than we think and that differences in how we stand or sit are just part of life.
So what does this mean? Should we all be sitting up straight all the time? Can we slouch for hours? No! The experts agree that we shouldn't stay in one position (姿势) for too long. If we're always sitting up straight to work on a computer or slouching to use a phone, that might cause us some trouble.
That way, we can avoid getting stuck (动不了) in a slouch. We should also make sure we take breaks and stretch muscles (伸展肌肉) from time to time. That will help us feel light in our steps.
Anyway, don't worry too much if you catch yourself slouching sometimes.
Just remember to sit up straight and stand tall now and then. Your body will thank you for it.
A. Our parents worry too much about our health.
B. The key is to keep our bodies active and change positions often.
C. A little slouching here and there probably won't break your back.
D. Our bodies are meant to move around, not to be glued to a chair all day.
E. The truth is that how we hold our bodies can be important for our health.
F. However, some experts say we shouldn't worry too much about slouching.

16、CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP)—Two NASA astronauts returned to Earth on Sunday, their capsule (太空舱) getting into the Gulf of Mexico to close out a test flight by Elon Musk's SpaceX company.
It was the first water landing by US astronauts in 45 years, with the first commercially (商业性地) built and operated spacecraft (宇宙飞船) to carry people to and from space. The return clears the way for another SpaceX flight as early as next month and possible tourist flights next year.
Test pilots Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken arrived back on Earth in their SpaceX Dragon capsule named Endeavour, less than a day after leaving the International Space Station and two months after getting into space from Florida. The capsule got into the calm waters about 40 miles off the coast of Pensacola.
"Welcome back to Earth and thanks for flying SpaceX," said Mission Control from SpaceX headquarters (总部). "It's exciting to see everybody here considering the things that have gone in the last few months since we left Earth," Hurley said after arriving back home in Houston on Sunday evening, where they were met by a small group of family and officials, including Musk. Musk had rushed to Houston from SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California, to welcome them.
The astronauts' ride back to Earth was fast and hot, at least on the outside. The spacecraft went from a speed of 17,500 mph to 350 mph, and finally to 15 mph at landing. The highest heating was 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit (华氏度).
Within a half-hour of water landing, the 16-foot capsule was pulled onto a SpaceX recovery ship where doctors and nurses were waiting. The opening of the capsule was held up for half an hour by extra checks for dangerous rocket gases outside the capsule. After medical checkups, the astronauts took a plane to Pensacola and then to Houston.

C、They checked dangerous rocket gases. D、They were carried out of the capsule immediately. -
17、Latina Stewart collects coupons (优惠券) all year long. She uses them to get extra (额外的) things, like soaps and toilet paper, and keeps them all over her house. She and her family make it a tradition to put these things in pretty bags and give them to homeless people during holidays.
"I was homeless when I was young and I had to stay in different places. I still remember sleeping in the car with my dad one night," Stewart said.
Stewart started using coupons five years ago because she needed to save money while taking care of her three kids. After getting ideas from a TV show about coupons, Stewart watched videos online and joined online groups to learn to get coupons.
The family's house quickly filled with things like toilet paper, toothbrushes, and soap. It became too much because their house was small. So, Stewart decided to hand out these things during holidays, because she remembered how it felt not to get any gifts when she was a child.
"A man said to me, ‘I've never had a gift during holidays,'" Stewart said. "His face just lit up. It brought a lot of comfort (慰藉) to me, and I decided to keep giving."
Friends and strangers also began giving Stewart donations (捐赠物) like food and clothes to hand out as well. Stewart's best friend Kearse also helped her by giving her coupons.
Kearse said she was not surprised by Stewart's kindness. "She's always been a giver, even when she didn't have much money."
Last New Year's Day was the only holiday since 2019 when Stewart didn't hand out her bags, because her family moved house at that time. But when she walked into her new house, the first thing she said was "I have so much space to keep things for the homeless."

18、"Go, Denny, go!" my teammates cheered for me. As I turned the last corner, I was in the lead. I moved my arms even harder to make my legs go faster. Finally, I crossed the finish line first.
"Nice job, Denny," Coach Setlich said. "That's good enough for our team to finish in third place." I smiled, but I was too tired to talk.
A few minutes later, Coach Setlich found me again. She said Tracy got hurt and couldn't run, so she wanted me to take Tracy's place to run the medley relay race (混合接力赛跑). She told me the plan: Amanda and Cindy would run 100 meters each, Megan would run one lap (圈), and then I would run two laps, about 400 meters.
"Couldn't I run the shorter part?" I asked. Coach Setlich said no because the other girls in the relay team weren't good at running longer distances (距离).
I followed Coach Setlich to the track (跑道). Amanda gave me a sour smile.
Later, the race started. Amanda ran fast. And then, Cindy made our lead bigger. After that, Megan made our lead six meters long. I felt very nervous as I started running. But I stayed in the lead for the first lap. I could hear others cheering for me. But something was wrong. I tried to move my arms harder, but my legs didn't listen. I was breathing hard. Some runners passed me, and I fell at the finish line.
Amanda, Cindy and Megan helped me stand up. To my surprise, they still cheered for me. I also heard Coach Setlich say, "Usually when people go down, they don't get up again. Good job, Denny."
Our relay team had finished third. Winning isn't everything. Third place is still good.
