Just like a Chinese saying goes, "Read 10,000 books and walk 10,000 miles."

For Wilson, the two most important things to take with him wh enhe travels abroad are his passport and his mobile phone. He books his plane tickets and hotel rooms through the internet, and he enters all the information into his mobile phone. "I don't even need to print my tickets out any more ,"says Wilson. "I can do everything online." 

How people travel and go on holiday has changed a lot over the past years. Airlines, hotels, travel agencies all have their own websites.P eople can plan and book their holidays in just a few clicks. Today everything is easier, faster and smarter. 

In fact, many people do not use guidebooks any more. Instead, they go to travel websites for the maps and information. These websites also let travellers write about and show photos of the sights, shops and restauran tsthey went to. This means other people can read about their experiences and decide whether they want to visit these places too. The internet has made it easier for everyone to share their experiences and thoughts with each other. 

Haimen is a modern town now. Great changes  (take) place over the past few years, including living conditions, transport, environment and people. 

Local people used to  (live) in old houses. They could only travel by bus. Now most of them have moved into new flats and there is a high-speed railway station in the  (south) part of the town. Most people are used to travelling  business by high-speed railway. Moreover, the government has turned part of the town centre into a modern library. People often go there to relax  (they) after a hard day's work. 

Another big change is the environment. In the past, people  (drop) litter everywhere. Waste from  (factory) was put into rivers. The rivers were filled with pollution. Now there are laws to limit and improve it. If people drop litter  (care) in public, they will be punished. 

People in the town are trying to be polite citizens. More people are willing to give a hand if someone is in need. Daniel, a middle school student, is a volunteer at the community centre now. He and his classmates often discuss how  (help) people in need. He thinks his life is much  (mean) now. 

Many hands make light work. People in Haimen believe that if they work together, they can surely make Haimen a better place. 

I love reading. I spend over seven hours a week reading different types of books.  I read a lot at the weekend. 

I am interested in foreign novels. I enjoy reading the books ofRobert Louis Stevenson because I find them really interesting. For example, Treasure Island tells the story of a young boy who sailed the sea to look for the hidden treasure.  His story gave me a lot of confidence. After reading the book, I am not shy as I used to be and I am willing to try new things. I also want to travel and have exciting experiences in the future. Maybe I can become a writer when I grow up. 

I get most of my books from Sunshine Library—it is just opposi temy home. My friends give me lots of advice on books.

Reading is always a wonderful time. Good books are good friends . They also open up a whole new world to me.

④But now, the old man was alone in his small boat, far out at sea. The sun rose slowly, and the water was quiet and deep blue. He held the fishing line carefully, feeling the strong pull from the great fish under the water. 

⑤"You'd better be brave, old man," he said. "Pain does not matter to a man."

⑥The fish was beautiful and full of life. It pulled the boat farther and farther. He was tired. His hands were cut, and his back hurt, but his eyes stayed bright. 

⑦He looked at the sea. It was wide and full of possibilities. Sometimes it was quiet, and sometimes hard to understand. He had been on th esea for many years. He loved it, even when it wasn't kind to him. 

⑧Once again, the fish came to the surface. It was the biggest fi shhe had ever seen—beautiful, shining, and strong. 

⑨"You are such a treasure," he said in a low voice. "God, please help me."
